INFERNO EXPEDITION: Conquering Sand and Heat in Suguta Valley - Part 2!
Embark on the second part of our extraordinary journey through the untamed wilderness of Suguta Valley with The Mara Nomads. In this epic KZread video, we take you even deeper into the heart of northern Kenya, venturing to places more remote and challenging than ever before.
Our departure from Baragoi marks the beginning of an awe-inspiring adventure. Brace yourself as we traverse the toughest road we have ever encountered, pushing ourselves to the limit as we embark on an 18-hour drive from dawn till dusk. The treacherous, slippery descents test our driving skills, taking us from arid lowlands to even lower lands, with Suguta Valley sitting at a staggering 300 meters (1,000 ft) above sea level, offering a stark contrast to the altitude of Nairobi.
As we journey deeper into this otherworldly landscape, we are greeted by jaw-dropping vistas that leave us speechless. The black volcanic mountains and hills stretch as far as the eye can see, adorned with countless black lava rocks that add an air of mystique to the surroundings. Navigating through scorching temperatures of up to 50 degrees Celsius, we face the elements head-on, opening our car's bonnets to cool our engines in the relentless heat.
The terrain becomes even more challenging as we encounter deep, treacherous sand and traverse flat, empty landscapes reminiscent of the red Martian plains. But with resilience and determination, we conquer every obstacle in our path, inching closer to the ultimate destination - the towering sand dunes of Suguta Valley. These monumental dunes surround a black volcanic cone that rises majestically from the heart of the sandy expanse, a sight that leaves us in awe of nature's grandeur.
In our journey, we have the privilege of meeting the Turkana people, inhabitants of two fortified villages within this remote region. Their warm welcome and genuine enthusiasm to see us inspire us to embrace the spirit of exploration and cultural exchange.
Of course, no adventure comes without its fair share of challenges. We encounter vehicle breakdowns and even witness a vehicle flip over, but as Mara Nomads, we rise to the occasion. Our resourcefulness and resilience shine through as we navigate these unforeseen obstacles, overcoming adversity with a true Nomadic spirit.
Join us on this extraordinary expedition and experience the power of human determination and the wonders of nature. Witness the mesmerizing landscapes, feel the adrenaline rush of conquering the unknown, and be inspired by the camaraderie and unwavering spirit of the Mara Nomads.

How does one join
Awesome video Some observations: 1) The forester guy has bravado taking his vehicle to such places, in as much as it has a good AWD system, there's more that's required to conquer such terrain; its lack of "low range" especially in sandy conditions will mean that the engine & transmission will send too much power to the wheels resulting in wheel spin, which will get you stuck & bogged in sandy terrain very fast. It's low ground clearance and suspension setup will mean it will most likely ground out in many more situations compared to the rest of the convoy, and since the suspension doesn't have much flex, it will work much harder to keep up with the rest. Also the vehicle's components are not designed to be durable enough to handle such rough terrain, so the likelihood of messing up the vehicle is much higher. Another area of concern for safety: On the sand dunes (16:19), the Forester guy attempted to cut across the sand dune, that is a NO NO! when it comes to 4x4 driving (the only way to tackle a sand dune is straight on), the likely hood of rolling the car becomes very high & easy when you go sideways on a sand dune...Yes off-roading is fun, but it's fun when everyone observes safety first, otherwise having issues in such remote places can be life threatening. Pole to the delicar guy, glad they are ok. But otherwise, this was a lovely expedition
You guys are out of this world 🌎 👍👍 Currently working on my car.

What an insane trip, wow! I heard about that section of land between Lake Turkana and Lake Baringo but I wasn't expecting it to be that scenic : this is by far the most spectacular area I've seen so far, from any part of the world! I thought it was so remote and inaccessible by land it was only possible to there by an aircraft but you MADE it! Kenya's and Africa's Death Valley is absolutely epic! Thanks for the wonderful expedition!

Amazing
wow this is adventure on another level. Can't wait to join you on the next trip with my sisters. kudos mara nomads
When you do something you love, you don’t feel the need to be paid for it. This, however, calls for recognition from all the Kenya tourism dockets. Such trips really help in selling that industry and the country at large; and most importantly the LOCALS can benefit hugely from this. Kudos to team Nomads and Ruto & crew; you all deserve some accolade for these sacrifices. 🫶🏿
This must have been epic! Joining you guys soon. I love adventure and I can't wait 👌👌👌
wooow, this place is amazing, i wish i would one day visit
Damn Kenya is beautiful😍😍😍
I love adventure and thrill of it . The Aruba rock was the epic of the whole video it looked beautiful. I hope one day before am old to take such an expedition.
Excellent inspirational stuff...kudos guys
Seems stupid to mention, but on sand it’s best to air down the tires for traction. From my recliner, it seemed like the majority did not air down.

Indeed, the Suguta Valley Expedition was nothing short of epic and awe-inspiring! The Forester is a beast for taking on that daring adventure with unmatched determination and grit. 💪 It's remarkable how these journeys showcase the incredible capabilities of our vehicles and the adventurous spirit of our Nomads!

Thanks a million! When the Delica rolled, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work.😄 We leave no one behind.
My thoughts. I did not know suguata valley had a permanent river. At least the villagers can grow crops and of course draw water from that harsh climate. Secondly, suguta is very beautiful with those sand dunes this could be part of a desert safari just like you have in egypt and middle east Camels could be the best mode of transport transporting camping gear etc. The folk living there especially the bandits could become tour guides am sure they know some hidden gems in that valley that no one knows of.
@evans5232
Жыл бұрын
That would never be permitted by the water resources users association. The river is off-limits to pumps because of frequent water disputes. They have common intakes that are constructed along the river and can be turned off or on to support projects or ration water.

Bana! I'm also thinking of the possibilities! Sand surfing, falconry, camel-back tours.. that place has so much untapped potential.
Great Content Kudos
Aruba rock was the ultimate price! Someone should set up a camp there
12:15 this type of off roading is clearly for land cruisers only😅🙌
Fantastic
The fact that the XT made it is a true testament to its capabilities despite not really being an overlanding vehicle.
Nomads are a force to reckon with. Never leave anyone behind should be your motto.
Big ups, I do have a suggestion Lets test the mobius and see if it can handle the rough terrain

Hahaha! We'll take that recognition, as long as it comes with a lifetime supply of Toyota Land Cruisers! 😄
Great videos, that route brings back memories I walked the Sugutu Valley and up the Eastern side of Lake Turkana back in 1995, the heat was horrendous especially as we had flown out from a chilly UK to do it, we had no vehicles just camels to carry our gear and lots of water, very warm water as I recall. The track was a lot less travelled back then, hardly a track at all. I wouldn't have missed it for the world and only wish I could get out and do it by 4x4. Thanks for the memories.
@TheMaraNomads1920MN

Wow, that's some legendary adventuring! From chilly UK to scorching Suguta Valley, talk about a temperature twist! 😅 Those camels must have been the real MVPs. Its still scorching hot! 😂 Thanks for sharing your incredible memory with us! Hope that you will be back to visit these epic places but now with air-conditioned modern 4x4s with ice-cold water! We really appreciate hearing from someone who had gone there almost 30 years ago.
