Ehhhhh, I kiiiiinda disagree with that last sentence. In fact, I think that's what killed the series. Temple Of Doom is my favorite, but a fair amount of people dislike it/think it's the weakest of the classic 3 because of how different it is from the 1st one. There's no archeology, and most of the movie takes place in 1 area indoors. People have this idea in their head of "what Indiana Jones is supposed to be", which is a globetrotting adventure solving pieces of an archeological puzzle, basically, just keep doing the 1st movie again. Which proved to be fatal. I think Last Crusade is good, but I can't put it up on the same pedestal as the 1st 2 because we've seen this before. Indy goes around the world, solving an ancient mystery, which leads him back to a Middle Eastern desert searching for a Christian relic, and the antagonists are even the Germans again. The filmmakers saw it as "getting the series back on track", but I see it as retreading old ground. And then the 4th and 5th movies are just the 1st movie again but far worse. At least the _crafting_ of Last Crusade was excellent. The modern sequels. desperately needed to do new things to justify themselves. It certainly would've made them better, even if every single aspect of them still would've sucked. Why do we keep needing to do the 1st movie again? We have the 1st movie. We can just watch the 1st movie. Do something else. I heard a rejected 3rd movie idea by George Lucas was Indiana Jones in a haunted house. Now for the longest time, I thought "that's fucking stupid; thank God Steven Spielberg shot that down", but after seeing the post-classic sequels, now, I really wish we could've gotten that movie. It would've been refreshingly different. Indiana Jones doesn't always have to be him traveling the world, searching for ancient clues; it can just be any adventure.

I had the same thought. Other commenters pretty much nailed it already. It looks really cool in film, but because of the mechanics it would only work if you are looking from exactly the right spot in 3D space. Stray from that spot and it breaks the illusion. So this would not work in real life, the bridge would be pretty obvious.

And the movie has a bunch of its own stuff, so it's not a _complete_ retread. What do you think of Temple Of Doom?

I had the same thought. Other commenters pretty much nailed it already. It looks really cool in film, but because of the mechanics it would only work if you are looking from exactly the right spot in 3D space. Stray from that spot and it breaks the illusion. So this would not work in real life, the bridge would be pretty obvious.
