Just a thought... you would be surprised how much that indicator reading moves when you turn it from above to below the point you're indicating just from the weight of the actual indicator.

I use a Blake and keep the mirror in the toolbox.....it's held in the chuck by a precision chuck that's also indicated in.

I don't go to the underside, just 2 sides and the top.

it turns out that you need to check each position of the tool or is there the same X value for converging with a drill for any position?

That's a solid insert bar;there's really no need to indicate that in ;indicate a small drill bit ;or a center drill or something I've never had to indidicate something like that in

How would you indicate tools then? I'm learning the lathes and looking to learn a lot. If you don't mind sharing a vid, that would be great or can you please describe how you would have indicated the drill different from the vid here.

@@mightydeathlash2867 the weight of your measuring system wil easly ofset you with 0.01mm when its upside down for instance.
