I’m surprised James and Chelsea complained about the scene where the characters crying over Jordy’s death being a little too long. I was watching this with headphones so I can clearly hear that these characters had to endure Jordy’s screaming agony being devoured alive by spiders. They were closing their ears whilst crying themselves because there’s literally nothing that they can do to save Jordy and the scream is too much for them to take. For me it was an incredibly emotional moment.

I like how they made the comparison between the spiders and the residents of the low income apartments. Just like the residents, the spiders were minding their own business before someone bigger than them uncovered them and displaced them from their home (many residents were moving out or had moved out). A lot of people are afraid of both and considered them dangerous when really they were just trying to survive and were only attacking when they felt threatened.

In the jordy crying scene, they can hear his painful screams through the vents and its their reaction of being forced to hear their friend die. Took me like 2 minutes in to figure it out.

Once, when I was in high school, a massive wolf spider (harmless) scurried out from under a cabinet into the center of the kitchen. Being the genius that I was, I pulled a broom from beside the fridge and turned it upside down so that the stick was pointing downward (knowing that the bristles wouldn't be firm enough to kill it). I lined up my shot and dropped the broom handle precisely onto the abdomen of the spider. An explosion happened as if i splattered the bug into a thousand tiny pieces - which to my shock and horror began running in every direction. Wolf Spiders carry their young on their back... something to consider.

Thanks for rooting for bugs Chelsea! Wild bees and pollinators are even more important than honeybees. They are responsible for pollinating most of our food, not honeybees, contrary to popular belief.

Additionally, mosquitos are primarily pollinators, not bloodsuckers. Only some species suck blood and even then, only mating females for the most part. So even the 'worst' insects still make positive contributions in nature.

Great episode, as always, but I think you may have missed the plot point where people get who are bit act as a cocoon for new spiders to grow in. We see that when the dog dies and when Mathys sees Mme Zhao's body. I think that's why they kept growing; the bigger things they ate/bit, the bigger the spiders could grow. That's why the all the characters treat it like a zombie virus.

But these are not """mainstream""" movies. Most of the French movies people actually care about here a the most generic run of the mill comedies that always the same type of humor. Not many people in France even know about new french extremity sadly ! We've got great movies, but sadly that's not the most common thing here

Also I was a bit skeptical when I heard classmates talk about the fact that this movie was pretty good, the first teaser trailer I saw did not do the movie justice at all and I totally brushed over it, but the second trailer showed the better shots and editing, and I got curious. I just didn't have much faith in a creature feature made in France haha. There is also "gueules noires" that a teacher of mine said that, while not groundbreaking, was still enjoyable, with miners and stuff. Oh and just a random fun fact about Vermines the guys who did the CG spiders are the same guys who make the Minions movies if I recall correctly, McGuff aka Illumination

And yeah, I feel that this movie can be seen as a critic of our society with racism and how they treat minority and poor people who live recluded in unsanitary and old low rent housing. The cop vs people is also reccurent theme, sadly on this movie it's one of its flaw as it's not well set up. Cheers !

It's also the home of the espace Abraxas, where some scenes of Hunger Games 3 where filmed as well as Brazil. And if you want to know how far from Paris, it's the middle of the trainline called the RER A which terminate at Disneyland Paris. And Infested (or Vermines, and yes the prononciation of title and of the director's name where mostly correct, don't worry) was filmed in Noisy-le-Grand because that's where the director grew up.

re: The protagonists shouting at the neighbors to get inside. I think it's because they are being chased by a horde of spiders and they are saying get inside to avoid said horde of spiders. Different than the cops who are denying their escape.

They should give it a theater release and unleash a remote controlled fake spider onto the audience.

Random fact/thought from a non-European: I love that the sneakers in the film are TNs (or Nike Air Max Plus) because it absolutely would be. That model is HUGE over there

French fan here, Not offended by James statements, our language is freaking weird. My American wife struggles too. 😂 Chelsea nailed the pronouncing of Vermines, totally spot on. The bedbug thing was real, it did happen to a lot of people, but it also was blown out of proportion completely. France is such a small country that our tv news LOVES to blow things out of proportion and play on paranoïa for views. It happened to a lot of people in bigger cities but wasn't that huge invasion they claimed it was. Also Caleb totally could be 29. Us french age weird. I just turned 30 and you'd swear I'm barely 20.

I live in Ontario but my parents grew up in Quebec, so they had me in a French Immersion school all the way through Grade 10. I hated every minutes of it and have not retained any ability to converse in the language. I can recognize and understand some words still, but nothing else.

I screamed so many times during this movie, I’m embarrassed to admit it lol and watching the clips you added during the podcast didn’t help either 😂😂. Still a great movie. I thought yall were gonna talk more about the older neighbor who came out asking for help and they made him go back inside his apartment. I saw that as even within their own community, they tend to look at each other differently and would treat each other differently. Yeah he was bitten but it was like a classist attitude just like how the cops treat everyone in the apartment. Might be a reach lol.
