Dude, I just gotta say that you have a great eye for some truly epic shots man! And you couldn't have planned this hike any better (in my humble opinion). Baron and Cramer Lakes are a couple of the most gorgeous locations in all of the 'tooths! I hope that Bob didn't hurt his knee too badly and that he's fully healed by the way. Be looking forward to more of this awesome series Dan! Best.... -John

Thank you so much John! It was fun creating my own route or "thru-hike" and then actually getting to do it. I agree that Baron and Cramer are both pretty spectacular. Assuming you've spent a good bit of time in there, have you been to Lake Kathryn yet in the Sawtooths? There's technically not a trail to it I believe, but it looks beautiful. Thanks for the comment on Bob, he is fully healed and is doing well! Man I really appreciate your support and comments here on the channel - thank you! -Dan

Whooo hooo, episode 3!!! Your intros get better and better. The tent shot at sunset looked really cool. That shot between the mountains overlooking the lake with the sun setting was amazing and the reflection of the mountains on the lake when you were making your coffee was breathtaking!!! Drink! Your goat cup looks like it has gotten a lot of love. We have seen it in a bunch of your videos. I bet if it could talk, it would have a ton of great stories to tell. I got to ask, did you see any goats while you were there, and did you get your goat cup when you visited Goat Lake??? 😊 I really like that map you use. Is that a special type of map or just a generic trail map and they all look the same? For a paper map, it almost looks 3D. I think I need to invest in a thesaurus. I cannot think of new words to describe the beauty. That entire journey was just amazing. I could have stopped and stared at the mountains, meadows, and waterfall for hours. Especially that waterfall, that was super cool. It was all just incredible. That tall brush you went through looked a bit sketchy. Tough to see if there were any animals in there. That would not be a fun surprise. Walking through that river must have felt good. Your feet must have enjoyed it unless it was really cold. 😊 I am not sure if you could have drunk the water right out of the river without filtering it, but man oh man, it sure looked like you could!!! It was crystal clear!!! We had to pause the video a lot, especially at the meadow scene (not sure that was actually a meadow), with the trees, tall grass with the butterfly and of course the mountains and the blue sky in the backdrop. That trail was scenic beyond belief. I was surprised you were able to get a bit of shade walking under those pines. That must have felt pretty good! That trail sign looked a little beat up. It looked like you guys probably felt at the time. 😊 Kudos to you and the guys for making it 8 miles. Needing to go another 6 uphill had to be not only a physical challenge, but a mental one. Just curious, are you using an app on your phone for GPS or are you using a dedicated unit? Are ticks a concern at that time of year and at that elevation? That tall brush looked like a place they might like to hide out at. I can see how Bob could have tweaked his knee. That terrain looked rough. The last 3 miles must have been murder on his knee, BUT he had a great view!!! I was pretty surprised how well maintained those wooden bridges were. They looked pretty good, considering how remote you were and how difficult it would be to maintain them. Just curious, are the rangers allowed to take ATVs and SxS out there, or does everyone need to hike out there, including the people that maintain the trails? I know you guys were up and down elevation wise, but any idea what the ambient temperature was? It looked pretty hot when you stopped to give an update earlier, but it looked a lot cooler when you got to the snow pack. Love the reveal to Baron Lake. That looked awesome!!! Triple breathtaking!!! No sip or drink, that was a chug! That fold out chair must have felt like sitting in a La-Z-boy recliner after all that hiking!!! You looked pretty beat for sure, and understandably so!!!! Close to 10 hours of hiking, wow, you guys get the iron-man award for sure, especially Bob!!! I could not do that hike on my best day with 2 good knees!!! We cannot believe you can be surrounded by that much beauty and have no one else around. That is mind boggling!!! And to answer your question, YES! We have definitely enjoyed the video so far!!! It looked a bit nippy when you were eating dinner. We noticed that the guys were wearing long pants, jackets, and hats. I am guessing that is because night was closing in and you were at a higher altitude. Any idea of the temp? I am just curious, do not waste one second of your time if you can’t answer that! Hmmm, I cannot speak from experience, but I am not sure Mexican food would be my friend on a long hike in the wilderness. 😊 hehehehehehehe!!! Josh is a better man than I for sure!!! You are not kidding! That lake is breathtaking!!! I could just sit there and stare at it for hours on end!! I could only imagine what it would be like to actually be there. We saw the first video in the series, so we know Bob turned out to be okay, but big round of applause to Bob for gutting it out and making it to camp that night. If that was me, I would probably have been bear food by now. On the flip-side, if you need to rest and recuperate, I cannot imagine a place with a better view!!! We hope Bob has fully recovered by now!!! Crushed, as usual, on the outro!!! Can’t wait to see the next episode!!! You are definitely, “Must See TV”!!! Be well and stay safe!!!

Episode #3 yes sir!! I'm glad you enjoyed the intro for that one. If only you knew how it really was made.. 😂 I heard Josh get out of his tent and I was already awake, so I yelled as quietly as possible to him and asked, "Hey, Josh. Can you get a shot of me in my tent turning the light on?" Mind you this was around 5am or so. He's a good sport and had no problem doing it. Ahh the goat mug! Yes it has seen it's better days, but most definitely has seen some morning sunrises at a few good alpine lakes. I love that thing. I've been using it since the very beginning! I believe my mom got me that mug as a stocking stuffer for Christmas one year! We didn't see mountain goats on this trip, but there was a mule deer buck that was in our camp the morning we left Alpine Lake and headed for Sawtooth. I don't know if you noticed it in the shot, but I kind of secretly threw it in to see if anyone would pick up on it. The map is awesome. It's tear resistant and waterproof. It's just a map I picked up from our local REI! Haha no need to buy a thesaurus! If you do I feel like I'd owe you! Baron Falls were huge and much bigger in person! No animals in the tall brush! And the stream... To be honest I kind of screwed myself for the rest of the trip by not taking my boots off and by not putting my sandals on to cross. I decided to continue hiking in wet boots and got some of the worst blisters I've ever had, and we had 30+ miles to go. The water is so pure.. I do wonder sometimes if it's really worth purifying as well. You're right! We felt just like that trail sign - slightly broken and falling to pieces. So I use Gaia GPS for tracking my trips! It's a pretty handy app for my phone, and maybe someday I'll upgrade to a GPS watch or something like that. Ticks are definitely a concern especially in that lower elevation thick brush stuff. I just try to be diligent and check for them though I do forget pretty frequently. The terrain was definitely rough! He sure powered through to get up there. It was pretty impressive. You know I'm not positive on the access to those places by ATV/SideXSide. My guess is they would come upon too many downed trees and narrow passings to use any equipment like that. Sometimes going in by foot is the best way. If an imminent rescue would be needed I would think a rescue helicopter would have to come in and air lift someone out. Something like Two Bear Air out of Montana. I'm not super positive on the ambient temp. out there. I'd say 60-80 degrees is what we were hiking in that day depending on the elevation of course. Oh man Upper Baron Lake was BREATHTAKING. I was beat if you couldn't tell 😂 and wish I would have had more time to take it in. Josh and I later both agreed that we would have loved to stay there for a Zero Day. It was amazing. There was a side hike to another high alpine lake called Cirque Lake I believe that I would have loved to get in also. Maybe next time! So glad you guys are enjoying the video and the series so far! Yeah we all kind of covered up because it began to cool down. More clothing also offers better mosquito protection! I'd say the temps dropped to the low 40's at night if I had to guess. Not too shabby! Oh man.. Mexican food always seems to hit the spot for me as well. Maybe we're just a little crazy over in these parts. It definitely keep you on a healthy schedule if you know what I mean. Yeah.. I can't say enough about Baron Lakes. Maybe you'll have to hike on in there one of these days! Yes!! Somehow Bob made it to Alice Lake on the last night, but my question to you is how did he get there and did you see him at all in any of the shots in between? Aha! Now there's a story I'm excited to share. He is back to 100% now. I can't thank you enough for the continued support! Hope all is well with you guys! Cheers! -Danny

@@DannyJSchaefer Hehehehehe, the behind-the-scenes stories are always the best! Josh rocks! I bet your coffee tastes even better when you drink it out of the goat mug!!! I did not see the deer in the camp. I only watched the video 3 times. 😊 I must be going blind! I went back again to watch it. You said it was there AND I still could not see it. Yikes!!! I am going to need to check out REI when I get out there, those are some cool maps for sure. Ahh, good to know about walking in wet boots. Oh, that had to be rough!!! I am guessing there is not much you can do. Only so much padding mole skin can offer. Ahh, yes Gaia, I believe you mentioned that before. Good to know. Hopefully I can remember that this time. I can only imagine how beautiful Upper Baron Lake was. Yep, gives you a reason for a return trip!!! Oh man, now I need to watch the video again! I need to solve the Bob mystery. Okay, so he must not have walked out. Hmmmm, between this and the deer, this is going to drive me crazy!!!! I need to watch this video again!!! Glad Bob is back in action! You are very welcome!!! We are doing great!! Hope you are too!!!

We have been loving your channel. We live in Boise and just now in our 40's we are doing more hiking and backpacking. Have you seen that for, who knows for what reason, someone had a camp fire at Alpine lake and it got out of control and now there is a fire with access closed from all directions. Also in your videos I see you with a paper map. Can you share what map and where you got it?

Hey thanks so much John. You guys have some beautiful mountains down your way, and I’d love to spend some more time in the Sawtooths and White Clouds. Yeah unfortunately I did see that a fire broke out at Alpine Lake. It’s super unfortunate, and wild to think that we were just there a month ago with no issues. Thanks Len!! I'd say this terrain is pretty similar to the Enchantments to be honest. It's rocky, rooty, and it had a lot more water crossings. There isn't a climb as big as Aasgard, but there are a handful of "smaller" passes so I guess you just have to pick your poison. I've been pretty spoiled this year to get to do both! Definitely definitely make the trek down there next year you won't regret it!
