I like being an INFP. I think we are so different and many great people have this personality type such as William Shakespeare and Kurt Cobain. It's not easy being an INFP, because we don't express our feelings and pain and we often get missunderstood. We are only 4% of the planet and that's why I don't know anyone like me.

I still don't know what to do in life, that aligns with my values. I don't care about the money but I do need it to be able to eat and have a roof over my head and to take care about my family in the future. I cannot seem to focus on anything. I start things that I never finish, it doesn't matter how much they interest me. I have a million ideas but I end up doing nothing because I am pure insecurity and just thinking about doing something (I have been considering studying nutrition for like 3 years now) it makes me anxious. How can someone deal with that?

I'm really trying to do my best to make things work out but most of the time I think I'm useless and all my gifts and habilities are useless to this world, I mean, I can't have money doing the stuff I do the best.. I love my personality type but sometimes I think It would be easier to be like an ESFJ, ISTJ... the world is made to these kind of personalities, not INFPs... It feels like shit...

You need to use that intuition you have as an INFP and take some chances. Even though it might be hard to get out of the comfortzone, you need to to do it. Otherwise you will never find anything worth taking a chance for. We do spend alot of time at home pondering over what to do and where to go, but if those considerations never is put to the test, you will simply never find out if that thing you thought about was actually the right thing to do. You need to apply for that nutrition education and try it out. You can always chance direction. The true failure in life is not failing itself. The true failure in life is not trying to fail. #IJustMadeThatQuoteMySelf #TryingToBePoetic #HashTag

Does anybody else feel, as an INFP, that you get flung in to these periods of ups and downs all the time? My biggest issue in life has always been consitency. No matter what I do, I rarely can keep a balance. It is either all in or nothing at all. This is especially true with my emotional life. I can have periods where I feel really really good about myself. I dress nicely, I am groomes, social and outgoing, but all of a sudden my world crashes. Everything turns on it's head and I get swallowed in a dark hole. I stop texting my friends and family. I isolate my self at school and make excuses for why I must leave early. I skip school because it gets so hard to motivate my self in the morning to get up and do what I normally do not struggle to do. I have learned though, that to get out of my deep dark pit of selfpittyness and shame of my self I need my friends and family or else it will only get worse. I need to forcefully make myself say what is on my mind and talk about my feelings (which I hate) or else I will never come around again. That being said, I can absolutely come around again and regain my good habits and my positive self again. But I can really really get down low as to where I feel depressed. I punched a whole in my door the other day because i bumbed my head on a shelf. I would never be agressive to other people, but I can inflict pain on my self because I genuinely despise my self when I am down. Does anyone else experience these ups and down like I do? Sincirely an INFP with a turbulent life. ;)

I also found out that I have ADHD which makes alot of sense with the things I was describing in this comment (shit that was 4 years ago). Try and do a bit of research on the term mental resilience. It is the ability the bounce back after being down and it is something everyone can learn with some practice. Acceptance of the situation is super important. Accept that you feel a bit shitty at the moment and that is okay. It is ok not to be ok. And then talk to someone you can trust about it and do something that makes you happy. He said, “make sure you let yourself out of that [daydreaming] world and make yourself comfortable with your hygiene & appearance.” He did not say “dress appropriately” or “dress according to society’s standards.” I would have, however, agreed with him if he did - at least at times when seeming groomed & put-together will have a direct affect of the outcome of a situation (e.g. a business convention where you are hoping to make connections). He didn’t say what he _did_ say in an attempt to stifle our creativity, though; he’s merely trying to warn us not to neglect our physical surroundings (including our own bodies/persons) so that we may have a better quality of life and have more opportunities arise for us. Hope this helps! - An INFP

Hahah dress appropriately! Yep, I'm either an amazing dresser or I totally don't care at all. Physical appearance doesn't matter, so I guess I try to make that point by not trying at all. But I know that this isn't good behavior. Also the victim thing is true. I have really been trying to work on that. The past is the past, and people aren't perfect, life isn't soo bad. Get over it and move on. The whole thing is that INFPs don't understand when someone is cruel to us because we would never be that way to them. So it can really hurt and cause us to feel victimized. We live in our minds, and try to figure out why all the time. We usually figure people out quickly, and when they hurt you and it's unexpected, we don't know what to do, it may take months or years to allow them to be different in your mind. Or some people I just stay away from all together. I can feel like such a victim for little behaviors that other people exhibit. So sensitive

The INFP in me balks at the statement "learn to dress appropriately". Lucky for me I live in a city that welcomes creativity, so you can still get a job if you are covered in tattoos or have pink hair, but you can't tell an INFP to dress appropriately. If eccentricity makes up part of our character, it would not be authentic or wise to pretend to be otherwise.

Wow, that is so much like my own story. I too always struggled against normality to be who I was and to do the art which was inspired, against the grain of things. I had repeated depressions, until I finally started accepting the world on its terms (as best as I could.) For a long time I found the monotony soul-killing. I think daydreaming got me through, and believing that one day I'd be doing something I loved (something that felt right instead of wrong.) I've considered going into animation because I'm good at cartooning and there is a huge demand for cartoonists here, but I would consider that (animation) a sellout of my artistry. Real art is inspired, unique and it touches the soul, wakes people up inside. If I joined an animation team I would be involved in what I perceive as simulated art (pure entertainment,) and I'm not sure to what extent I'd hate myself for selling out like that. To avoid this, I've done a lot of jobs I've hated. It's not just a matter of pride of course, but being true to my nature and the importance of real art. I suspect you're right about needing connections to get anywhere. I've reached that conclusion about getting a novel published (my second book that I've tried to publish.) Based on my experiences in the arts (including theater,) it seems to me that politics takes precedence over talent. I may just self-publish, which would allow me complete creative freedom, while I pursue a career to pay the bills. Your English is actually quite good :)

Reading this was like listening to myself explain myself..and you said it very well too! I guess there really is something to this INFP personality. It's amazing to think there are a bunch of people like me out there, more than a little like me. What you said describes me and how I live so well. It's bizarre to hear that you are so much like me when I always saw myself as unique. Everyone who knows me calls me unique. I guess we hide ourselves so well that when people come to know one of us it blows them away, because we are so deep, mysterious and complex to them. This is a really accurate description of me - I think I'm cut-and-dried example of an INFP. Messy, critic-sensitive, emotional, idealistic... But you know, dear gentleman, I am not going to change my style (I don't care what others think about what I'm wearing) and I won't base my decisions on facts. I will ask other people's opinions and listen but I won't conform. I had been doing this way to long, adapting myself to others and it was a crucial time. I will listen to my heart and will not base my actions always on the consequences. If they are "bad", I will accept it. At least I made my own decision, arising from ME. Don't tell me what to do! the INFPs will never be tamed!

I am an INFP, and I really appreciate the particular advice you gave on this video to concern more about the emotions of others. When I was younger, I rarely cared about that, and people viewed me as narcissist, or shallow. I have noticed how people are much more delighted when I have this "I am ... I feel... but I think that..." talk, and then ask "How about you?". It's quite an effort to practice genuine interest, but people feel more connected to you that way. Lovely video, Mike!

This is exactly me!! Well, with a few little exceptions. The thing is, whenever I'm depressed, I do not care about what I look like, because I think it is superficial and I don't have the nerves to think about that. This doesn't mean that I look ungroomed, it just means that I don't take care about my looks as much as I usually would, which is a lot. And I do have a great sense of fashion. I do have a tendency to value my own opinions over those of others, but since (as you mentioned) we tend to criticize ourselves a lot, I have acknowledged that I do that and I have made a conscious effort to value others opinions just as much as I do my own. What I also do is that I try to see where people are coming from and what makes them have the opinions they have, and that helps, because I empathize with them. Also, it is not hard for me at all to gather information on something before I make my judgement. I remember that it used to be hard, years ago when I was a teen. Now, I actually don't think it is acceptable to form a judgement without hearing every side of the story, or have as much information on the subject as possible. I do take criticism personally, and I am working on that. But I need to work on that some more, which is why I am writing the next sentence: While I really enjoyed this video and while I do want to grow as a person, and while it is nice to have your weaknesses pointed out to you so you can work on them, since sometimes we INFPs tend to be just too overwhelmed with all that is going on with and around us, I do feel that this video had a little more to say about our negative rather than our positive traits...or maybe we just have more negative traits to our character :). I think I proved I am a true INFP with my message :) and I am proud to be one (proving it further lol). Oh and one more thing. I am an INFP who used to have OCD. That was not very pleasing at all. I do not have it anymore, so I am back to being a little disorganised :) .

To take things personally ,you have to use the personal mien , which is a great gift of the creator, living taking in the whole personal way in which life works in wrapped in the buttery working softness of living personably , makes art come from sacred ease and makes relation ships spring into great loves , makes ease of work and flow of pain, working person-albility is a tool to the INFP, where others find it a weapon , just because the hardline world has weaponized against the free use of person-ability dosnt mean INFPS should stop being highly personal on the inside of themselves and using this gem like tool to draw out its myriad usefulness in getting the full on affects of living a soul fulfilling life!

Thanks for replying. I took the the test multiple times and in the end i was INFP every time. This is the result that most closely matches me but the more i think about it, the more i begin to conceive the idea that the results of the test are almost like fortune cookies or horoscopes, this meaning that whatever result you get you can relate to it one way or the other. Not to say the tests are meaningless but instead not accurate, they cannot tell us who we are but only the side we tilt.

First time: When I was extremely happy --->>> ENFP. Second time: When I was extremely sad and tired --->>> INFP. Third time: When I was relaxed --->>> INFP. After considering carefully, I think I have both personalities and it may depend on the weather, my mood and many other factors. In addition, maybe the reason for this is that I'm a Gemini, and so I'm "two-faceted". Sometimes it's really difficult to understand myself Everyday, I'm a completely new person with new hobbies!

I judge people on their eyes, I guess. Like, sometimes I think I can tell by the softness and depth of their eyes, as well as their body language, that they’ll be a better friend. Does not mean I won’t undergo stress, anxiety, and sacrifice my needs for a person I don’t think I’ll get along very well with. And I certainly don’t judge them on their clothes.

I think this me pretty much to a tea, but I wouldn't say I'm creative in a "conventional" sense. I do find the world confusing and am swayed quite strongly by emotion. I always want to help people and make them feel happy, though my sudden out bursts of emotion have been lead to me hurting people or saying something I later realise I didn't mean. I have a tendency to get to focused on something and forget the outside world, which cam be a blessing and a curse. And I do get far to focused on myself, while I will listen to someone's opinion, if its not the same as mine I tend to not actually take it in.

This describes me quite well. At first I thought I was an INTP, but I am now 99% I am an INFP instead. It is true that I'm quite sensitive to criticism and take it too harshly rather than in a detached, more rational way. This has contributed a lot to my social anxiety, I think. I have a knack for music and writing, though I don't really write anymore. I also don't work hard and consistently at music because having SA makes me doubt the worth of my output and my potential in the world. *sigh*
