That has to be one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen I've read stories about the fires like this (the Carr Fire for example), but this is so close to the "front", it really gives you a true perspective of how monstrous these fires can be. The hotshots and smokejumpers that handle things like this are the most unsung heroes in the world. The next time you see a firefighter, make sure to thank him; and his brave brothers & sisters for putting their lives on the line everyday.

I have seen the Firefighters in the airport I worked at for 35 years. Easy to tell which way they were headed. To the fire - no smoke smell, from the fire - smoke smell 2 gates up. Always told them thanks when I could.

That is the effect of the aerial atmospheric spraying over decades. Those flames are not normal flames from brush burning. Coal fly ash, sprayed over the US, fall to the ground and enters the soil and root system of trees. This toxic compound converts to aluminum, in a dangerous form. Why? When it is converted into aluminum in the soil, it is in a loosely bound atomic structure, ( flammable ) versus the existing aluminum in all soils that is in a tightly bound atomic structure and not a flammable compound. This newly formed aluminum is highly flammable. That is why these ground fires look more like a blast furnace coming from the ground. That is why 5800 homes in San Rosa became ash in 90 minutes in 2017 with nothing remaining of the homes.

20 years ago I had a professor tell the class that some of the western states were not managing forests in a way to reduce fires, but instead taking a hands off approach. He said then that this would be the outcome. The scary thing is we are now doing this in the east...

Thought and prayers do nothing but allow you to think you are in control of something you are not. Instead, vote in local elections to get these guys more support. Third world countries with a GDP in the gutter have better equipment and training than your average firefighter in the US. Help them by actually doing something instead of talking to yourself.

@@sharkbellykelly7956 I think you’re right. Wood and brush has a max burn temperature under 1,800F, like 1,764F if memory serves but it may not precisely. So what does burn at the insane 2,200F temperatures our fires are burning at now? You hit it on the head; atomized heavy metals, also the primary fuel used to make explosives.

They, we, I have always called it a fire tornado, a weather event the fire creates itself. Never before this moment now have I ever heard the pansy-ass terms “firenado” or “fire whirl”. @@mischevious I’ve been screaming it since the Paradise fires when I kept hearing reports from fire fighters concerned and bewildered at the extreme temperatures & weather patterns in these fires. How can you have a house completely leveled to the ground with little ash even present from the burned contents & have a plastic trash container just feet away in perfect condition and no sign of even melting from the intense heat that consumed a house just feet away. It makes no sense whatsoever‼️

Just watching this video sends chills up my spine. Could not imagine being right there in the thick of things. Prayers for these brave fire fighters, and all those affected.

My dad was a firefighter apart of all the special response teams like USAR, Swift water, RSAR, etc. People are so blind to what these guys provide for us in sense of safety and security. Without them, there wouldn't be 50% of the people or resources we have today.

The stupid forest service in CA isn't allowed to clear all the dead wood & branches, creating a ton of fuel for these fires. No fuel to burn=no fires..People don't want to hurt ants, caterpillars, or any other wildlife...Well, then you get this!

That is a fire whirl, a type of dust devil. They are never counted with tornados.

Volunteer in the east for 30 years still miss it all the time chasing housefires and wildfires. Love to be on the line with you guys again.

Valiant & brave efforts to save some family's, no doubt, beautiful dream home. Great video coverage.

What really terrifies me about these wild fires is their unpredictability and speed. You can be in a seemingly safe location to suddenly running for your life assuming the fire has not enveloped into a crescent around your neighborhood. A friend of mine learned that the hard way up in Fort MacMurray when a third of the city was burned down. People only had minutes to get in their vehicles and leave the city on the only highway out of the city. There was virtually no warning from the Alberta emergency authorities.

That brings back memories that I wish I could forget. Back in the 70's I was working for the forestry service fighting forest fires in Montana. I spent many hours and days surrounded by very similar looking surroundings. Thank you to all firefighters everywhere for protecting the citizens of your coverage area.

I used to have fun like this, I operated a dozer cutting fireline. I've seen fire tornados throw logs hundreds of yards and even beat a 14-inch oak tree like someone playing with a feather duster. The really bad thing is all the embers that get spit out a half mile or even further and start new fires far away from the lines and crews.

Yep. Lived near that area for 11 years, I know where the road is referenced in the video description, I've hiked in those hills. Lots of manzanita up there. And, yes, it burns very hot and very fast from the oils in the bark. My dad was a smoke jumper (wildland firefighters who parachute into remote areas to fight fires that are just getting started). He's told me stories about manzanita exploding if it gets hot enough. He's even related how pine trees can do the same. But it's rare; it has to be all-consuming firestorm type conditions.

I have attended many, many moorland fires in the Northwest of England but nothing beats the sheer intensity of those wild fires. The heat must be phenomenal and the feeling if defeat having to retreat from a persons home I really can empathise with. Stay safe.

I am so glad that they managed to save the big house -For a while, it was touch and go. Over the last decade, we had similar fires here in Australia and we had many Firenados like the one on this video. We now have in place a fire management system where we backburn in cooler weather and prevent really severe fires in summer.

You may have meant the raking comment as a joke but you're right. There are huge rake-like implements that go on the front of equally huge dozers that do just that; rake up highly flamable underbrush & forest debris that these fires feed on. And yes, God bless the firefighters.

One of the most incredible things I've ever seen. The skill and sheer bravery is astonishing, some of these guys must have asbestos skin. I already had the utmost respect for firefighters but this really brings home what an unbelievable effort they make against a monster like this. I don't think any film has portrayed the true ferocity of fire as well as this.

somehow becomes more real when you see you own county chopper doing drops (They got called in to help; this isn't local. But I've looked right up at them flying over my car doing drops on a fire by the 73 freeway)

Wow, that's great video. I saw a firenado up here even larger (and far scarier) and I knew it was time to go. We had already been given "mandatory evacuation" orders and there were massive propane tanks exploding nearby but I stayed to load the car one last time before leaving a few hours later.

Its not homes. Places refuse to practice controlled burning. Look at all the dry brush. It doesn't take much for it all to get into an uncontrolled state when you let it grow like that.

Thousands of jumbo jets carrying water from hurricane zones with more than enough across the country to dump on wildfires on the West Coast. Like a super long bucket line..

Great idea I've had myself of taking water from these torrential rains and transporting to drought areas, even trying to prevent all these fires. Cause we all know stupid human behavior will not stop. My idea got me into a long debate with someone who basically tried to make me look stupid. Was happy to see your comment.

I'm in Wildomar but work directly across from La Cresta where this is. Been sucking on my inhaler for 2 days. Smoke is horrible, winds are horrible. Cal Fire is the bomb!

@@petdetail seems like the wind took all the smoke your way, stay safe! These cal fire guys are badass, I watched them in action during the holy fires that spread to lake Elsinore while I was living there. These men were chopping down trees that were on fire. Much respect to cal fire for keeping everyone safe🙏

Aerial spraying of coal fly ash produces aluminum when it reaches the ground and that is what is driving the intensity of the fires. Rest assured, it will increase yearly. Every town in the west is at risk. 2020 was the worst fire season every in CALIf. But 2021 will be 3 times as bad. 2022 more bad news ? How long before Carmel or Yosemite or Napa or Laguna Beach or Fallbrook becomes the headline focus. I guess if the US military/ CIA keep saturating the CALIF ground with highly flammable chemicals as they HAVE for 23 years, the results will be no different no matter where the inferno. White ash on top of home foundations after uncontrolled fires.

There are energies that are not perceptible to the human eyes. wind one cannot see. only see the effects. but other elements can cause chaos like micro waves, or ..... or ,,,,,,
