The 27-year-old contestant had a traumatic childhood as her mother was tortured for dowry. She revealed that since her mother got married, she hasn't been happy even for a day. Yet her mother asked her not to worry about her and concentrate on her studies. Sonal did that. She completed her studies and got a job. And for the last five years, her mother has been happy as she tries to fulfil all her wishes.
Sonal and her mother have been victim of domestic violence. With such a traumatic childhood, her only aim was to become independent and gift a better life to her mother and in a way has been successful in doing so after she got a job. She wanted to use KBC as a platform to spread awareness against dowry. She wants to spread the message that one should not succumb to social stigmas such as domestic violence and dowry and stand up against it. Sonal's mother Mamta is very proud of her daughter and got emotional while talking about her.
Sonal carried on with the game and easily crossed Rs 80,000. However, she wasn't able to identify a historical monument and used her next lifeline 50:50 to give the right answer.

She soon had to use her next lifeline Expert Advice as she wasn't sure about a question related to Vinod Dham, an Indian-American engineer. Expert Rajiv Makhni helped her in giving the right answer and win Rs 3.2 lakh.

After winning Rs 6.4 lakh, Sonal called for Jodidaar's help for 12th question. Even her mother wasn't sure of the answer so she decided to quit the show and took home Rs 6.4 lakh.
