I have picked up so many good detail watching this video. I was looking for an example of inoculating master's mix with Lion's Mane grain spawn, and here you are doing an amazing job. Also, I work in software and do some work our process improvement. You had many excellent examples of time saving, e.g., your 10 second sealer, the line. You have a lot to offer both in terms of mycology, as well as so-called (in the US) Lean production. Rock on!

I have plenty of spawn but have only ever used a monotub for fruiting. I recently wanted to get into using the bags, they just seemed tidier but I had so many questions, especially given that I already have spawn so I am not starting with a bag grow. its been a challenge finding detailed information about this particular stage- This is EXACTLY what I needed to know. leaving air in the bags etc, everything

About how many 10lb substrate bags do you innoculate with each bag of captured grain spawn? About how much does your bag of spawn weigh? Great information as always. I just started growing some Italian Oysters with wheat pellets. But want to switch to sawdust and sawdust loving mushrooms. Was wondering if you can store the sterilized substrate for when you plan to inoculate multiple blocks at once?

Hey I just had a bag of chestnut spawn and a grow kit of reishi come from southwest Msuhrooms! Firstly Thank you it all looks wonderful! I do have a question though, am I able to store the spawn in the fridge until my sterilizer comes in? Should be a few weeks out....

Hey Mike, what kinda air filtration, and sterilizers do you guys use most often?

Thank you for all your great videos! Do you have any thoughts or concerns about heating the substrate in plastic? Do you see it as a practical/business necessity, and compared to the good the mushrooms bring, the risk is worth it and besides, the bags are approved by the food authorities for the purpose? Is that a real concern, or must be seen more in perspective about all life risks? I appreciate your general take on things, this topic included. Thanks again! I'd hate to let my own reservations stop me, which I guess they do for all of us to some extent. I mean the purist in me says log-grown, or glass, or maybe pottery......but then it is really hard to work it as a business.

Besides grain prep he doesn't go over much of anything that has to do with how you grow those kinds.

Are these filters 5 7/8" deep? How long do these filter last? I'm trying to build a flow cabinet, but I don't want to use the 11.5" deep model. Does the depth really affect the life of the filter much?

I do mine in the bathroom. Not many porous surfaces there.

Hi. Can I do this one my own as 1 person? Will it work if I use my 3rd flush shiitake brick and I break it up into oak pellet bags? Can I do that without having to do sterilization etc like just pour boiling water onto the oak pellets, don't add any nutrition into a bag and add parts of the spent brick and close the bag and let it sit, will that be successful for me if I don't have a sterilizer and flow hood and I'm just 1 lady not a company? Thank you so much! I just want to keep my shiitake brick going because I love shiitake mushrooms they're so good and I want to have a lifetime supply every day. I like to make mushroom soup and eggs and cheese with shiitake, tomato and spinach.

Aren't the tops of your bags sticking right out into that dirty eddy current at the top of your air stream? Is that an issue?

My guess is he mix the substrate before putting it in the bags. I see many other growers adding sawdust, grains and water directly to the bags before mixing it.

can you tell us what brand of heat sealer those are please ? i have found wheat bran to be as good as soy hulls and is much easier to find & cheaper than soy hull pellets

Yes it will, that's typically why people use those smaller grains for spawn. The more grains in your substrate the more contact points there are for mycelium to grab hold and start taking over.

Don't you get contamination issues with the limited hight of your laminar flow? Seems quite edgy when you innoculate the XLS bulk bags with your grains.

generally mushroom growers do not hire those that have a basic interest in getting into growing mushrooms, every grower has a video about this & the reasons why

They have a video showing them making a ton of bags. Basically the same as everybody else. Half soybean hull, half sawdust pellets. Mix in water. Mix it all together. Put it in the bag. Sterilize. Add grain spawn.

No reason why you couldn't other than it's wasteful of your liquid culture, and colonization would take longer than it does on the more nutritious grain. By using grain spawn to inoculate the substrate, you are doing two things: *1.* You're supplementing the substrate with extra nutrients provided by the grain and, *2.* you're inoculating with 1000x more mycelium than what a squirt of LC would provide. The intermediate step of making grain spawn is going to give you a much faster turnover, and by ensuring rapid colonization of the substrate, you'll reduce contamination risk.

The real question is: Do you mist your hair in 70% alcohol? 🤔😏😬
