    Are there any wiring diagrams from manufacturer yet? I know 2 people that are having electrical issues and nobody in the southern hemisphere has any type of factory diagrams. 1 customer has been without the vehicle for nearly 2 months for what seems to be a "small gremlin".

    @L2SFBC With regard to the comment I think you've made several times about manufacturer engagement via social media and Ineos being unique or a first then; I'd have to refer you to Lotus in the early 2000s engaging positively with Elise & Exige owners. Answering production, engineering & company issues/queries openly via various forums. They also used to turn up at owner events/drives. On notable occasions creating quite a stir with prototype cars never seen before.

    @@stevegreen101 I'm cheering for the company and the Grenadier 100%, and I really hope they take those smug bustards at Toyota down a peg or 7. I do love a bit of competition from manufacturers. Ineos seem to have customers as a priority and that's amazing to see, they are just a bit slow (as to be expected) with wiring diagrams. In reference to Lotus, where are they now? Not in great position financially due to the reasons you just pointed out. I do love a Lotus though.

    Great interview with more to come. I just wish the U.S. counterpart was as forthcoming. Before delivery they had several Q&A videos, but after delivery, nothing. I think the early adopters deserve more information and be treated as partners in this grand experiment. Even if the answers aren't what we want to hear.

    After listening to the comments about the steering I doubt we are going to see any future improvment , He all but aknowledged ther is a problem and then went on to justify Ineos decision . Whilst there have been many discussions about the steering among customes it is not bad but it could be a lot better . I understand the reasoning behind wanting to priortise off road capability I think they went just a bit to far . I was not comfortable with the way my Grenadier drove on sealed roads , it was not bad and it was not dangerous but not inspiring ,however I own a 1999 disco 2 td5 ,over 20 years old has a similar steering set up and with the and cenre diff lock operating is similar in its off road capabilities, but drives much better on the road and was my prefered drive over the Grenadier ( I live in a fairly remote area and a drive to get fuel or groceries ect is an 80km round trip on sealed roads ) until I had the Grenadier wheel aligned which brought both sides to the same setting and increased the castor to the max spec , a totaly different vehicle , now my go to drive , almost as good as the disco 2 .So I ask Ineos to listen to their customers and look at the steering as there is room for improvment

    I agree; there are plenty of vehicles out there with rack & pinion, live axles etc. Nobody complained about Land Rover steering in Discovery 2, classic RR etc, nor Nissan GU Patrol etc. However, one might argue that customer expectations are higher in 2024 than they were in 1994. Car companies typically justify whatever they have at the time; it's only with a revision that they ever admit there was a problem ("it was actually fine but you guys complained so we made it EVEN BETTER") so wait for the facelift :-)

    Transparency is a great thing from any company. I think everyone knows that this vehicle is a great 4x4 for a first build. There are some manufacturers that have several decades more experience that still fall way short of the Grenadier. They will learn, and get better (hopefully). Would I personally buy one right now? No. I dont want to carry 2-3 jerry cans of diesel on my roof, on a rear bar or inside the vehicle. Double the size of the tank, and they will sell more in Australia and Africa where these vehicles are actually engineered and made for.

  • @L2SFBC

    There is now a 68L tank from Brown Davis for the Grenadier. I kind of feel INEOS is wondering why, but if you only look at the plethora of long range ranks for 4x4s in the Australian market, and that there are multiple options for the more popular cars, it was always going to be a question for people. Europeans just don't get the need for it, same way the pro-EV people don't understand why anyone needs to drive more than 200km before a recharge.

    I’m surprised Ineos was surprised by the engagement. I’m still amazed at how little onboard fuel is able to be optioned. I have 180 litres as standard on a Prado 120. Surely long range fuel options should have been better. Is that a European focus on design?

  • @L2SFBC

    @L2SFBC

    3 ай бұрын

    I think it is, yes. I have limited European offroad experience (UK, Italy) but from what I've seen their ranges are short and their trailers small, so why on earth would you ever need more than 500km of range? UK greenlanes are a few miles long and end at a pub. You could drive the entire length of the UK in a long day. Contrast that with Australia with much longer distances, and bigger trailers. I even need my long-range tank in the High Country if I'm doing a multi-day trip, let alone a desert crossing. The popularity of long-range tanks says something, as does the fact Toyota fit extra tanks to their 4x4s. However, INEOS design for the world not just Australia. It is a question I plan to ask when I get a chance.

    @@L2SFBC Not only short, but most of the time is illegal. Most unpaved tracks where I live are commonly owned by LOTS of land owners. They had to maintain the track by themselves and refrain from using it with bad weather just to not destroy it. Now, add a couple of cars that will rip it appart just to have fun... BUT I still think it is an oversight to not have an option of a bigger fuel tank because not all the world is North America or Europe.

    Yes, I'm almost shocked that someone like Justin Hocevar, who has put himself front and centre so much, has failed to understand who exactly the early adopters are. If he's off the ball on this one, then it just confirms how much the HQ bods responsible for CRM are missing the mark. And maybe explains why the very hard felt sentiment that Ineos are shirking on their commitment to provide access to 3D tech manuals is falling on deaf ears.

    @@L2SFBC agree but Sir Jim specifically mentioned Australia and South Africa as key markets, you’d think they asked why Toyota have 130-180 litres from factory in our markets as part of design/benchmarks. All the options, long range takes should be at the top of the list. Sticking fuel jerrycans on the roof is crazy.

    I've consistently seen this lack of understanding from Euro carmakers, INEOS is not unique. The Japanese, Toyota especially, seem to get it with what they can "landcrewness". I did a preview LC300 event months before official reveal under NDA, only six of us, and they talked extensively about long outback drives, corrugations, reliability etc etc. I came away really feeling those guys get it. That's why the LC300 has a lockable c/d, live rear axle, many other little features I went over in my LC300 video. I don't see that level of understanding anywhere else not even INEOS. Watch my LC300 engineer videos for more on that. I think Euro people consider unladen range; but add in a roofrack full of gear, towing a camper or van, and suddenly you're not cruising at an easy 9L/100km, it's more like 15 or 16 and then your 90L tank (usuable 75?) will disappear very, very quickly. We all know this, that's why we buy long range tanks, I've had them in all my 4x4s bar the first two.

    There are quite a few people offroading Defenders. Very few Discovery, and in fact Discovery is something of a sales failure. In my view it moved away from its niche and failed to find a new niche to land on. It was a great towcar/offroader/family wagon/touring wagon, class-leading in all four criteria and unsurpassed as a combination, but the D5 threw all that away and with it, the buyers. And it had nowhere else to go, it couldn't compete with BMWs on their turf for example.
