The ronald mcdonald one really made me feel nice since my little sister had a heart problem and we had to stay in at the hotel and it was really nice whenever familys or groups volunteered to make food. My sister is dead and ronald mcdonald has a special place in my heart since i couldnt see my little siter alot since she was half the time in the hospital. I will definitely try this in the future and totally forgot that some familys and groups volunteered.

If there's a Special Olympics chapter in your city, you could volunteer to help athletes at their basketball games. There are also opportunities to help out at schools and Boys & Girls Clubs chapter teaching music too!

@@itx_Erick16 Most nonprofits you'd volunteer with will be logging your volunteer hours, so ask them for a report, or to sign a document for your school to verify your hours.

I REALLY want to get into volunteering. I’ve helped in some fundraising but I find it hard to widen my variety of jobs. The opportunities I’ve found in my area are either fundraising or something that requires peopleskills (which isn’t exactly my strong side). I’m sure those jobs would help me get out of my shell but I’m afraid I wont be helpful. It’s probably a self-esteem thing.

What are your favorite hobbies?

I live in a super small town and have to have community service hours for beta. I was wandering what some good ideas would be. I’m really into music like singing and i play the clarinet in the band, and im also pretty good at academics. Usually I just volunteer at my church but we’re only allowed to log three hours from church and we have to have ten hours in total so idk what else to do

When you think about the world and when you're watching the news, do you find yourself getting more upset / passionate about any particular topics that come up? I would start there, by doing some self-reflection on what causes most spark something in you.

Super helpful!! Thank you so much. With everything going on with the virus right now (covid-19 & additional 4 strains etc with laws & such internationally), I've been meaning to find meaning in life, and fulfillment through it altrustically. I found one in my county, and it's definitely worth tuning into. :) Just to clarify, when they mention volunteer jobs, is it as a form of volunteer work? Or is it mentioning that they pay for it as a job, for volunteering? I.e working for a non-profit organization doing volunteer work. ♡ I could ask them as well if I do reach out lol but just wanted to be clear with someone possibly more experienced in this than me 😪🤣🧡.

Hi! "Volunteer job" is just another way of saying volunteer work / volunteer opportunities - not usually paid. However, you can also do paid jobs with nonprofits if they are hiring (but then it would not be volunteering, it would be your job). It all depends on the nonprofit!

Start collecting hours confirmations letters from each of the nonprofits you're helping. There are some apps you can use to compile your hours, or you could try a spreadsheet / Google sheet to log them.

I've been having such a hard time finding community service times that match with my schedule or area. It's even worse that my school doesn't count virtual hours or certain organizations

Sorry it has been a challenge! If you look for a "volunteer center" in your city, it may have lots of volunteer opportunities to choose from!

Hey Paul, great question! If they are gathering in person, there may be simple things like creating cards or letters for people in nursing homes or in the hospital or facing isolation; if you have craft supplies there may be pet toys you can create, etc. I have another video about service ideas for younger kids too, check that out!

My question is, how do you find these opportunities? Like how do I know if a shelter needs photos of pets? Or if a charity needs written blog posts? How do I let them know I am ready to help??

Hey there! I am not sure what your school's rules are (some internships may count?) but in general in my experience they are looking for volunteer (unpaid) service with a formal nonprofit.

I'm already like halfway thru my senior year and due to my shyness and social anxiety I unfortunately haven't made much progress in completing some community hours,,I'm not sure where to start when trying to do it virtually. Got any tips that might help? 🙏

Hey there! I would start by asking what are your other hobbies and interests? Do you like to paint, read, write, do music, etc.? There are often some great opportunities to help out that match your other skills. Can you do a food drive for the Food Bank? Paint pictures for people in hospice?

Okehhh. So I just moved countries and I have 0 ideas about what community service is since we don't have that in my old school. and I was expected to have 10 hours of community service hours. I completed 7 community service hours however my class ended but none of my classmates passed their community service sheet. (Every month we change classes due to covid) The teacher never told us when the community service sheet is due and I still need 3 hours of community service. I couldn't find more community service volunteers but we got a call saying that you can do community service at home so I did, however, it said in the community service sheet that the supervisor is not allowed to be a parent so idk who will sign the community service sheet as a supervisor. Im so confused with all dis community service thinggg T_T

Hey there! Usually a leader of the charity you are helping with your community service is the one required to sign off confirming your community service hours for school.

I LOVE that you're thinking about that. My org used to hold college info sessions for teens about this very question. The colleges always said they want to hear about your PERSONAL transformations and experiences related to service. How did you change, evolve, and grow as a result of the work you're doing in the community?

my dream since childhood was to bring change and sanity to lesser people in the community ,i spend alot of energy thinking and seeking for ways to volunteer entire projects for the communities..am looking for an active team

Being that I come from less previlaged families with very poor background ,I like giving back to society like offering training skills ,business ideas , teaching them in secondary and primary schools ,,I can only do this with help from God though it's tough and might wreck your heart 💔 seeing kids cry for food ,no clothes or shoes on them ,,,now in my country Kenya you can only volunteer if you have a sponsorship for funds that can drive the programmes ,and that is where everything becomes very difficult and entire project scrambles

If you're interested in virtual volunteering and have solid internet access there are things you can do for causes all around the world online (www.pointsoflight.org/virtual-volunteering-opportunities/). If you're interested in serving locally in person, some work to understand the community I think would need to come first as an exchange student - Do you have a way of understanding some of the needs in partnership with Chinese-speaking fellow students?

Some of the ideas in the video may help you! I would also recommend you ask around what causes other students are interested in - maybe a survey? That way you can pick a project that matches the top interests of your students. :)

I actually agree there are some issues with mandates, BUT many teens are so eager to make an impact and want to help out of their own accord, so this can help them with ideas!
