Insane Potato Harvest
In today's video my family, two helpers, and I are working extremely hard to get all the potatoes out of the ground before we get a hard freeze. We also are still going to a fresh market three days a week selling our produce so it is important that we save some time throughout each day to get a load around.

I have an entirely new appreciation for the farmers. A lot of work for those potatoes! But we love our potatoes!!
hello! today is the first time I watch your videos . Your whole family are excellent workers . I respect hardworking people like you ! I am a farmer, my name is Alexander, my family has been engaged in vegetables, potatoes since 1870, I live on the border of Ukraine and Russia. Now we have a war. I grow potato varieties of German, Netherlands and Russian selection. We always have vegetables and especially potatoes harvested by hand, 2 times more expensive than a combine harvester. After harvesting the combine, no one looks at the potatoes, there is a lot of rot, bad potatoes and it costs cheap, its quality is poor. Potatoes harvested by hand are stored for a long time, they are beautiful, they cost about 400-500 dollars per 1 ton, and harvested by a combine harvester is 2 times cheaper. And what is your price ? tell me , please .
Very, very interesting video -- a great working together family...........
You handle the potatoes with such care. What a huge crop! I really enjoyed watching this video especially the part where you show how they are stored for the winter.

Wow!
Beautiful crop of potatoes. Stored spuds looks so nice. So much work to your hand harvest hand examine sort of your storage potatoes, only way to get quality. But, that's what brings customers back again for years, repeat business. We used to grow Kennebecs and Pontiacs years ago. Some Russets also. And Finnish fingerlings. Still grow the Fingerlings and Yukon Golds, both for their creamy sweet smooth buttery texture and eating quality. Do you grow any Fingerlings or Gold Yellows for the boutique higher end buyers at your Farmers Markets with a premium price? Must be difficult competing against all the large highly automated machinery potato agri businesses. E. Washington and Idaho have massive spud farms. Both chips and fresh winter spring market. Might try some of the tender kale stalks near the top for Gen Xers that are vegans and salad everything, high end price of course. Test market. Yes, cabbage is better after a mild freeze. Sweeter better flavor.
Logan I tell everybody about your channel🤓👍

Huge operation there! Do you use your own potatoes for next year's seed?
@BroyansFarm
2 жыл бұрын
We do not, we buy new seed every year.
Question please. I have a small garden and would like to try to grow potatoes. How do you plant your potatoes? How would I care for them after planting. My garden is only 15X20 in size. Thank you.
In your viedo when you were planting potatoes. What kind of spray do you use from the bugs e as ting them . I can’t raise them for bugs
Do you think the accidental corn seed helped the potatoes and that’s why there’s so many?

How long do the potatoes keep in the dark storage?
@BroyansFarm
2 жыл бұрын
We can keep them up to 5 months no problem
Do you have any idea on how much all the potato weigh?
@BroyansFarm
Жыл бұрын
Overall our whole field is around 60,000 pounds
I don't eat kale.. what does it taste like?
I would skip potatoes, they dont sell for a lot of money and they are a pain to dig and collect out of the ground. I think tomatoes, blueberry, and other are good money maker, i rather grow those.
so many small potatoes left on the ground to rot breaks my heart with so much poverty.
What happened to the potatoes left in the field Logan?

Thanks for the tips!
Yummy, the potatoes that are thrown to the side by your parents when tossing from small baskets into big crates, what is wrong with them.
@BroyansFarm
2 жыл бұрын
We had frost about a week ago and some of the potatoes that were closer to the surface got froze. If we would put them in the bin they will rot in about 2 weeks ruining all the surrounding potatoes.
Too bad the ones left in the field can't be donated to a food pantry or homeless kitchen
@BroyansFarm

We give most of the ones that have a small blemish away to friends and family. The rest we give to our neighbor with pigs.
You're throwing partially good potatoes away. Keep them for your family...or farm animals. You're being too wasteful.
Well done,great harvest.
