A note from Ingrid on the video:
Girls Chase Boys started out as a break up song but took on a deeper meaning as I continued writing. More than just being about my experience, its focus shifted to include the idea that, no matter who or how we love, we are all the same.
The video takes that idea one step further, and attempts to turn stereotypical gender roles on their head. Girls don't exclusively chase boys. We all know this! We all chase each other and in the end we are all chasing after the same thing: love.

That's what hooked me on this song. At the time I first heard it my son had broken my heart with really poor choices. I was so broken; cried a lot. In time he realized that he had made a huge mistake; and he got back on track! Time heals all wounds and love conquers all. All kinds of love! Parent's love for child is strongest love of all!

In 2014, when I was two months away from leaving Manhattan, I got a job at a coffee shop in midtown. I was broke and had to walk from 85th and Amsterdam to 44th and 6th. This song was on my playlist during my trek and made my departure easier. Chvrches has been one of my best friends since.

Anya Bobonya its about how other music videos use women as a way to get views. and how its really stupid and how it would completely change if it were men taking the role of the women.

This video is a piece of art, if you didn't read the title this is an "Homage to Robert Palmer's "Simply Irresistible". It represents how society is ok with girls being used as sexual icons and how a reverse act of males as sexual icons can cause an uproar and by the looks of the comments this is what happened. Goal achieved. It's time to educate people about sexuality, sex, gender, and gender roles.
@TigerMonthlyHits
9 жыл бұрын
I think the video is deeper than that though, because men are sexualized every day in the industry. Just because you put a man in a dress and put makeup on him doesn't really sexualize him. It just makes him look more feminine.

I personally think this video puts all the men and women involved into about the same light. The women backup dancers are wearing very right clothing as well as the men and even Ingrid herself is wearing a much more revealing outfit than she usually does in a music video.

I agree, Chris;Thank you for your insightful and intelligent post.
It's really ironic how upset people are getting over this video. In case you didn't read the video, this music video is a homage to Robert Palmer's music video for Simply Irresistible. This music is an exact replica of the music video for Simply Irresistible apart from the genders that are being exploited are reversed. Ingrid is showing how we, as a society, are okay with females being used as sexual icons (like they are in Palmer's music video) but as soon as males are seen as feminine or sexual icons (like they are in Michaelson's music video) there is a massive uproar. This music video is pretty genius if you ask me and my respect for Ingrid Michaelson has only just increased.

@pluckyduck11y
8 жыл бұрын
osnapitzjano I find that it proves how feminists who rant about "objectification" in music videos are hysterical and not to be taken seriously. The roles are reversed here and there is no uproar. The approval rating is over 90% positive and looking over the top comments, no one is outraged. They actually went out of their way to provoke it, and virtually nothing happened. No one cares about objectification unless it's the helpless women with no agency - the preposterous argument cock-skinning feminazis constantly inundate us with.
My mom showed me this song because of all the dancing men. She knew what it was about but I was really confused on what she meant cause I was a young child. My sister played this in the car and gave me nostalgia. Ngl I’m sorta mad my mom was making fun of this, it’s an amazing song and we all know the meaning right now. I want to hear this in the radio.
Anybody else still in love with this song? Quarantine 2020 but this makes me feel better
Hey you reading this, just in case no one told you, you are beautiful and there is nothing in this world that you cannot do. You are a gift to the world, there is no one who exist that is quite like you. I love you and believe in you. Forget the haters, they secretly wish they could be like you. I used to work in a casino, and this was one of the few songs they played over the intercom that didn't make me want to die. I could barely hear it, as with most of the music on their playlists, so I never knew what to look up. Today my telephone identified it while it played in a store, and now it's so fulfilling to play it through proper headphones and hear the texture of it all. Delightful song, lovely lyrics.
Raise ur hand listening to this song in 21 and 22

I first heard this song on the radio when I was about 9 years old in 2014-15. It was been living in my head NON STOP since then and I was convinced it was a song I heard in my dreams. I could never find it online because I thought the lyrics were "I like girls, jinks, boys, jinks girls". Last week, I was eating at a chinese restaurant with my family when I could *very* faintly hear that "ahAhahAhaAh" on the radio in the next room. I LAUNCHED out of my seat, whipped out my phone, ran in and held up my phone with the shazam app to the speaker. The sheer frustration I was in when I found out it was "girls CHASE boys" is indescribable, but it was such a surreal experience to finally find this song.
The guy at the very beginning was KILLING IT

There's an unescapable message of equality of men and women here. Women are stronger than we give them credit for and can, in fact, be the pursuer rather than the pursued. I think it breaks down the sexist stereotype and when it comes down to it, we're all just people loving people. Not men, women, transgendered, gay, straight, bi... We're people pursuing people. Maybe I'm just reading into too much but that's what I get out of this :)

That's the most wholesome back and forth I've seen on youtube. Awwww! xD
Saw this for the first time on VH1 this morning, and the Sarah Palin / Hot Librarian fetish is strong with this one.
one of my fav songs of all time, heard it the first time when it came out in 2014 and it never ages, this is what pop should be!!
FINALLY!!!! I finally found this song after searching for it for years! Heard it some years ago on tv and couldn't find the paper I wrote the info down on. Been searching "girls like boys like girls!" 🤦🏾♀️ Great song! 👏🏾
This song was ahead of it's time, like if you are listening to it in 2019
words can't describe how much I love this song and video
When I tell you I've been trying to find this song for YEARS

Wow. This is such a celebration of love, and probably her best song to date. Well played, Ms. Michaelson.
Just gonna say this. If the video makes you uncomfortable, ask yourself why. Admittedly, I was watching this for the first time and I was a little put off by the big muscular men in rather feminine clothing and makeup. But then I realized, there's nothing to be uncomfortable about. Listen to the words. "It's all the same thing." It's not about gay rights, it's about gender roles! A man in a dress and capris, whatever. A girl in baggy jeans and a hoodie, so what? Seriously consider it. Why do we apply gender to clothing and inanimate objects? And then, why does it matter?

brad franks What is this fine line? Biologically, I can understand. But clothing? Behavior? Why does it matter?

Bit early for that type of evolutionary thinking from a existential point of view I can comprehend but for a more practical world we must apply Occam's razor for the sake of conventional thinking quick albeit unreasonable applications of disposition to any social apparatuses i.e. clothing, face paint, etc. are created for the need for order.

All my life I have never known the name of the song, despite hearing it every now and then on the radio. Praise the Lord for Google listening hum to the tune.
When I first heard this, thought she was saying "cheese boys, cheese curls" and I was googling aimlessly for it. Good thing I came across it on Spotify!

I hear All the Pokemons in the World Still Breath
Reminds me of summer 2014 when it played a lot. Plus I used to work in a movie theater and as an usher, I would hear this song a lot play while cleaning the auditoriums.
I worked in a drug store for a few months when this song came out and I probably heard it 200 times and never got sick of it. Such a catchy melody. I hate break up songs, but this song is crafted so perfectly I never forgot about it.
Im a guy and I am straight but I gotta say, I am impressed with the song and the video. Ladies have it tough already. And they have so much more to offer than just their bodies. Keep it goin' ladies.
