The last *real* Pocono IndyCar 500 under USAC Sanction...

When USAC was still somewhat relevant but losing Tons of Money. While CART was about to explode the next year.

I’m glad they don’t cut to gymnastics twice during the race coverage today. That’s ridiculous.

the full race? 500 miles? Even with commercials cut out it wouldn't last less than 40 minutes

While I assume ABC didn't show it flag to flag at the time, it still seems like an odd length to me. I'd of guessed if it was slotted into an hour long timeslot in 1980, it would've ran a good 48 minutes or so, give or take a bit.

That's how much ads USAC needed to make money out of that race. 3 hours 20 minutes of race, 40 minutes of tv. (Okay, that was a joke)

That’s a “full race”? I never understood why Indycars became popular at Pocono?
