Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Review
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny reviewed by Siddhant Adlakha. Opens in theaters on June 30, 2023.
By yanking Indiana Jones out of retirement yet again, for a fifth (and hopefully final) movie, Disney proves that some things should be allowed to end. Or, at the very least, it proves that a franchise resurrection should spend at least some of its 154 minutes doing something other than trying desperately to justify its own existence. Earnest final efforts from Harison Ford and John Williams couldn’t rescue a movie so directionless and haphazard, or action that fails to recapture the swashbuckling joys of the originals. By asking why Indy is on this adventure in the first place, and what the character gains on the other side of it, Dial of Destiny concocts paradoxical answers that fail to meet in the middle. It’s a film about letting go of the past and moving forward, but one that refuses to do the same.

@@thedarkstarr11 if your place of employment starts losing money & is constantly making bad products who is going to be on the chopping block first, the plant manager or team leads? She’s in charge & bad decisions upon bad decisions keep being made. Can’t blame the writers for the fiasco for the countless other shitshows.
Is there any recent movies other than Top Gun Maverick that successfully brought the series back to life ? 🤔

Ghostbusters: Afterlife. It was so over-the-top with fan service that it divided some fans, but it's getting a sequel, so apparently it worked.
its def better than a 4 outta 10....and way better than Crystal Skull...I enjoyed most of it

You know it's bad when people actually agree with IGN's rating

No one in this comment section has seen the movie though. It just happens to agree with their expectations
Like a 1970s rock band that just doesn’t know when to stop the track….thanks Disney!

@@commandercaptain4664 The best rock these days are actually GIRL METAL bands coming out of Japan. Look up Band-Maid, Trident, and Hanabie my dude.
They couldn't let the franchise end on the crystal skull. We can all agree on that! Perhaps they should have looked/asked tom cruise how he made top gun maverick. It perfectly revived the old franchise(?) and took notes before starting this indy 5
How does Kathleen Kennedy still have a job????
The rode off into the sunset in The Last Crusade for a reason. 😉
Damn dude a 4 from IGN is like a 1 from any normal human being.
My real question is how Kathleen Kennedy has kept her position after regularly leading severely underperforming properties. If Lucasfilm were a factory of almost any other product, and consistently produces low quality products that customers complained about, she would have been replaced long ago.
We still don't even have a decent blu ray box set of the first trilogy remastered and with tons of extras, commentaries, etc.!!!! That's also criminal IMHO.
Well done Disney for ruining yet another franchise.
Honestly the only thing surprising here is how predictable this was from the beginning. Remember when action movies were action movies, not 3-hour award seeking narratives full of junk CGI?
siddhant adlakha must be a really miserable human. the audience seems to really enjoy this. life as a critic must be exhausting and unsatisfying. this is why you have to see it for yourself. don't let douchebag critics ruin it for you.
This is so disappointing. The studio have all the money, technology and talent they need at their disposal. There's no excuse for making a bad picture.
Of course they think a woman can be the new Indiana Jones lmao
Soooo... who is waiting for the next south park episode...
I’ll still watch it. Don’t believe it’s a 4, plus it couldn’t possibly be as bad as Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. That movie was straight up garbage.

The first half wasn't bad. Its when it got to shia swinging in trees is when it got bad
Just saw the movie and can confirm that IGN is a complete joke these days. The movie is fun and a great ending for the character.
wow..didnt even get a 7 from ign. and that is an already low bar to pass.
Imagine making a movie about characters people love and then all the film proves is that the creators clearly don't.
Goddamn, even IGN thinks this movie is bad... That's pretty telling
Instead of 4 screenwriters, this movie should have been written by a proven talent who also happens to be an _Indiana Jones_ fan. Like James Rollins, author of the _Sigma Force_ book series.
Studios need to understand.. this is "James Bond in treasure hunter".. not just an action adventure..
As a silver lining, will this finally show Bob Iger that Kathleen Kennedy needs to go? Lucasfilm is desperately in need of competent leadership and would be a cash printing machine if they understood what made their properties appealing in the first place.
You really have to give it to Disney for Destroying Every Franchise they get their hands on.😢
So… if rebooting anything is only going to result in failed expectations and no one cares for original creations anymore, then what exactly is there to look forward to in the entertainment industry?
they shouldnt have made another movie without that steven speilberg flair
Darth Vader voice...."Disneys failure is now complete...we have seen the fall of Skywalker...and now Indiana Jones...."
😂 congrats Kathleen and Disney, you manage to destroy another franchise.
What a big old whige....the movie is a bit too long, but apart from that it's fun.
