Hey Plant Lover, welcome once again, how have you been. Please tell me that you have been waiting for a new video for quite some time. So here I am!! And as we start I want to share that we have been growing at a great pace and I am so thankful to everyone who did watch the videos and supported the channel. Thank you. And if you are new here, please don't forget to subscribe right away. Well now, what are we doing today? Today we will find out what should be added to the soil mix so that the Bougainvillea cuttings not just grow well but also flower within a couple of months. Let me be quite honest here, the results we will witness later on in the video are quite shocking, and I am sure it will change the way you grow your Bougainvillea cuttings or any other cutting for that matter. This video is here to bust some long-standing myths and how we will know shortly. And we also have the normal Garden soil as the base in our experiment. Nothing fancy about this soil- just fresh and unused!
Now here is the layout of the process- I will be mixing 1 part of the ingredient and 3 parts of garden soil in a transparent disposable cup- so on and so forth with other ingredients as well. Let us do it
Day 12- They have to be in the shade all this while
Day 18- Let me ask you again, what do you think would happen. Which ingredient will make the cutting flower in the shortest period of time. Pause the video and key in your responses, come on, do it, trust me, it will be fun, and let me see how many of you do get it right.
Let us see what’s going on inside the cup, how are the roots shaping up- are they visible yet or no…..look closely, nothing as far as the desert sand or the ground sand is concerned however river sand and gravel both ingredients have made sure the roots are visible
Time to check on the roots again! The Desert Sand cutting has almost given up. In the rest of the cups, roots are visible, gravel cup is looking better in terms of the overall root structure.
Day 50- This is what you have been waiting for. Let me reveal the blooming process is underway, we will see the formation of bracts. Although not technically part of the bougainvillea flower, specialized leaves called bracts surround the tiny true flowers. Bracts come in many bright colors, making bougainvillea a strikingly colorful garden plant. Three papery-looking bracts surround each group of three tiny flowers. So this is what we will look at right now.
We are at day 55 and one of the cuttings is all flowering- that’s the Gravel cup and Ground sand is close second as buds and bracts are all forming, should flower within a week or so, and the third-place goes to the cup that had River Sand as the assisting ingredient. So the myth around river sand is the best in business is out of the window.
You might ask why those results- well, it has to do with loosened soil simply put a fair amount of breathing space for the roots- given gravels assist in the formation of timely air pockets in the pot. So next time you want your Bougainvillea cuttings to flower within 2 months of propagation, you now know what to do and more importantly how to do it. Other ingredients work great as well except of course the desert sand just that they won't get you flowers so quick.

What is the best time to take a cutting in hot and humid weather ( that's now in southern part of West Bengal ) I am not familiar with the term " second quarter of the day " you mentioned in another video 😎

@@aparnaroy8814 For me day is between 6 am to 6 pm - So between 6am & 9am and 3pm & 6pm; not a good time to disturb the plants - 12noon to 3pm gets too hot hence the cuttings will lose water at a faster rate - And now we are left with just the 'second quarter' between 9 am and 12 noon, the perfect time to procure cuttings 😀🙌😊

really enjoyed your video. I've loved Bougainvillea's since I was a kid in Argentina (We called them Santa Rita). I'm 38 now and I bought one online and it came with the hard woody stem and a couple of branching leaves. Well, the USPS guy left in in my mailbox for a couple of days at 32 degrees. Needless to say, I was left with just the woody stem. I persisted. Watered it and within a couple of weeks, 3 new chutes were growing. I kept at it for another month and decided to move it to a bigger pot. (Rookie mistake). I was careful enough not to disturb the roots and it's been another month and it's still "ok". It has however seemed to have stopped growing. Not only that, but I moved it to a sunny window side and when the sun hits it, the leaves appear soft and droopy. When the sun goes away, the firm up again. Any thoughts on how to keep it growing and what's going on with the sun?

Whatever you did with your newly bought Bougainvillea sets you apart from a lot of people and your plants must be so proud to be under your care, please keep that going and help the environment as much as possible. Please allow me to clarify a few things before I share my assessment- - when you say windowsill, has the Bougainvillea been growing inside the house with only filtered sunlight - how has been the temperature in the area you live in (last 2 months and next 2 months would help) - what is the watering schedule (for instance I water my Bougainvilleas once a week and thoroughly) - how was the soil mix and are drainage holes all unblocked (simply put, excess water just runs out of the pot) Also note, plants tell you what exactly they need, so if the Bougainvillea you have doesn't want to be in the sun, so be it, however that's uncommon because they would grow great foliage but won't produce flowers. So once I have a better understanding of what conditions it has been growing, then only I can share a way forward. i have a couple of young bougies that are yet to be repotted. And there's a house construction just across the street. I'll definitely try the gravel + potting mix for this!

@5:50 I think it's river sand and dessert sand that will give us the best results due to the minerals it contains. Never expected gravel would work so great. Thank you Gaurav Sir for the amazing information

As I started the experiment I too was convinced that River sand will certainly outclass everything else, why, because that's what we have been doing and getting great results. But somehow I had this feeling also that Gravel either will fail miserably or supersede every other ingredient and then results shocked me as well. You're always welcome Samay. A big thank you for your immediate and lengthy response. Surely will explore and watch your videos. Just yesterday I had my bright pink bougainvillea cutting planted without using any rooting hormone. Still have other colours for experiment using your method. Am not so interested in growing Adenium and Orchid. Other than bougainvillea, I love roses, hydrangea and hibiscus. Peruvian Zinnia, Gomphrena and Marigold occupied my garden for now. It's refreshing to walk at the garden with beautiful flowers blooming. Liked and subscribed to your channel. Happy gardening to you.

I would give you the ratings of the experiment (the fastest way to get your newly propagated cuttings to flower is to add the below-mentioned ingredient in the soil mix- one-part ingredient and 3 parts garden soil) No. 1 (quickest) Gravel No. 2 (second- quickest) River Sand No. 3 (third-quickest) Ground Sand No. 4 (FAIL) Desert Sand So if you can get some gravel, great if no then there are 2 more options to go with 😊 If there is anything else, please feel free to share and we can have another discussion. Very informative vidio, Gaurav Sir. I have done Bougainville cuttings so many times earlier but never used gravels. Your way of explaining is very impressive. In winters or severe summers, i keep my cuttings covered with polythene to maintain humidity n warmth and it always worked. But last time , after one week removing the cover , the well grown cuttings did not survive. What may be the reason ? During their struggling phase, i drenched with humic acid to support but they collapsed.
Here in FL and I’ve been wearing KZread out looking for your kind of video. Without exception, the cuttings that did the best were the gravel plus top soil. It has to be (like you said) the looseness (is that a word?) Thanks my Friend!

I am not sure what do you mean by Exora Bougainvillea! I am not aware of what this plant is, so it would be great if you can elaborate a little more. Maybe then I can comment on the question then. Just to share information on a bougainvillea plant- you can propagate it during any month however if the temperatures fall below 18-degree Celsius that's when it becomes difficult to grow them successfully. Excellent videos, thank you for sharing all of this info. I am eager to see how this method turns out! I’ve had the cuttings soaking overnight in the wood ash and water, and the ash is settled on the bottom 20% of the water in the cups. Did you stir the water at all, during this week of soaking? Or did you change the water at all, and add new ash? 🙏🏻

Also, please don't forget to put the cuttings in cinnamon and water solution for about 2-3 hours. And then get them into the wood ash and water solution. Please note you don't need to stir (or stir, it won't make much of a difference, given within the next 5 minutes it would settle at the bottom again) the water at all during the first week when the cuttings are sitting in wood ash solution. But after a week, replace the wood ash solution with plain tap water.

I’ve no doubt your passion for the craft helps yield your amazing results. I’ve got about 30 cuttings, hoping even 10% make it. A good 2-3 months, really depends on the newly propagated plants' condition. Moreover, it won't matter if you leave the new plants without sun (though they should be outside in the open air) for an extended period. However, 3 months is the upper limit. Alternatively, once you have 6-10 pairs of leaves on the cutting (by now it would be a fully established plant), you can take it to a sunny spot (that gets 6-8 hours of sun). Also, please note, if you have raised them and now you are planning to transplant them in an area that is already sunny, be careful and avoid any damage to the roots whatsoever. Once transplanted, water every 2 days for about 2 weeks and then go with watering once every 7 days. If there is anything else, please let me know and we can have another discussion, no worries. Hi , i bought this Bougainville 2 months ago, after 15 days of buying it started shedding most of it's flowers and few leaves i water it only if the upper soil is dry then I feeded it with some homemade fertilizer ( onions, orange egg shells and pomegranate peels powder) and rice water in 2 months, I don't see any issue leaves are coming back nicely but it is growing out of shape it's shapeless. So my question is can I prune it this time I mean in march? I bought it in January from a plant shop. Can u help me with pruning Bougainville?

Hi, Tahseen Ansari!! Well, you have done a great job with all the care and attention the said Bougainvillea has been offered. Kudos!! First things first, please note that there’s a subtle difference between Pruning and Trimming! Pruning is used to remove unnecessary branches. Trimming, on the other hand, promotes healthy growth; and I am sure it’s pretty clear that you have to prune your Bougainvillea. I would not mind if the plant is growing all over and has no shape or form right now, I would let it just grow and not prune it until next year right after Spring. Also, it won’t be an issue if you do it right now, just make sure you cut off just the branches that are being bothersome and not go for the hard prune. Use a sterilized tool and then cover the wounds with cinnamon powder and water immediately and then keep up the watering schedule as before. About your suggestion, Pumice has 4X the R-value of typical sand or gravel and I can confirm it is a BETTER option. The only condition is this- use pumices only when your plants face extreme high and low temperatures in a year (e.g. here in Dubai we get highs of 50 degrees Celsius and lows of 10 degrees Celsius so a perfect option given the higher R-value). Hi, I planted a mature cutting a little over a month ago and it’s recently shown a little bud with a streak of pinkish red. seemed to be a flower but not quite sure because there is just a tiny leaf around it’s stem. Is that possible? Wanted to share a photo but I don’t think that’s possible.
Interesting and good. Do you have any tips for garlic vine flowering? None of mine is flowering, I have two in pots and two on the ground, all planted more than a year ago. This, despite all care.

So if I have to pick a reason for the said Garlic Vines, not flowering (given you got the soil mix, sunlight, and watering on point), they must be all grown from seeds and would take some extra months or years to bloom. How to transfer the bougainvillea from the cup to bigger pot

You have 2 ways to do this- 1. Don't water the cup for 4-5 days so that roots clamp the soil quite nicely and it's easy for you to pull the whole root structure out without any damages 2. You can cut open the cup from top to bottom on two sides and reveal the whole root structure In doing this all you got to make sure that roots aren't damaged at all otherwise there is a good chance that it might not survive the repotting process. And of course, once repotted, keep it in the shade for 3-4 days and water every day until then. If there is anything else, please let me know and we can have another discussion. To be honest, I have never used a store-bought rooting hormone! I have been using Cinnamon Powder and Water solution for years now and yes, it works both as a rooting hormone and fungicide, helping the new cuttings cope with the initial days and problems during propagation. Please let the cuttings sit in this solution for 3-4 hours (not more) and then put them in the soil. If there is anything else, please let me know and we can have another discussion. Not sure that I would base success or failure on one cutting in each type of medium. Try 10 cups of each, then check your odds/statistics. Also, one cutting might have been more branched, or another factor, maybe smaller stem, or stress before being put in the cups.
What is the ratio of cinnamon & water mixed prior to planting. After planting how many days before watering and how often thereafter. And when will it be transferred to its permanent pot.

- 1 Teaspoon of Cinnamon Powder in a litre of water (half a teaspoon in 500 ml of water, likewise) - Pre-soak the pot at least twice in 2 days before inserting cuttings into it - Water immediately and keep the pot in the shade and water every 2 days in the evenings for a week or so. After that water once every 3-4 days, the idea is not to let the pot go hard dry - The pot stays in the shade until you get a good number of leaves- healthy and all spread - I would suggest that you let the plant flower and once that happens, you can go for the permanent pot- just be careful that you get the whole root structure out and as soon as repotted, water immediately and keep doing that for at least coming 3-4 days -After replanting also, the plant stays in shade for 3-4 days just to give it all the precautions -Here's my latest video (covering watering schedule and everything else), you should check it out- Get massively crazy ROOT STRUCTURE (n flowers to go with) on newly propagated BOUGAINVILLEA CUTTINGS kzread.info/dash/bejne/gnxtpax_hM7AgaQ.html If at all there is anything else, you would like to discuss, please let me know. @@jocelynlope531 These are 2 separate things- Pot- Let us say this is the day before yesterday. We pre-soak the pot a couple of times and get it ready for the cuttings later Cuttings- Let us say this is today. Now you need to get the cuttings today from the parent plant. Scrape the bottom and then put it in the cinnamon and water solution for not more than 4 hours. Get them out and put them in the pre-soaked pot and water them immediately again. And then follow everything I shared in my last reply. For this experiment and more so for the gravel and river sand, all we need is a friendly construction site. They get all the materials, gravel, river sand, you can get it from there. Or, any nursery would be happy to give it to you for a premium, so whatever suits you. I am in Dubai, and no rivers, but I have a plentiful supply of all the materials used in the video. Yes, it is applicable to plants that flower almost the whole year and predominantly grown from cuttings! Also, please note that this method is the best and quickest way to make the new cuttings flower in minimum time. Hi I live In the south east of England. I have a south facing garden that it a sun trap. Why do the petals go crispy. They service in hotter climates so why not mine lol!

Hello 😊 Fair concern, no doubt 😁😉☀️ I got a few observations and of course, once I get more information, we can talk some more on this- - How old is the Bougainvillea, seems like you recently bought it, doesn't look propagated? - What about the leaves, do they also go crispy? - What variety is it? Looks like this one is without prominent thorns, right? - Have you used any fertilizers recently? - Pot or Ground? - How often you water the plant? - Is this the only plant with such problem or there are others (Bougainvilleas or other outdoor plants) - Also, have you changed the plant's location in last few days, months Please let me know and we will fix this, no problem.
