One of Ingrid's best roles, together with Notorious and Höstsonaten. She was a shining beauty and a great actress. Above all she had the gift of inspiring love.

There's an eerie ghost of a suggestion - a gaseous feel - of Jack the Ripper running through the literature of this period, Jekyll & Hyde, Dorian Gray etc...

She and Lana Turner actually agreed to switch roles and did. Just another facet of her talent.

She had it all!! What lips, theyes, that way about her. So much talent and totall honesty. her first husband was horrible and they had little in coomo. She needed the love of an Italiano!

Maybe, in the end Ingrid remarked 'Swedes and Italians do not mix (well)'... Her greatest love was undoubtedly Robert Capa.

Interesting, while quite a few leading men needed a box when acting with Bergman, just as many seem to have a scene where they have to carry her! Was that supposed to be an ego-compensation, and for whom?? :) -edit: Oh what a credulous creature I am! I won't claim I can see through that mechanism here, but, after Fleming demonstratrd it's peanuts carrying Bergman up the stairs, Tracy didn't agree - she's in some kind of a sling and lifted by that! Cherry on the cake, it broke during one take, and they both fell off the stairs! Unhurt...and laughing. Old Hollywood at it's finest! :D
