    Built my indoor pool while building my house, so I saved a ton. Cost 60k…and has skylights and house is mainly solar. Electric bill runs about $120 a month year around and I can swim anytime I want.

    Christian, I hope you see this and can answer my question. My sister just had a new home built. It has a U shape at the back of the home with a roof covered large patio, and the two walls to the side. The only thing that is NOT enclosed is the one wall. It has a high-pitched roof and ceiling fans, a grill, and patio furniture. The back and sides of her home are stone. Can you give me any idea what the cost of installing a small pool, on a patio, like that, and enclosing the back wall would be? What are some things to look out for such as, would we need special kinds of seals around the windows or doors, leading out to the patio, in order to keep humidity and mold from entering the home? Also, she has a fireplace, which I think would be enough to heat in the area in wintertime. Also, a saltwater pool would be nice to help cut down on a cholerine smell. A wall of windows would be nice, especially a couple that could open, for in the summertime. I could see installing a dehumidifier, and pool heater, but don't see hooking it up to the HVAC. Would you recommend a fiberglass or concrete pool for a project like that?

Do we need to hire a pool person to check on the pool while we are away? Or are there newer pools today equipped with back up systems for pool pump incase of power failure , etc... Is a saltwater pool a good idea for indoors? Would an atrium style room help with energy costs due to passive solar? I’m thinking of an addition on my house that combines a greenhouse with a pool, I’d like the roof to be glass and either retractable or vent-able. I’m in northwest Ohio along the shores of Lake Erie so it’s a brutal midwestern winter and swimming is hands down my happiest place, it’s just not worth it to have a pool from late May to early September, you do not get enough good days to justify the costs, indoors I’d use it every day if not twice a day, seems a lot more economically sound with the uptick in usage. I should say growing up we had one, it definitely caused humidity problems and I’d like mine to only share one wall with my existing home. Ugh, it’s so much to consider!! It’s the cost of a house essentially.

    A saltwater pool will do just fine indoors. Here's a link to a pic on our facebook page of an indoor pool we did not too long ago...facebook.com/riverpoolsandspas/photos/a.10150199911681095/10156405984326095/?type=3&theater There are retractable structures out there now for indoor/outdoor swimming pools. Here's one company (this is not a formal recommendation for this company, but rather an example we found) www.sunrooms-enclosures.com/pool-enclosures/ Hopefully this information helps. Colleen Sword we just opened up our addition to accommodate the pool!! I’ve got a saltwater system picked out and we are going with an atrium style center roof. I’m still edgy but the way we added it on it’s only going to share one wall with the rest of the home. We live in a U shaped ranch with a courtyard in the middle FRONT and it’s a mid century California style with vaulted ceilings and WALLS of windows, I blew out the kitchen and it’s seating area into a great room and we will be building off that with the pool area. Fortunately my partner and his friends are all handy. The pool will be done by them, we won’t be needing contractors for the entire gig. Still going to consult and get permits straight.

  • @joshualruby

    Actually, for a shell of a building it can start around $20/sqft installed (that's metal building kits). Then for insulated metal kits, it's about $30/sqft. (I have a friend who built an insulated 65x160 complex for a tennis court and workshop space and it was around $300k, so about $30/sqft). Once you add in bathrooms and plumbing (some of which will be there anyways if you are doing a pool) it will take the price up a bit more. Building on a smaller scale than 10,000 sqft will also increase the price/sqft. So, his number of $100 is quite reasonable, if not more than necessary for base essentials. The added costs for regular construction has to account for more electric, drywall, interior framing, etc. that isn't necessary for pool shell buildings. I hope that helps explain a bit better.

    Would you suggest saltwater or Chlorine for an indoor pool?

  • @RiverPools

    @RiverPools

    A saltwater pool is a chlorine pool. It's just converting salt to chlorine👍As for our suggestion...we'd lean towards salt. Or even a mineral/chlorine feeder with UV sanitation as well.
