Indy mom says she was nearly attacked and her 6-year-old's braids cut after she didn't tip stylist

The mother said the braiding session lasted nearly 10 hours, when it typically takes only three or four hours. And when AJ Haley says she told the braider she wasn't satisfied with the service and wasn't tipping, the woman became aggressive, even allegedly blocking her from leaving the shop.

Often places will charge you a deposit, cancellation fees, etc bc of this & other issues (as they need a card on file before making an appt, but I could see them not doing that in some salons.) I worked in the service industry for years and I agree to a point. If the service wasn't above standard service, then minimal tip. Even if it's a couple of bucks. When I go out to eat with my husband he hands me the receipts and I tip $15. If we're sitting for a long time having more than a drink or two, I'll tip more. When I get my dog groomed, I tip $20, and around the same when I take my boys to the barber. Unless their hair looks like crap, $5. If I get crap service, $5-$10. In this case, I don't think I'd have tipped either. The lady says 3-4 hours and then screws up my entire day, no freaking tip! And threaten to harm my child? A call to law enforcement.

  • @finestdime

Let me preface by saying, I always tip unless something egregious happens. But I'm really starting to hate this entitled culture of you have to tip me. People don't have the right to spit in someone's food, attack someone, verbally harass someone because they don't get a tip. If you don't like the amount of money you make, then either think about switching careers or up your prices. I believe in a livable wage for everyone but that shouldn't be compensated through tips.

@yeshuaischrist9951 100% disagree. Service prices are set for a reason. A gratuity is exactly that, a gesture of gratitude. It's not mandatory. The ONLY service industry in which tips should be expected is the restaurant industry, where servers don't even make minimum wage without the offset of their tips. When I was actively working in my industry, I set my prices according to my worth and the value of my work. A tip is nothing more than a thank you, and to expect it is shady. It's incredibly unprofessional for anyone to expect a "tip" in addition to what they're already being paid.

The person who acted the fool over a tip is the one who destroyed her own career after acting foolish. Tips are not mandatory and should not be given to those who don’t earn them.. These things are happening as a consequence for her own behavior. Let me give you an analogy. It’s like if a witness that testifies about a murder and the murderer goes to jail and blames the witness for ruining his life. Doesn’t make sense right, and neither does what you said. The business owner had no right to do what she did. Especially what happened to the child. What the hell is wrong with these people . Regardless if she thought she deserved a tip or not why attack the child she had no control over who did her hair and how it was being paid for. To cut off the child’s hair and traumatize her shows the character of the hairdresser and someone like that should not be allowed to operate a business calling people who had guns to scare someone into leaving a tip is pretty fucked up no matter how you look at it. You are sick if you think that the person who complains or takes action is the one who is in the wrong smmfh

I got my hair braided and the girl did take over 8-9 hours to braid my hair because they are braiding hair to it and adding hair at the same time. the girl only charged me 60 and my hair came out very pretty the braids were beautiful, I had originally set aside 450 for the braids payment, so when she said 60 I was like oh no she deserved more she took the time to braid my hair and it wasnt just my time it was also her standing for nearly 9 hours doing my hair so I gave her the money and she didnt want to take it all, she said at least take back something I told her it was fir her hard work. /my husband loved the hair he said it looked great. A week later I took them out and took my husband and I 6 hours taking them out. But it was worth it Id do it again. Of course the woman in rhis video shouldnt of demanded a tip thats not ok, I would like to hear the braiders side of the story, because I dont get why it would escalate so much over a tip, if she wasnt paid at all because the reaction makes no sense, Also does she have more video? Would you rather it be factored in to the price? Which will then clearly be more than you would consider tipping and you would be even more outraged 😝

@alwayssunnycali1700 A tip is gratuity it shouldn't be mandatory. If you do a good job or you get good service, than you are deserving of a tip. You shouldn't tip for the sake of tipping. Some people don't deserved to be tipped. Especially if they are rude or give bad service.

@@alwayssunnycali1700 the prices are already outrageous with these stylists. They even expect you to wash your hair before coming in and still charge premium.

@@groovinjsmooth well bud your kinda of missing the point. Majority of the people go into these professions because the income is tip dependent, kind of like sales and commission, otherwise no one would take these jobs. So if the customers stop tipping, the industries will have no choice but to raise the prices to adequately pay their staff. There is no doubt that the woman in this video was out of hand and I’m not defending her. I was only responding to the person above. You guys think tipping culture is ridiculous? wait until the tips are eliminated completely and your forced to pay triple the price for your buzzcut and half goes to Uncle Sam 😉

Why didn't she drive away, stop wearing those braids and do your child's hair in a cute style and that chick needs to be in jail, and next time say nothing about a tip.

10 hours to have a child sit in a styling chair? Nope! Too much time and too much money. And I hope assault and battery charges were filed.

She never said she paid that lady . The news said how much the hairstyle cost.. it’s very suspicious that you record the lady instead of pulling off with your daughter.. from my point of view she recorded that lady to make her look guilty but you didn’t know she had crazy people to pull up on her and therefore she put child in a dangerous position.

It says others pulled up, also had guns. Idk heat of the moment and mom froze up. Just tryna get her daughter hair done. Still a young mom, in days of recording etc… they’re both safe inspite of. A real stylist gonna retract that trauma and baby girl gonna continue to grow beautifully. Still no tip for her she crazy and all that in front of child smh
