Gundruk is not vegetable that grows in nepal only 😅 It's actually leafy greens that is fermented in a jar & then sun dried, that's why it has strong taste and bit of sourness. The curry soup made out of Gundruk is delish.🤤 Hope that helps, cheers!

I'M very thankful and greatful to you guys for testing all these out and As a Nepali I respect you guys❤ 🇳🇵. Just a correction - "Gundruk" Is a fermented vegetable waste ( mostly Reddish leaf, cabbage leaf) any green leaf that is not used on the daily meal. Are crushed and stored for fermentation which are later used in the winter season as a sabji.

Glad you guys enjoyed the food, but as a Nepali viewer watching the way food was prepared was extremely hard for me to watch haha! None of the recipes were really authentic (I think I'm allowed to expect some authenticity from a fancy restaurant with expensive prices), but on the other hand, like the anchors said, they must have modified it to fit Indian palate. The recipes are easily available on the internet, but watching the way food was prepared made me screech. So let me give some of my insight on the food 1. Thukpa - It'd have tasted 10 times better if you guys had added the achar/chatni in the broth. 2. Momo - No comments actually, specially for the price, need ok tested team to come to Nepal to actually taste real momo with our delicious jhol and varieties of achar. 3. Chhoila - Probably one of the easiest thing to make, but it looked like chicken chilly. 4. Gundruk - It's not actually grown but rather spinach and other types of saags are dried, beaten, and stored for a week to 10 days for fermentation, then they are taken out, and dried again and can be stored for months, we make achar out of it, as well as gundruk ko jhol (soup), which is wonderful, but as you guys said it most definitely is acquired taste. 5. Yomari - The dish they brought up when they said yomari actually brought tears to my eyes because of how bad it was, restaurants in Kathmandu sell it (the one you guys had) as chocolate momo actually, how hard is it to make a recipe for such a high end restaurant when every ingredient is easily available considering how similar Nepali and Indian cuisine are, it actually boggled my mind, and lastly yomari are also made during what we call yomari punhi/Purnima (meaning full moon) which is usually celebrated around December/January, according to the lunar calendar. On another note, that alu ko achar didn't look like alu ko achar to me at all, and you commonly eat it with khana/Puri/roti, I'm sure a lot of adjustments have been made according to Indian palate, but advertising it as authentic Nepali food would be unfair to Nepali food, last but not least, check out Yummy Food World on KZread if you're looking for authentic Nepali recipe, I rarely comment stuffs, but this actually compelled me to, if somebody is thinking of replying to this comment, please be nice hehe, thank you for coming to my ted talk.

So happy to see you guys trying Nepali food. I think the same food would taste much better if you try it in Nepal.. Authentic thukpa, aalu ko achar, local momos, and choila are authentically made here in nepali local restaurants and would probably taste much better.. Would recommend you to come visit Kathmandu and try all the local foods.. they are sooo different yet sooo delicious.. Lots of Love from Nepal❤

i'm from sikkim, had been craving for ghar ko khana and seeing this, i'm cravin even more. Gundruk is usually taken as soup with some added mashed potatoes, it is so good to take on rainy days as these. Plus gundruk is fermented spinach which is dried later on to get that tangy sour taste. some people like me so obsessed with gundruk eat it raw uncooked😎

Alu achar does not mean pickled veg in Nepal. Achar which is preserved is also available but the one u r having is freshly made achar which can be made with cucumber , radish , peas etc. it is then given a tadka with some spices after adding sesame or flaxseeds . We have many variations. Glad u enjoyed.

Really loved the video, literally made my mouth watery XD But being from a Newari tribe, just want to correct some pronunciations that we speak here locally (I might be wrong for the international level) Ne-Wa-Ri Choila is basically pronounced as Chho-ye-la or Chhwela (छोयला) typically made from grilled buffalo meat but nowadays also from chicken, duck, mutton and veggies Yo-ma-ri (not Yo-maa-ri ) is a Newari dish whose covering is made from Rice flour and inside from Chaku or Khuwa (i believe it's called khoya there) and Chaku is a Newari cuisine made from concentrated sugarcane juice, jaggery, ghee, and nuts so no chocolate or nutella in there But overall I am glad to see you guys trying out various stuffs and presenting here. Love it now and always

Everything you just ate can be remade at home even in India. Nepali dish is a simple dish which is very easy to make and is considered a comfort food. The ingredient can be readily available in India as well. The Gundruk isnt a vegetable that grows, but is a fermented vegetable which is dried, usually spinach but we have variety of Gundruk types as well. Yomari with ice-cream isnot a thing at all here in Nepal but i guess for desert it wasnt that bad. I really wished you tried Dhedo and authentic Newari alcohol as well. And I do really believe there are more authentic Nepali restaurants there than the one you visited in this video. The video was great and i loved the the explanation. Much love from Nepal

Being a nepali fan of your channel i am really happy to see u guys try nepali food❤ But it is pronounced "छोइला" not "चोइला" and its "जिम्बु" not "जोम्बु"😂 Secondly, gundruk also called sinki is made by fermenting and drying the veggies i.e raddish and leafs like mustard leaf, raddish leaf, etc. Lastly, that restaurant gave u chocolate momo instead of yomari. Real yomari is made out of rice flour dough filled with kuwa/mawa(in nepali kurauni) or chakkli( chaaku in nepali). In conclusion, this nepali restaurant failed to serve u real and authentic nepali khana🙃

Can the guys travel to Kathmandu?? i think they would enjoy it a lot. They can travel to different places and curate content around it. The team can visit to pashupatinath and explore vegetarian cuisine, next visit Swyambhu/Boudhnath and explore tibetien cuisine, then they can visit all durbar squares and explore different newari cusines, go for a pottery class. They can also make content on food from East of Nepal to the West, and terai, pahad and himal. We have quite a developed foodie/vlogging scene in KTM, so it should help the team with research. Lastly they can take an easy yet scenic trekking challenge as a healthy activity and go for bungee jumping for some thrill. And if they can have a meet and greet with their fans, i would love to meet them. On other notes, choila is pronounced with cha. Like ek, do, tin, char, panch, che, cha, choi.. choi-la. There is an annual festival called yomari puhi where newari community makes yomari and similar auspicious items that look humanoid and cute. Also they are not nearly as sweet. Mostly made with thick rice wrapper, i personally eat one for exoticism rather than taste. Newari cusine does have something else called kachela, that's raw meat mixed with boiling hot oil. Gundruk is fermented green vegetables. When i was young i had heard that green veggies were kept underground for fermentation then sun-dried and kept for the winter. I dont know if it's true, need research :) i saw Tenzing in one of the street interviews in Nepal. so, there you go. A tour guide for the team. They can also make a video on staying on hotels of different budgets. Also, video ekdam mitho cha. :) mitho translates to tasty, gulio Gu-Li-o = Sweet, Nunilo Nu-Ni-Lo = Salty, Tito Ti-To 'T is more like teen, char, panch, t; not tea, t'

The chhwye-la was so wrong. It literally means smoked meat in Newari. The one shown in this video is not it. Also, we get vegetarian versions now a days made with either mushrooms or soybean nuggets. Also, Yo: Mari means favorite bread and the outer layer is made of sticky rice. It's more related to mochi from Japanese cuisine than mo: mo: . Lots of love from Nepal.
