Indigenous leaders confront the museum | Making of "More Than Gold" pt. 2 | Unpacking the Universe

"Unpacking the Universe" is a documentary series that follows the journey of curators Diana Magaloni and Julia Burtenshaw researching, developing, and installing the exhibition "More Than Gold: Splendour and Thought of Indigenous Colombia".
Eager to find out information about their objects, the curators get connected with leaders of the Arhuaco community in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in northern Colombia, who are descendants of the Ancient Tairona peoples. But instead of answers to their questions (Who made this? What does this mean? Where is it from?) they receive an unexpected reminder.
The groundbreaking exhibition “More Than Gold” presents an entirely new perspective on indigenous Colombian art and culture. For almost seven years, the curators worked with the Arhuaco community to gather knowledge about around 400 impressive artefacts. Together, they have created an exhibition that provides new insights into this art, which has been largely unknown to us until now.
This exhibition is a production of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), The Museum of Fine Arts Houston and the Museo del Oro y Unidad de Artes y otras Colecciones-Banco de la República, Bogotá. In Europe, the exhibition can only be seen in Zurich.
