Willow really needs to consider either crash barriers or gravel. I've seen multiple videos of drivers going off on a slight error but once they were off they were a passenger until they either hit a jump or an embankment.
@slammedandshiny9 жыл бұрын
the comments here are ridiculous... this car is a long way from the tail happy nose heavy stock fox body. its a fully redesigned suspension. the guy who built it obviously does his homework and knows how to build a track car. taking turn 8 at willow springs at 130 should tell you a LOT about how much work has been done to this car. all in all, really well built racecar that crashed about as well as anybody could really hope for given the circumstances. as for the comment about it being staged... give me a friggin break. this is a competitive race car. he was there to place not to wreck. try stopping any car on stiff spings and racing slicks on dirt at 130 mph.

@Bassxtronic X - have you EVER gone true, door-to-door road racing? Not just open tracking, I'm talking about honest to God, full-on road racing? If not, then you don't have a true frame of reference. It's something I did for 11 years, at 17 different race tracks around the US, and even after over a decade of racing, I still made mistakes. For those who insist this accident/video was staged - it wasn't. I was at the track that day, racing in that run group, and saw it happen, as I was ~1/4 lap behind him. Steve built a damn good car, with a cage that, literally, saved his life. There's no denying he made a mistake - it happens when racing. Ever seen an F1 race? Even those drivers, at the top rung of racing, make mistakes - it happens.

Great vid. I just bought an AI Foxbody with a very similar cage. It's amazing how well the roof held up given it was literally slammed into a brick wall. Compare to that video of an S197 Mustang at Hallet doing a tail of nose flip that totally pancaked the roof, pushing the single hoop roll bar through the floor.

This track just released in iRacing. I've already unintentionally replicated this exact crash a number of times at the exact same spot. Initially I couldn't believe this jump existed/happened IRL as it seems designed to kill the driver, launching the car windshield-first into the barrier. I attributed this behavior to the supposed ice grass/sand in iRacing. But after watching this video I'm left: a) Loving the realistic feel in iRacing; b) In disbelief this exists as is IRL. There should be a proper way to slow the car down before taking this jump into a wall;

I’m thinking just as a though experiment with no real science just curious would the crash have been less damaging for lack of a better word if the car would have rolled? Knowing he has a spectacular cage that was literally designed with such scenario in mind. would the car have lost more momentum by rolling and maybe not have enough energy left to reach the wall? Or even the embankment at all? I’m glad this although terrible incident happened I’m glad it happened how it happened because the drive is still alive and safe!

Bassxtronic X is correct. What are you doing flaring out across the track the way you did exiting Turn 8? Totally wrong!! By the way, I'll cut you some slack and say welcome to the "Turn 9 Club." Thanks for the graphic showing how far the car was airborne. I did the same in a Formula Ford in 1969 (halfway way through Turn 9) and to this day I've always said the car flew for about 25 yards. Guess I wasn't far off. Luckily, the car came to rest just short of a ravine that was in the area back then. Had I gone into it the outcome might have been different than just the embarrassment I experienced from doing some agricultural racing. As it is, to this day I can't remember the car ever coming back to earth. All I can remember is sitting there in a badly damage race car inside a cloud of dark brown dust.
