Yes he was wrong, and yes he needs to do that dance, but damn Metatron with his manipulations gonna get it, I'm so furious at him! It'll take a miracle for Crowley to not attack him in some way, if he learns about all that shit he said and thus did to Aziraphale.

With Aziraphale, what most people done realise is that if you hate on him you’re just misunderstanding his character. He loves Crowley but is still loyal to the job he’s had for almost 6,000 years- it wasn’t a hard choice for him seeing as he’s been offered to bring Crowley too… as an angel but he IS an angel in Aziraphale’s eyes anyway. Crowley making his speech just confused and scared him, gave him a different altogether scary choice to think about, one that’s only really been a realistic option for not even 4 years. It threw his whole plan off, but in the end he’s still loyal to his job, and is doing what he genuinely thought was best. He thought that if he could make a difference in heaven Crowley would eventually join him, or he could make it better for everyone. Aziraphale is just misunderstood.

I know, it genuinely upsets me that people are trying to believe the Metatron slipped Aziraphale something in the coffee. The way he acted is so like him it's not even funny. When the scene happened you can tell by the way he moved his hands that he's uncertain as to how he should act when Crowley kissed him and that's what culminates into the "I forgive you." He even tries to give himself some time to try and change his mind, due to the evidence of Gabriel and Beelzebub who were able to run away together. But when he's told Muriel will take over the shop there is no reason to stay, obviously Crowley is there but that means he has to completely abandon what he's worked for his entire life. He wants to fix the corporate system of heaven and makes things less linear but that is not going to happen how he wants it to. I saw someone make a very great analogy, Aziraphale is like an abused child who has been pushed aside so many times by his authority figures that the moment they give him affection and praise he has no other choice but to believe that they finally care about him when they don't. Edit: Just something to add, I've seen some people on TikTok arguing that Aziraphale doesn't even like coffee, but I've just started reading the book and it says that he enjoys tea, cocoa, and coffee. Not to say that everything in the book is canon to the show but it's just something to note about his character.

aziraphale loves crowley so damn much, but his version of love is warped by heaven's influence. To him, working with crowley by his side and repairing Heaven IS true love - it's the only way he can manage to show love at this moment. He's been conditioned into thinking only angels can be good, and of course he thinks Crowley is a good person, so to balance out those two contrasting ideas in his mind, he comes to the conclusion that of COURSE Crowley would want to be an angel again, because aren't angels the good ones? It's a tragic love story

Azi is actually doing this whole thing for Crowley. Aziraphale doesn't really want to make changes or even suggest any. That's completely inappropriate to the angel, not his place etc. But when they met, Crowley wanted to make changes to the grand plan. And now that Azi got the chance, he's going to take it. The poor guy wouldn't even know what exactly needs change. But he's going to do it for his friend's (read: lover's)sake.

Stop that. Seriously. It's not even funny. It reactions like this that are toxic and are making the fandom worse for it. Of course, we'll get a happy ending. Haven't you ever read a well-written, 3 act story? A 2nd act needs it's lowest point to earn the 3rd act's highs. A good romance needs stakes and heartbreak, and even better if their parted for believable personal reasons and are not strictly circumstancial or just being over misunderstanding. The moral of Good Omens has always been, "We must reach out to one another." The 3rd season will drive that home. Stop being part of the worst of the fandom and leave Neil alone. It's not even finished, and we won't get that 3rd season if we don't support it and everyone involved, especially Neil.

Oh man you couldn't put the whole kiss in here, but Michael's acting during that was so brilliant. Starts with eyes open, arms stiff, scared of what's happening and how he feels. Then eyes closed, tentatively embracing Crowley, then back to panic mode. Someone else said it already but poor Aziraphale can't get over the baseline idea that Crowley, as a demon, is simply off limits as a significant other. Which is why when Crowley has asked him repeatedly to go away together Aziraphale can't. But if he was an angel too, that would fix everything. You can see the yearning. But also the dichotomy of the angel showing restraint while the demon has made it very clear what he wants and ultimately resorts to extreme measures to try to get Aziraphale to realize 1) they both want the same thing, and 2) it's totally okay for them to get to be happy regardless of their jobs... this whole scene just hurts. You can feel Crowley's desperation to not lose Aziraphale to heaven as he knows it's abusive, even said both heaven and hell are toxic, and i think that is why he kissed him. He's been content to play the long game for so many thousands of years, but now there are real stakes and he was desperate to stop what was coming. How long do we have to wait for season 3? Cuz i need it right now. That whole credits scene with Crowley driving and Aziraphale ascending in the elevator was gut-wrenching.

as much as I'm depressed because of the ending as the next person is, I will not tolerate Zira slander- the character conflict was BEAUTIFULLY done! It makes complete sense for his character to refuse Crowley and go to Heaven. This doesn't mean he rejected Crowley or even meant to hurt him. He loves Earth just as much as Crowley does - that is the reason for him leaving. He wants Earth and Crowley to be safe and happy. He wants to make Heaven BETTER (arguably for Crowley, because he remembers how happy he was as an angel). He believes he's doing the right thing. Although misguided, he' s actually trying to act selfless, putting aside his personal feelings to work towards a good cause. I think people calling him an idiot is completely uncalled for. He's been abused by Heaven for ages and now its extending him, as he sees it, a helping hand. Metatron has treated Zira with more kindness than any Heaven official. He given a reason to think that there was a way to change things. At least this is my take away from this. Although the coffee theory is still completely on the table for me xD

The Metatron isn't kind he's manipulative, he pushed Aziraphale aside so many times and finally gave him affection in order to manipulate him into supporting the vote for the apocalypse. You can tell by the fact that Aziraphale tried to change his mind about his choice but the Metatron didn't even give him a chance to think about Crowley, that was the whole point of why he was there in the first place. It's all manipulation.

Yes, it was definitely something Aziraphael would do! Especially after Metatron’s „we are the nice, good guys!” play. I think that Crowley is better at seeing how complicated things can be, but it also made him cynical. Aziraphael is still hopeful and willing to make the world a better place. From Aziraphael perspective Crowley had left him as much as he had left Crowley. And I am sure, that he has wanted to go back to Crowley, but „second coming” part made him go.

For the final scene, when Aziraphale interrupted Crowley, that shit upset me so bad. I understand it, having something so exciting that you can't even hold it in, but knowing that things could have been a little different if Crowley actually got to go first... On top of that, they spent the whole season talking over each other and not listening to each other, and look where that got them. Also, I would love to commend the acting for that scene. They played their roles well, and told the story well. I could feel the anxiety of Crowley speaking his truth for the first time, and the fear trying to make him stop, and his second guessing himself. Especially the "And I would like to spend---" followed by that frustrated growl as he struggles to get the words out. David played it out so well.

I think the grave-digging "mini-sode" sets up A's reaction to Crowley's proposal at the end. Aziraphale isn't able (yet) to empathize with human suffering as much as Crowley or connect with his own or others' emotions, because he's focused much more on how his and others' actions measure up to a rigid code. He's loving, but he can be judgemental and a little cold because he never pays attention to his own wants/desires--he's been taught they don't matter to anyone--so it is hard for him to connect emotionally in terms of communicating about deep, intense emotions. He's never cruel, but the fact that he blames this poor young, starving woman for doing something distasteful to survive, ignoring her pain and oppression, is a little disturbing--but it makes sense in thinking how he's been treated and taught to treat others.

Yes! Aziraphale biggest problem is that he can't stop his holier-than-thou mindset, especially in front of this demon. He wants attention for goodly acts and is still using Heaven's twisted sense of morality. He and Crowley remind me of people who struggled with high demand religions. Crowley got out and, rightfully, resents it. Aziraphale slipped back in after being told what he wanted to hear and that it would be better this time. To Aziraphale, rejecting angel-hood might even look like proof that Crowley really is a sinful serpent that is turning away from true goodness. But Crowley actions have demonstrated that for all his demonic snarling and naughty behavior, he's a genuinely good person.

@bigjedimullet I am pansexual. Not very kind of you to assume that I don't understand this either and I am not on your same side with this. I was born in the 60s and was a teenager in the 80s. I was also aware of what went on in the 90s. That is why I said what I said, Neil Gaiman has confirmed it as much as he's going to ever confirm it. They are not male humans but an angel and a demon. Sexuality is more fluid with them because in their world there is just pure equality there is no gay or bi or pan sexual or anything like that anybody can be in love with anybody because technically there's no gender either. Neil has actually stated this is indeed above story. He's openly stated that. However it is above story between the angel and a demon with no defined gender by human standards. That is why in season two you see who appears to be a female playing Michael because they are genderless there's pure equality there. This is just one example of what I'm talking about but he's been asked this on Twitter and he's responded and he's been interviewed in the past before and he's always stuck to saying is that exactly what he says in this article. After all isn't that what all of us would love to see in this world? A world where gender and sexual orientation don't matter as much as they seem to now and as they did back in the nineties and eighties and 70s and 60s? You think you had it tough going to the 90s as a gay person? You need to thank myself and my generation because Saints to us you had it easier. I went to the 80s AIDS crisis. I was alive when Stonewall happened. I would have given all that stuff for the hardship you went through the night he's in the blink of an eye. It's because of what we went through in the eighties and Beyond that you didn't have it any harder in the nineties then what you did have to go through. www.digitalspy.com/tv/a30514224/good-omens-neil-gaiman-gay-lgbtq-asexual-interview/

Yeah, I absolutely loved that. It's a striking moment because it's usually not in his nature to be spiteful. And yet it makes perfect sense when you figure he likely perceives Crowley's rejection of Heaven as a rejection of HIM. He's already shut down and resigned himself to that, and then Crowley goes and kisses him unprompted, making him feel vulnerable and confused, and he hates that. I think his, "I forgive you," is essentially him saying, "Eff off," in the most hurtful way he can think of. And Michael Sheen conveys all of that so beautifully in just the span of a few seconds.

@@supremeoverlorde2109 Totally! While I'd say Aziraphale definitely has a petty streak, I agree he's usually not hurtful with his spite (though that one French revolutionary/executioner might disagree lol). And the kiss as a follow-up to that rejection has to hurt him double because for him, it might also seem like a last-ditch attempt from Crowley not to say "Please stay with ME - I love you and I want us to stay together" but to try and keep him from taking the deal as in "You said you need me, you like me, and if you love me enough, you'll reject Heaven right now instead of going". There's just so many misunderstandings going on between the two of them and they're so naturally ingrained into their respective personalities/world views. That minute or so Aziraphale stands alone in the bookshop and touches his lips, and then moves to wipe them? Heartbreaking. Deserves all the acting awards. You can see the at least twelve different conflicts running through his mind. The way he immediately turns to wipe a tear when he notices the Metatron entering? Shattering. Okay, I totally think Aziraphale still thinks Crowley just wants to be friends. Crowley never said how he felt just that they should run off and be together. And Aziraphale would never assume that Crowley really meant he loves him. And Crowley just saying we could’ve been us, can mean friends forever like always. And then the kiss, Aziraphale just thinks that was Crowley just tempting him to stay and playing with his feelings. Which is why he forgave him. Remember, Nina and Maggie’s relationship mirrors theirs and Nina said she wasn’t Maggie’s type and Maggie realized Nina had no clue about her feelings and she had just assumed Nina knew. So, Aziraphale assumes Crowley knows about his feelings but could never return them. It’s the miss communication that fucks them.

Crowley and Aziraphale are both so complicated in different ways, and I think that while the ending does initially feel a bit jarring and out of nowhere, it completely makes sense for where they are in their relationship to both each other and themselves. And imo, the season does a great job of setting that up through the central mystery, as well as through the flashbacks of their history.

I don't want him holed up in his apartment feeling shitty, I want him to keep following the path towards emotional intelligence and I also want to make it everybody's problem

I think you're really on to something. Honestly, if Crowley is going to pick up some emotional intelligence, he probably NEEDS a support system. I think a bit part of Crowley's problem, and what makes season 2's ending so tragic from his end of things, is that he literally has no one else. Aziraphale has always kind of been waiting for an opportunity to be accepted back into Heaven I think, but Crowley is different. He's so fiercely protective of Aziraphale and the fragile existence they've carved out for themselves throughout the season because that's home to him. That's his everything. I feel like a big aspect of further growth and development for him NEEDS to be the realization that there's more worth living for. Because having your entire existence wrapped up in a single individual is heartbreaking and terrifying. I would know, for sure.

Aziraphale is truly afraid to admit his love. Even when Gabriel/Jim told him that in a friendly way, he was unable to answer. And he panics when asked if he's ever felt like being with someone just makes sense, plus in the first season he was afraid to move forward with his relationship. Despite being very emotionally open unlike Crowley, he's very unsure on that aspect :'''

10:59 Deep down in my heart, I know he was trying to say I love you but ultimately said I forgive you to show he does have compassion for him but can't really say it (and also from season 1, there was a whole thing in the pavilion argument about demons being unforgivable). I've always felt that it was his roundabout way of showing he truly cares, but using this roundabout was not the way to go.😭

Season 3 about the rapture. The angels split Aziraphel & Crowley up to manipulate Aziraphel into giving the swing vote for the rapture. They are going to use Crowley as leverage against Azirephel to force him to vote for it. Crowley is going to end up trying to pull his angel's halo out of heavens fire. My reaction for season 2, Azirephel NOOO!! WHY?? 😭💔 Crowley😭💔

no he's not. He is Aziraphale, an angel who believes in good. He knows about second coming and wants to prevent it, he wants to make the heaven and the world a better place, and he wanted to take crowley with him. I agree with other commentators that he is like an abused child with a cultist mindset. He surely loves Crowley, and he surely understands that he is his only friend (in the first season it was aziraphale who gave hearteyes all the time, and that was him, who said "we are not friends" multiple times, and that showed that he really cares, and it was obvious he tries to make himself to believe those words). From his point of view, that's Crowley who betrayed him. And maybe he even decided that Crowley attempted to tempt him. Everything he's done is completely in his character.

@@deedee4955 That's just ignorant, because heaven and hell tried to kill them last time for trying to make things better (you know, stop the Armageddon, bring up antichrist in a proper manner, etc.). AND they SAW Michael and Beez, they know it's possible to live off the grid together. But Aziraphel is too proud and ignorat. Crowley knows better, and with their shared experience he thought... no, he was sure his best friend knows better now too. Do you really want to tell me that Aziraphel has any rights to feel betrayed, OR more betrayed than Crowley? Come on. He behaved like a character from soap opera with an episode of amnesia :/

10:15-25: Remember how in s1e1 the narrator/God explains how much the two satanic nuns misunderstand the meanings behind each other's winks when they're switching the antichrist baby? I think the same level of misunderstanding is happening here. The two of them are so completely unused to discussing their feelings plainly (because they've had to hide them for millennia) that they cannot help but use coded language and they misunderstand each other's meaning. I think that when Crowley says, "You can't leave this bookshop", he MEANS, "You can't leave me. You don't want to leave me; please don't leave me! I can make you happy, and you won't be happy anywhere else." But Aziraphale HEARS "We've been happy here, and we've had fun here, and I don't want it to end." He doesn't realize Crowley's speaking of the shop as a symbol of their love. Meanwhile, when Aziraphale says, "Nothing lasts forever", he MEANS, "Yes, it's been fun here and we've been happy here, but now it's time to move on. This bookshop doesn't matter that much because I will love you no matter where we are. As long as we're together, we are home." But what Crowley HEARS is, "It's been fun having you as my closest confidant and companion and I care, but this closeness can't last forever."
