Innovative methods and sustainable health approaches to historical trauma - Karina Walters, PhD

In the 3rd Annual Dorothy Pearson Lecture on "Equity and Social Justice," Dr. Walters, Professor, University of Washington School of Social Work and Director, Indigenous Wellness Research Institute, speaks about the concept of historical trauma: how effects from a traumatic event experienced by a community can persist across generations. Dr. Walters presents two research projects with innovative approaches to historical trauma and health equity research.
A member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, Dr. Walters is known internationally for her research on the historical, social and cultural determinants of physical and mental health among American Indians and Alaska Natives.

    remarkable presentation giving understanding of negative effects of colonization causing soul wounding of native americans. how Choctaw nation walked the trail of tears to discover what their ancestors, the original walkers, wanted for todays generation. makes perfect sense to me. will share this valuable talk with others.
