Passengers, including those with small children and elderly individuals, were locked in without any information, leading to frustration and chaos.
In another incident, an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Guwahati made an emergency landing in Dhaka, Bangladesh, due to sudden bad weather conditions in Guwahati. The flight, delayed initially during takeoff from Mumbai, faced challenges in Kolkata and Bhubaneswar, resulting in further disruptions.
A disturbing video surfaced on social media showing a passenger slapping an IndiGo co-pilot during a Goa to Delhi flight delay. The flight, delayed for over 10 hours due to weather conditions, left passengers enraged. According to reports, the pilot blamed passengers for the delay, further escalating tensions. The accused passenger has been detained by Delhi police and added to the no-fly list.
Celebrities like Ranveer Shorey also expressed frustration on social media for facing a 10-hour delay on a Bangalore to Mumbai flight. Shorey accused IndiGo of misleading explanations, later discovering the delay was due to a shortage of pilots, not fog. He announced his intention to file an official complaint against the airline.
Amidst widespread flight delays in northern India due to heavy fog, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued new guidelines on January 15, 2024. Airlines are now required to cancel flights expected to be delayed by over three hours, inform passengers in real-time about the status and expected departure time, and prevent overcrowding at airports. These measures aim to alleviate the inconvenience caused to travelers and curb losses for airlines.
