Drain plug torque spec is 15 ft-lbs (20 Nm) for anyone watching this.

I wonder what the specs are for the torque of the drain plugs and I really wonder what is the correct amount of oil. I will now go and search for the relevant information needed not found in this video.

Usually drain plugs you just get them snug after all its better to have jt fall out, leak its oil infront of your back tire and die in a crash compared to overtightening and cracking or damaging anyof your engine case. So to spec is is clesrly somewhere inbetween

Just as a warning for the first time you change the oil on a Scout, sometimes they over tighten the oil filter from the factory and make it EXTREMELY hard to remove. I actually had to end up puncturing the filter with a screwdriver through the side, and use that as a leverage bar along with my filter pliers to get it off. I installed the replacement hand tight, and haven't had an issue since.

It is always a lot cheaper than a shop doing it and I'm getting ready to buy my first new bike, a 2018 Indian Scout Sixty, I've built a lot of bikes, choppers and basket cases, they turned out new sort of, but real new, I'm 66 and haven't ridden in 25 years as life just got in the way, used to ride a Goldwing to work, my Dad had a Indian Chief in 47 so I thought what the hell, they don't vibrate near as bad as a Harley does from what a friend told me who borrowed a new Scout.

When you tighten the 2 oil drain plugs you say 'torque to spec'. Well why not say in your video what the torque setting(s) are for these 2 plugs? I understand that there may be changes in engines in the future but really just say what year and model and suggest to check the owners manual if the torque settings are in ther. Other than that an OK video.

Like others have pointed out, would have been nice to have been given the specs: fastener type/size for the plug (now I get to play the what size allen wrench game at an awkard angle!), torque and how much oil. For those who always say "who could give this a thumbs down?! waaaahh wahhh" Well, the video is usless without those specs because all of us still have to go and get the manual out to change our oil. Video is supposed to help us not have to do that.

If anyone complaining about missing torque settings is an Indian rider, I might choose to buy a Harley instead. Certainly don't want to be associated with this bunch of whinnies. All the missing information he did not mention in the video are in the manual. Why not take it a step further: - Make sure to buy a Indian Scout first - Don't use open flame sources close to the engine - Don't drink from the oil container, as oil is bad for your body If you can't use a manual to look up the specs, then you should probably take your motorcycle to the dealership.

Kinda agree. While I appreciate the video I wish they would have shown the horn being removed, the full tightening of the filter, and the full tightening to spec (whatever the spec was) of the drain plugs. Also, does the oil pan need to be big enough to catch oil from the drain plugs AND removed filter? How long should the oil be allowed to drain from the bike? 30 minutes? Hour? More? Does "upright" when checking the oil mean perpendicular to the ground or on the kick stand (as shown in the video)?

I've heard you should do that but I don't think it's entirely necessary. I think it depends on the engine and where the filter sits. Could possibly get flooded with oil the minute he puts oil back in for all we know. Why don't you try throwing some oil in your Scout before putting the filter back on and see if oil drains out all over the floor. That will give you the answer.

Over filling an engine can be catastrophic, so you need to show EXACTLY where that line is or don't show it at all. Get down! Give Geronimo 10 push-ups! The very young man has to learn some time but I do understand what your talking about, I didn't start learning about working on cars and bikes till late in life as I lived in other countries till I was 18 and you can't own even a small scooter till your 21 or have a license in most foreign countries.
