Inexpensive DIY vacuum bag fittings from old bolts.
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In preparation to do some vacuum bagging on the Arete supercar project I took some time to make a few vacuum bag fittings out of old bolts. As this type of fitting is often quite expensive why not have a quick DIY tutorial of how I make these things up for cheap.

inexpensive diy using lathe machine wow impressive
I'll try to do something like this - though I don't have a lathe. I do, however, have an electric drill ....
I would've done the same thing. Machine my own. Well done!

Sometimes it's for the experience. Sometimes it's for saving money. Sometimes it's out of necessity!
great job! I need to make some a big different for the shop vac to be used, then pinch with a clamp
Thanks for offering a nice simple solution. What size bolt did you use? The rubber washers are just normal plumbing ones? I’m just working towards vacuuming some model airplane wings and had thought of making a fitting that was much more involved.

You can simply size the bolts according to the size of tube you will be using. Yes on the plumbing washers. Most hardware stores have little drawers full of rubber washers of assorted sizes. I'm finding 3D printing is also a good way to produce fittings; simple disposable ones. Hope your project goes well.
after creating vaccum, how do you attach a non return valve on it? or do you just leave it connected to the vaccum pump?

Most valves in vacuum bagging, are simply clamps on the flexible hoses and a catch can to prevent resin from getting to the vacuum pump.
If I had a lathe I could make anything, too. 😭
Inexpensive, ha ha Let me go to Harbor Freight and buy the machine, certainly is very very inexpensive.
Whats the Inexpensive part of this video? You need a $10k lathe to make a 10$ part ! Im confused

If you are counting the price of the machinery in everything . . your next car only cost $780 million dollars!
vacuum bag fittings are kind of expensive, so we're gonna save us the expense by using this inexpensive $5000 machine that everyone has
I guess the title is misleading…? Maybe…
