Indigenous storytelling as a political lens | Tai Simpson | TEDxBoise

Tai Simpson works in anti-racism education and community organizing. She calls on her non-native audience to embody “old ways” when voting, teaching, and living in the world. Tai is a warrior and storyteller working in anti-racism education and community organizing. She is a direct descendant of Chief Redheart of the Nez Perce tribe and a tireless advocate for social justice. Tai is well-loved and supported by a four-legged, amber-eyed "Gunner." She enjoys sunshine, dogs, and wine. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

"Our old ways should be the only ways." How perfect. Great talk. Great storyteller. Just amazing. I loved this and thank you very much for sharing.

Connected to the undercooked but not the overcooked- there was a bit of anti-blackness in this omission. I understood that she was talking to "assumedly" a predominantly white crowd- and she was trying to bridge the colonizer and colonized- but the fact that she talks bout the overcooked but does not reference it in the connection is odd.

She did at the end, but I do understand on some level what you mean. I thought about that too when she mentioned that the undercooked are Coyote's creation too. I, of course, believe in God's creation. But the same concept goes. We're all part of the same creation. It is sad that it has to be said for some people--white or not.

Dog it was an attack on everyone except the “perfectly cooked” people. She literally called herself the master race and we all just sat there and let it happen cause she thinks that she’s oppressed.

Tai, what a beautiful display of sharing with us your ancestral teachings of being and knowing and doing. Beliefs that belong to our history and should rightfully be embedded into new (American as it is known as) culture. Wow, keep shining, you are here to share Indigenous spiritual teachings to the world..I believe that anyway.

Hey Ted talks! Why did you block the ghislaine lecture? Copyright infringement??? Seems a bit suspect. Also, the comments are turned off. What is the secrecy about?

The creation story you tell is the same as Blackfoot.... Cree origins are a bit different that I was taught. I won't get into it to take away the teachings provided...Blackfoot teachings are so valuable to what humans are and can be to society .
