Innovation at $165? Priceless. Qwertykeys QK65 v2 review!

Ғылым және технология

I'm REALLY hoping the magnetic connectors idea takes off, and the QK65v2 makes my dream one step closer to reality! Not only that, but the screwless disassembly system is pretty ingenious, so I have to give this board a "buy now" rating. It doesn't hurt that it sounds great without any foams, can be run in plateless, has an OLED screen (meh), but best of all? QK Config is (sort of) available for MacOS! Happy Holidays from Qwertykeys, I guess!

Kinda wild to see the QK65 go from almost needing foam originally to now sounding better without it. Very impressive.

exactly, and also in my opinion it sounded better plateless? Dunno if that was just me. But the stabs sounded better with the fr4.

idk i still think there is an appeal to boards that sound 'bad' without foam or isnt as bright, like the rama boards or bauer

I can definitely see the implementation of previous qk boards. I think it is great. Not a fan of the screen but everything else is great. The bottom peaking out in the front is a great touch.

wow that’s huge that they’re going to be offering this in stock, especially interesting to think of this being on offered alongside the neo65. New enthusiasts entering the market are very fortunate! That said, I’m not really into the OLEDs, but evidently someone is, haha!

Lol at this point... I might just pick up qk 65 v2 just for fun... it's crazy to see and think $400 boards feel expensive now. Like a year or two ago, there were not many options, and now, if boards are expensive, there better be a reason for it being expensive. Budget options are just keep expending. I like qk and many companies following this trend because I hope more companies can either come up with better pricing or better features/renovations to the hobby.

Did you ever get QKConfig to work with the QK75n in Windows in a Parallels VM on macOS? I added one more thing to try in comments in that video that should allow it to work. The latest Win version of QKConfig should already support the qk65v2.

I think Qk should only choose 1 between having a led strip or a screen, I don't think both combo is looking the best together on a small 65% canvas, it's too crowded for me, and the offside screen frame also kinda bugs me, the design is much more modern looking tho

It sounds very similar to my Neo65 with all foam and FR4 plate, louder than expected with all the foam. I was using Oil Kings, which sounds great, but switched to Akko Piano Pro for a little lighter and louder typing experience. I love the look on this as well with the LCD, definitely a consideration. Thank you for the review, especially on how to put the case together :)

I think they nailed it other than the screen. The bezel overhanging and the whole aesthetic of the screen give a very cheap look to me. Not a fan. I don't mind a screen, but that look just doesn't do it for me.

First of the starting price mentioned here is without taxes and nothing we here in EU should even look at. I would be amazed if this board is not under 190. Secondly QK-config is nothing i want to use if it's not VIA or QMK i don't want it. As someone that understands how much effort it takes to maintain software i don't recommend people make themself dependable on a small company.. I would much rather see them invest effort in improving the opensource projects like qmk / via add to them so your boards extra features work with it.. and make the software better for the whole world. instead of investing time ,, money and making a live long commitment for something you don't need to do..

A plateless keyboard without a solder PCB is a crime. With QK75N their excuse was a low MOQ. It isn't even close to being the truth. What MOQ are they talking about? An MOQ on a product they haven't even made a solder PCB for? Why does the Neo series have a solder PCB and the QK series don't? Because they want the QK series to be keyboard that "just works" but that doesn't apply to Owlab and Neo kits? This is a joke. Also honestly that screen feels soooooo out of place on this keyboard... Can this trend just go away lol

no one's buying solder pcb... so it won't make it to the moq, and we don't wanna lose money on something people wouldn't buy 😅

  • @impointr

@@qwertykeys2119 That wasn't an issue with previous projects and that certainly isn't an issue with the Neo series. It also never was an issue for your competitors with similarly priced and even cheaper kits. Please stop trying to find excuses to go against the community's feedback when you are acknowledging it indirectly for the next project. That's been the case with PCB flex cuts and now rotated hotswap sockets.

Good on you if you think your keyboards are perfect. I still do not believe that any keyboard - no matter the price range, designer, manufacturer, etc - is perfect.
