Injured Hiker Returns | Hiking to Alice Lake from Toxaway | Idaho Sawtooths Grand Thru-Hike Ep. #6

We're back with the second to the last video in our Sawtooth Grand Thru-Hike video series! This is episode #6, and we take off from Toxaway Lake and make our way down trail to Alice Lake where we're fortunate enough to snag the best campsite on the lake. We receive news that our injured hiker, Bob who we left earlier in the trip at Baron Lakes was now making his way back to us at Alice Lake. When he arrived, he told a pretty incredible story as to how he made it to our camp!

Aha I can! I believe it ended up being due to an extremely tight IT Band in his leg. Might be worth doing some research on that? There’s specific stretches you can do for it etc.. thanks for watching!!

Hey thanks John! It was pretty awesome that he was able hike down, find a couple of individuals that could supply him with a knee wrap, and then give him a ride to the trailhead. Hikers are some of the best people, and this KZread channel has shown me that. Thanks so much for watching the video!

What a gorgeous morning! Glad you finally got a good night sleep! Oh man, that waterfall looked awesome! I love seeing those! What a great shot! It looked like you had two cameras there. One looked at you and Josh crossing the falls and a second one recording both of you crossing from a different angle. That was pretty cool! First thing my Mom said is, I bet his blisters are hurting him. You seem to be walking pretty well, at least on camera 😊. Nice job toughing it out!!! Nice shot of Toxaway in the background. I can't get over how blue the water is! Oh wow, sinking that deep into the snow would have really freaked me out!!! Do you have any idea the depth of the snow pack prior to crossing it? I am asking because is it possible you could sink deeper than just your waist? Nightmare scenario you sink up to your shoulders. ☹ Great job getting out of there! It looked like there were a couple of hikers coming up behind you. I think that is the first time I saw anyone near you on the trails. Wow, that snow wave looked pretty cool. Looked like you could surf it. That had to be tough to fit through. The shot of you climbing out of the snow looked awesome. Wow, there was a lot of snow there!!! The shot overlooking the lake was amazing! I was surprised how big it was!!! The 6:40 shot was the money shot in this video. Incredibly picturesque!!! Was that Alice Lake? The views right after that were incredible. I can see another lake in the background. Josh looks tiny on the trail ahead! Ahhh, so this is the point where Bob returns!!! Glad to see him back!!! Hehehehe, poor Josh! It is pretty awesome how the 3 of you look out for one another. Ibuprofen, the breakfast of champions!! Bob will be on a box of Wheaties soon!!! Wow, hiking 20 miles on a busted wheel! I understand why he wanted to carry his pack the rest of the way. However, it was very nice of that guy Keith to offer!!! Bob was fortunate to run into the mom and daughter! Favor was definitely smiling on him. We were glad they were able to help him out and get him back to you guys. That shot of Josh fishing looked so peaceful and relaxing. What a beautiful spot!! Is this the spot you filmed your Pad Thai review? I cannot recall if you mentioned where you filmed that at. Part of me thinks you did, but my memory is failing me. 😊 Glad all 3 of you got to finish the trip together!!! Looking forward to the next episode!!!

Yes!! That campsite was a little different from the norm, but it made for a fantastic morning. Ahh the waterfall shot! That was actually one camera, and about three crossing in total to make it look like a single crossing. I dragged Josh into that one for sure, but he was a good sport! I'm glad it appeared seamless :) Aha the blisters were pretty rough to the end if I'm being honest, but it was all good! They're all healed now! You know I've never really heard of post holing or sinking past ones waist, so I don't it would really think it'd be anything to worry about. Now if you were a one legged man hopping up the mountain, then I'd be concerned.. I'd say from Toxaway to the Trailhead we saw the most people on the trail for the whole trip. There was probably more people there than it appeared if I'm being honest. There was a lot of snow on that "snow-wave".. or cornice. Not sure if you can call it a cornice, but I'd hate for it to break off on someone as they were crossing under. It seemed pretty stable at the time! I read that about a week later people were having to climb the rocks around it to get over that little area. I'm not sure why. Maybe it became unsafe to go under? Yes that shot was beautiful! That actually wasn't Alice Lake, but Twin Lakes instead! It was pretty amazing in person. Aha yes. So that is the story of how Bob returned to us. It was pretty wild that he made his way down, met someone with a bad knee who could give him a knee wrap, camped with the same people, and then those same people gave him a ride to the trailhead.. crazy. Yeah Josh's heart is always there to look out for others. It's awesome. I can picture him on the Wheaties Box. That's funny! Yeah as the sun set and Josh was fishing, it kind of solidified the entire trip. It was very peaceful and a memorable moment. Your memory serves you well my friend! This was the spot I filmed the Pad Thai review. I also filmed another that I haven't uploaded yet! Man, I really can't thank you guys enough for watching all of the videos in this series. It makes it so worth it to film these because I know I have two awesome subscribers out there who I know will watch the videos. Last video is coming soon! Thanks again, and I hope you two are well. Cheers!!

@@DannyJSchaefer Oh man, KZread should give out awards for extraordinary effort!!! Now that is what I call commitment!!! I am not surprised you crossed the falls 3 times to get that shot!!! You may only have one camera, but it looks like you have a dedicated film crew along for the ride!!! Glad to hear your blisters are all healed!!! Interesting to know about post holing. I am afraid if the snow was too deep, I would fall through and hit China! 😊 Wow, you would never guess that by your camera shots. It looked like you guys had the place pretty much to yourselves. Oh jeeze, I never thought about the cornice falling on top of you. Yikes, that would be REALLY bad!!! Wow, Twin Lakes looked beautiful. I am beginning to think there isn’t an ugly mountain lake out there!!! 😊 Glad Bob ran into those two!!! What are the odds!!! Crazy for sure!!! All 3 of you belong on a Wheaties box!!! I could fish there all day and not care if I caught anything!!! Oh, great! Can’t wait to see the other review!!! Thank you very much!!! But the pleasure is all ours!!! We are so grateful you take the time, the effort, and the expense to film your journeys!!! We cannot tell you how much we enjoy them and how much we look forward to seeing the next one!!! You are “Must see TV”!!! Can’t wait to see the last video!!!!
