When speaking with the locals, I recommend you use Google Translate rather than going blind. They will appreciate it more. Being an Aussie who used to live in Indonesia, I can tell you that Indonesians are very friendly but they don't often speak English, except perhaps in Bali. Pork is available in certain area in Jakarta, as the city is a HUGE megapolitan city with different aspect of religions and cultures. You are now in South Jakarta. You want to eat pork, you go to North or West Jakarta. There are a lot of parts of Jakarta that you won't believe how different they are.

Actually there are Pork in Indonesia but in certain area and not just everywhere, usually in Chinese communities area and other non muslim communities. 19:46 you should have tried the Avocado with brown sugar one it is delicious ....... Avocado in Indonesia is considered a fruit, not vegetable. BTW you should try Gado-gado if you havent most famous Indonesian Vegan Salad, super healty and delicious.

17:09 that cendol is the OG cendol , the Cendol you guys order is the way cendol suppose to be . Other than that is modified already. So basically Cendol the green jelly is made from rice flour, and that brown sweet liquid is Palm Sugar, and the white one is Santan/coconut milk.

16:43 Sweet syrup for ES CENDOL it was from Palm Sugar amd that white one was Santan / Coconut Milk. Tape / Tapai ( that yellow one beside palm sugar syrup) was from fermantated Cassava.

5:56 Nope. Daging means meat, it can be chicken, beef, fish, etc. They need to put the word there instead of just "sate ayam" to differentiate with the sate ayam kulit (chicken skin satay). And it's "Lontong", the rice cake wrapped in banana leaves.

Ask for a little bit of sugar if you don't like sweets that much.. "sedikit gula" same for spicy food, "sedikit pedas", because the standard of Indonesian food is spicier and sweeter

Fun fact : Everyone in Indonesia can barely speak English because Everyone has have 2 languages in Indonesia : 1.Bahasa Daerah (700+ language) 2.Bahasa Indonesia So Indonesian is our second language Not English 😅
