Inhaling the devil's breath in Colombia: A scopolamine nightmare
On a recent holiday to Cartagena, Cali-based Irishman Kevin McCaffrey fell victim to a scopolamine attack (for some background on this drug, see wwcorrigan.blogspot.com/2016/...)
The incident left him almost 60 million pesos (around 13,900 euros) less well off as his bank account was practically wiped clean.
Here he tells us about his ordeal, including how both his bank and the police have been anything but helpful.
Despite that, he's putting a positive spin on it. Borrowing from Trainspotting, he's choosing life! (This will make sense when you watch the interview!)

Lesson learned: Never travel with your primary phone or credit card. Only carry a throwaway phone and a debit card with a low limit on it.
I think I know the lesson here.... If a girl asks you out...something is very wrong :/

60 million pesos is over 3.5 million USD is how much this guy lost. I hope this adds in to perspective how incredible it is for him to think of all that had happened in a positive nature.

I'm not sure what conversion rate you're getting! 60 million pesos is just over 15,000 US dollars. Right now, one dollar exchanges at just under 4,000 pesos.
how did he get drugged? something slipped in his drink?

How the scopolamine - if it was that - was given to him, well I guess via his drink. Although, it is said that in its fine powder form it just needs to be breathed in.
What was the big bank that he was talking about?

the banks and cops are in on the scam/organized crime. no one will help you and the guy on the other end of the bank works with the girls to allow massive transactions to occur overriding the daily withdrawal limits that are default to the account.
This Guy was followed from Cali his Friends gave up his info and shiit happened
I am sure you could find these thieves on shop cameras when they were making transactions.
when I'm staying at hotel I leave my room key at the front desk 24/7 service. with one really IMPORTANT message to do guys. Is you can't get your room keys until your answer 5 questions at the desk or the security guard next to you. The question you are to answer tell the security guard you have been drugged with scopolomine, 1. Security guard will ask you and yor friend for ID and copy of it. as well as leaving the ID at the desk until they leave. 2. Have you meet a new friend today and happy to go to a ATM and give them money? 3. Security guard will ask you are happy to give me 1 million peso as I'm your friend too? 4. Security guard or front desk personnel with ask if they can keep your phone and your wallet? 5. last thing that they is you need to hospital because your new friend want you go now. The first I seen this, when I was checking in and was amazed how honest this guy ask the questions to the Security guard and the front desk personnel. I thought he joking around the 3. QUESTIONS. BUT WAS GIVE AWAY AND THE SECURITY GUARD , calll the police and ambulance. the women he was with walkout after been told for ID. I SHOW THIS HELPFUL INFORMATION TO HEAPS OF PEOPLE IN COLOMBIA. IT WORKS PLUS ITS YOUR ONLY HELP BECAUSE YOU ARE UNER SCOPOLOMINE "DEVIL'S BREATH

@@brendancorrigan The trick, as every leprechaun knows, is to put one's digital gold in one's pot and never let it out until one's beard gets a wee bit grey. With such hindsight, the little bumpy ups and downs don't matter. I'm retiring to Pasto, Colombia from San Antonio, Texas soon. My family is from Cahersiveen, Kerry so it has been a pleasant surprise to find your channel.

Ah yes, peaceful Pasto, where all the rough fellows from the wild west come into town to get parts for their motos, but know to behave themselves lest they wear out their welcome with the local sheriff and face the scorn of their bosses when they get back out on the trail.
