I feel fortunate to have been born in Bengal and to be Bengali, as it allowed me to listen to his numerous Bengali compositions. Some of my favourite songs sung and composed by him include 'Woh Sham Kuchh Ajeeb Thi,' 'Jane Woh Kaise Log The,' 'Yeh Nain Dare Dare,' 'Na Tum Hamen Jano,' 'Yaad Kiya Dil Ne,' 'Beqarar Karke Hamen Yun Na Jaiye,' 'Hai Apna Dil To Aawara,' and 'Ganga Aaye Kahaan Se.' Additionally, there's a very popular Bengali song composed by Salil Choudhury and sung by Hemanta Kumar called 'Gayer Bodhu.' This song transformed Bengali music, and during one event, Salil Choudhury remarked, 'If God were to sing 'Gayer Bodhu,' he would sing it as Hemanta Kumar did; he had a voice of heaven.'"
