The gap in the bathroom stalls is for emergency reasons. If the stall door should become blocked for some reason you can escape out the bottom like if there's a fire or I guess if someone is trying to attack you. The date writing difference most likely just comes down to how we verbally say the date. I would say today is May 15th where someone in Europe would say it's the 15th of May.

On air conditioning. Even here in the northeast US where it gets VERY cold, the spring and summer months are insanely hot and humid, contrast this with places in the south, which are astronomically hot, AC is essential. There are places in the south that are consistently 90-115 degree F even at night time :(

A lot of us here in the US hate a lot of these things, lol. We generally all hate really gappy restroom doors and the sales tax thing. Some of us (like me!) hate ice in everything and too much a/c (no, it doesn't run in winter - but in the summer if I go to a movie theater I have to bring a coat! Because it will be 95*F outside but like 45*F inside!). The free refills generally applies to soda (Coke, Pepsi), and in a sit down restaurant it might apply to tea and coffee, but not at Starbucks - you don't get free refills there. Also, we don't "choose" to not take vacation because we don't want to, it's just that most jobs don't give you any vacation, or if they do, it's short, and even then, sometimes you are punished for taking it even though they are not supposed to do that. So that one was a little misleading; it made it seem like we really hate vacations (we don't, we just can't afford to take them).

Just my thoughts on this. The bathroom stall door was exaggerated it's for safety but not quite that big. The red solo cups- we tend to buy kegs of beer and the cups came in that color. Everyone pitches in on the keg entering the party and when you pay your share you got a cup. Pluss drinking games. Taxes - US is so big and states have different laws and products are coming from around the world. It would be like all of Europe having the same tax. I think the date thing is just how we would say it, birthday - may 20th - Christmas - December 25 th ? You guys are a treat to watch !

The whole restroom door situation is for safety when you have multiple stalls. You're able to see right away if a stall is occupied without actually seeing the person inside doing their business. It's also critical for people closing up stores and restaurants at night to make sure no one is hiding in there to rob them later.

If you are in a big city like New York, Chicago, so on the people will be very distant and won't necessarily want to be friendly or talk to you unless you know them. It depends on the area.

I lived in Japan for 6 years and noticed that the whole "Americans are louder" trope is not true. Maybe in an open environment like the beach or park, but in restaurants or bars, the Japanese, at least while drinking, were far louder then Americans. Maybe we have quieted down over the years but the noise in a restaurant was so annoying, I could barely enjoy my food. On the other hand. I was speaking in a normal voice on a bus in Japan and an old lady turned around and hushed both me and my wife. I think it all has to do with the setting.

Also the US is huge, not every place has their AC on all the time. I only use mine during the summer. Its the first and only time i've ever wished the month to be the 1st digit, so i'm guessing depending on which industry had the most influence at the time they could have adopted a standard the food industry favoured.

It's not just state taxes. Cities typically have their own taxes, too. But the total tax is usually no more than 10%. Groceries aren't taxed, at all. ... The video talked about currencies but not coins. The U.S. has half-dollar and dollar coins, but you'll seldom see them in circulation. If we had interesting coins like Canadian toonies, maybe we'd use them more.

There are absolutely places in the US where groceries are taxed. Some states additionally have a bottle and/or can "deposit" added at checkout that's meant to encourage recycling (pay a little extra per bottle or can, especially for beer & soda, then get that extra payment back when returning the emptied container to an appropriate recycling facility). And some states actually have no sales tax at all (but may still have those deposits I mentioned).

A fruity and refreshing sip of spring, no matter what time of year. If they offered free refills on those types of drinks they would have been bankrupt years ago. They have so many varieties here. Also, Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts are big competitors when it comes to specialty coffees. Depending on what region you are in there will be tons of one store and very few of the other. I have one more strange 'Americanism'!! When an American family member dies, the body is preserved by embalming and is displayed in an open casket at the loved one's funeral. This practice is almost unheard of outside the United States and parts of Canada. This tradition dates back to the American Civil War in the 1860s. Soldiers killed on the battlefield would be embalmed so that the families could receive that loved one weeks later to perform a proper funeral. It helped families to accept that their family member was lost in the war and was sent back home to be buried in their community cemetery. This is still practiced today by most Americans.

Ok, I have heard and seen this part a lot. Where the Month and Day are reversed. Here is my thing. In other countries the day is first, so you hear the 6th....Well now you have 12 months to think about what they are going to say, then October THEN the year. Where in the US I find it narrows it down at the start like October, (Ok, I got the month out of 12, now what?) '6th' (Ok now I got it to the day, just need the year.) I can't speak for ALL Americans but having the Month first really does start to Narrow down, but your trying to tell a person. Oh! And the Toilet stalls! Unless you are a Toddler/young Child, NOBODY looks through the cracks of the door.

We even have deep fried ice cream. It just has to be "breaded" and super-chilled before going in the oil. Not all drinks get free refills. It's standard with water and typical sodas, but usually not specialty drinks, only rarely coffee or tea, and never alcoholic drinks unless the alcoholic drinks were "complimentary" to begin with. Also, I'm one of the Americans who actually tends to ask for little or no ice, because places serious fill the cup with ice that proceeds to melt and water down the small amount of the drink you actually asked for. The coffee-on-the-go thing is largely tied to the workaholic thing. A very common "joke" is about needing coffee to function at all because we really are bad about ever just... taking time to sit and relax. Or get enough sleep. Caffeine is considered to be an acceptable "addiction." The image shown for the bathroom thing is a bit misleading in a way that maybe makes things worse. The image shows what one would assume is a man peeing, but that's the one "toilet" activity that usually does NOT happen in a stall in public restrooms. Men's rooms are equipped with both toilets and urinals, and there is usually a single wall at most separating one urinal from another. More often, there is nothing between for privacy; in some cases, the urinal setup is actually just a single, long trough for however many men can comfortably stand side by side while taking a wizz. It's also not unusual for urinals to be poorly designed to where it's basically impossible to not make a mess. Also, from what I've heard, it seems like bidets are fairly common outside of the US - they are pretty much non-existent within the US, though. Moving back to the food & drinks topic to add a couple things: A much-loved dish in the US that I've learned baffles and sometimes angers at least some Europeans is chicken & waffles. We treat waffles as a breakfast food rather than a dessert, and we like mixing sweet & salty, and... somehow chicken & waffles ended up being one of the things to develop out of that. I've also found out that basically no other country has the same concept of lemonade as the US; here, it's a juice-type drink. Since it's just lemon juice (or a specialized powder mix, but using actual lemons is better), water, and sugar, it has popularly been a "first business" for kids during the summer, where they set up stands in front yards to sell passers-by a glass of iced lemonade for cheap, and it's common for adults to buy it just because it's a little business stand being run by kids. The practice is dying out, but lemonade remains a beloved, very specific drink, sometimes with additional flavors added (most commonly strawberry) just for some more flavor variety (my favorite so far is blueberry mint lemonade). Also, American gun stereotypes have way too much truth. Even some of the really crazy claims... I can pretty much guarantee are an accurate depiction of at least some Americans.

People can and do stick their heads under bathroom doors. Usually only kids though, but still. I can only speak for myself, but I assume most women at least have had a visitor in a public bathroom climb under to look in, or have a conversation. Disconcerting, but as I said, it's (hopefully) usually a kid, so how mad can you get. A bit of annoyance for the adult they're with, but they have to take care of business too. And I for one should be glad of this gap, as when I was young I had a talent for figuring out how to lock myself into stalls every time. How many times I got locked in and couldn't get it unlocked!! Just crawled right under. I'm glad I don't have that problem anymore. I don't think I want to get down on a public bathroom floor as an adult. I have adult knowledge of the cleanliness of those floors. lol

Has he ever met a laborer? Within the first 12 days of any month, the differing systems can cause a lot of confusion. Aside from being a potential issue with visitors and immigrants, it can also cause problems between companies in the global economy. They aren't trying to stop us, though. Just noting that it's weirdly inconsistent; day/month/year keeps to a system of shortest time period to longest, but month/day/year mixes it up. And to maintain consistency displaying date AND time, it's best to do longest to shortest: year/month/day hour:minute:second. It's not what we're used to seeing, but it would be easier to learn in the first place.
