Amd then they all enjoyed the rest of their drinks together and laughed the rest of the evening. They even helped Staff Sergeant Wilhelm back to his house so that he could see his newborn son Maxamillian. What a wholesome family film.

No one commented on how the Gestapo officer writes Brigette Horney as the person Michael Fassbender's character has to guess. I thought that was always a very nice insight into how cunning the Gestapo officer really is. If you remember, Fassbender's character when being interviewed for the mission by Mike Myers was asked about his knowledge of German cinema under the propaganda ministry of the National Socialist Party. He replied they keep a tight lid on the exportation of their films, so only true Germans will know the films and their stars. As a result, his knowledge of German cinema is limited to before the ascension of the Nazi party. When Fassbender starts prattling on about how he was in a Riefenstahl film, the Gestapo officer made a guess that Fassbender learned German from being a film aficionado who is only aware of the older generation of German movies. As a result, he was hoping the game would continue and he could see whether Fassbender was a real German based on his knowledge or lack thereof of one of the biggest contemporary actresses in Germany at the time.

@@bm.4217 That's not it... he knew that he was King Kong. In the german version of this game you don't answer the 10th question. You'll notice that opposed to all the other questions, only ONE of the infiltrators (the brit) answers the 10th question. His smile fades, because he has his proof. He immediately gives the right answer, concealing his reaction to the revelation he made as disappointment.

The brilliance of adding this game to the script is that while being entertained on a surface level, the viewer and all the characters now know that Major Hellstrom's strength is specifically in deduction. He's the last person they would have wanted to encounter on that night.

Ya know, I never put together the Suspicious Nazi's sudden annoyance before answering King Kong was due to Fassbender answering the 10th question when he wasn't supposed to (according to German rules). The way he confidently and quickly says "I must be King Kong" and slams the card down always made me feel like that quick show of annoyance was just feigned annoyance to add to the fun they were having. Now I'm conflicted on what to think!

Were they even allowed o show this film in Germany? I was in Düsseldorf pre Covid for the March festival and they had floats with hitler and other politically figures in ridiculous poses, obviously anti racism, but sans the swastika bc you can’t show that symbol in country. The fact August is sitting there with it on display is mind blowing for me.

It is quite fun though. However I see most people playing it a little bit different. When you get the answer "no" to your question, it's the next players turn to ask questions about his character until he gets a "no". This continues until someone gets his character right. When I play it with my friends we still don't end the game at that point, but simply give the winner a new character and continue the game until everyone got their character right. You can do some really funny stuff, like giving someone his own name. Sometimes it's hilarious to see them struggle to get close to themselves. Or try to give your friend the name of a porn actor. It's a great way to see how many porn actors he knows by name.

Look at the details; They all pass their cards to the right. So the guy that was tortured and isn't German wrote the "king kong". The nazi officer prick wrote "Brigitte Helm" who is a German actress, and of course his first question is when they start playing "Am I German?" To them Germany is the center of the world. The lady puts "Marco Polo". A pretty neutral person (non german but not anti-german). It's ironic because the game is about finding the other roles like when playing Marco Polo in the pool. The other fake german guy put "G.W Pabst" who is another famous Austrian person (Austro-Hungary being the Ally to Germany at the time) because he wants to blend in. Not the mention the whole train of thought of the bad guy at the first half. "I went to America in chains on a boat. Am I negro going to America?" which isn't even a famous person. He knows that too the prick. He played the game many times which is why he is teaching it to them. He just said the whole "negro going to america" bit because he is a nazi prick.

How dare a German playing a game with other supposed Germans reference another German, as if you would have said the same for an American. His reference to 'am I the story of the negro in America?' was terrific joke and a terrific setup for his final answer, and the best part of the movie's best scene. and fyi, he was the only good guy at the table
