INNOCN 27M2V: Best Affordable Monitor for HDR Gaming?

Ғылым және технология

The INNOCN 27M2V is a 27-inch, 4k monitor with Mini LED backlighting. Competing mainly with the Cooler Master Tempest GP27U, it has 1,152 local dimming zones to help improve the picture quality in dark scenes and make highlights brighter compared to monitors that don't use local dimming. While this is one of its main features, it's designed with gaming in mind, as it has a 160Hz refresh rate, variable refresh rate (VRR) support, and HDMI 2.1 bandwidth for console gaming.

    I really hope to see more companies use a panel like this just with some more refinement/less bugs. I'd love a good Mini-LED monitor around this price as someone who does both work and gaming on it frequently but doesn't want the poor text clarity and effort to babysit my monitor with OLED burn-in potential.

    I just happen to be watching a movie on my TV in movie mode with HDR right now and the default setting for brightness is set to 50 (max) but I can adjust it and I do sometimes in the dark or when… someone… in the room has a hangover or has sensitive eyes for any reason etc. So no adjustment seems a little puritanical. Like when Bungie was so precious about a curated experience they would not let us adjust volume elements separately in Halo games until so many complained that in Halo 3 they finally let us. But they punished us so that if we turned down music we lost all voice lines as well. Or we could turn off reticle but only if we sacrificed nearly all of the hud. Devs revealed years later they could have offered full adjustment. Surely these guys could bake in one more slider? Precious curators instead of sharers?

    Correction: Offers decent blacks.. This has waaaayy to low contrast and wrong panel to offer anything close to "deep blacks" in a dark room.... Even with twice the contrast it still is just "OK" and not anywhere near to "deep blacks"... Maybe if it had like 10x the contrast ratio bit that's not the case so. Dissapointing that there is such a small difference between not using and using the local dimming. But that is just what IPS gives you.. Bad black levels compared to VA and absolutely horrible compared to OLEDs.

Not that long ago such contrast ratio would just be decent.. And now it's suddenly "deep blacks" 🙈🤣 I have a screen with almost twice the contrast ratio and that is just OK. Not good and not bad but avaerage. Anything lower than about 3-4000 contrast ratio is just not good. Screen size has a little to say since it's more noticable on a bigger screen than a small screen so.

    Hey all! I just wanted to jump in here in hopes of clarifying a few things. It’s worth mentioning that our measured contrast with local dimming is lower than expected because the local dimming doesn't handle the contrast pattern well, but otherwise in most content blacks are deep and inky. The results just aren’t necessarily indicative of that. Sorry for the confusion!

  • @Oystein87

    @Oystein87

    @@RTINGSdotcom If there are over 1100 dimming zones it should handle that easy pattern extremely good... So if it does not handle such a simple and easy pattern I would test if the actual amount of zones are correct.. Seems like there are way less if it can't handle such an easy task. Displays with ALOT less zones has handled that pattern better.. So something is really off here... Smells fishy. And no.. This monitor has nothing close to "deep and inky" blacks... Unless you have an insane amount of dinming zones and litteraly block the light from bleeding into the black parts it is physicly not possible to do with IPS LCD or even with VA LCD. Even though VA natively has atleast 3-4 times better black levels than IPS.. Something rtings also used to know before all the new people came..
