@@Aman12353 it’s like we are giving example about uplifting status of of SC/st , women and empowering them and u come here and type comment why don’t u give example of Marwari community.. does Punjab and Haryana have different issues. Since punjab and Haryana is near Delhi , it is convenient for players to reach Delhi. I was living 1200 km away and got a call for national level competition but had no courage to go to delhi as no one was available to take me delhi.. but at same time Odisha govt was promoting their players ,. In my school my coach was even from Odisha.. hence we r talking about odisa where talented players don’t loss in absence of facilities.. my high jump best was 1.7 mtr at age of 13. Yes I m tall and I was practising since 10 years can’t continued only till 14 years and then left sports for higher studies..

I'm from Odisha and I'm so proud of CM Naveen Patnaik for doing these.

@purkinje fibers Rani Rampal didn't win any medal, it was Manpreet Singh and his team who won Bronze medal. Why are you bringing Rani Rampal here? I am seeing here that the women's hockey team is getting more publicity than the men's team which actually had something to show for. Also , Women's team were ranked 9th before the Olympics so they were never bad or underdogs. They played extremely well but they should have bagged the bronze medal after they lost the semi-finals.

Naveen Pattnaik is underrated who needs to come in focus because where as all other CMs and minister are busy in their political establishment and party politics he is building the new ODISHA , a modern ODISHA .

Bro similar kind of situation in football, we were one of the best in Asia once but performance dropped in 60s and as he stated cricket performance got better. People started listening at radios and tvs to cricket commentary and hence after 83 cricket became most fav after that very less attention to football and hence we are here😔

One more reason behind the increase in popularity of cricket was the introduction of ODI format in 1971. Before that, only test matches were played and many people found it boring compared to hockey as it was very slow but when odi came, people started liking cricket more.

Naveen Pattnaik himself was a hockey player! Kudos to him.

I am from Odisha and really feeling proud for the steps taken by our honourable CM to bring back the craze of hockey again.

It's popularity lost to such extent that even the main sponsors of our hockey team backed the step. Befor tokyo olympics, we were having really hard time. Our team was faving financial crises. At that time, Odisha's CM shri Patnaik ji stepped im and invested 100 cr!!! To sponsor our hockey team!!! And not just that, he builded the biggest hockey stadium in the world in odisha. When every other state was busy in buildimg cricket stadiums, mr Patnaik gov was intrested in buildimg hockey stadium.. it shows how much he love the sport.. and mainly bcz of all these sponsorships and all... our both,, mens and womens team gained enough confidence to go for olympic and FIGHT FOR MEDALS... and you know the rest, So it's not that we forget punjab harayana involvement.. no bro!! Problem is that we only care about Hockey when it comes to events like Olympics, World Cup or Asian Cup. Rest of the time we hardly care. I remember the time when there is to be a PHL(Premiere Hockey League) and use to follow it religiously. Good times!! Cricket has been a constant. Hockey unfortunately has become a variable.

The amount of money we give to the players, after getting the medal, if we had given the same money first, we would have been able to practice well and the result would have been better.

There is big reason Hockey loses the interest because Hockey federation moves from grass to artificial turf which not many people affordable to play on streets. Cricket is totally different and it can be played anywhere any size. I believe this is one of the main reasons other than corporate and govt interests more on Cricket.

Munda is a different community.....oraon is different...... kharia is different......you can buy books written by Sarat Chandra Ray, he is the father of anthropology in India, in his works he describes everything about different tribes in India around the chota Nagpur Plateau which extends large region, parts of Jharkhand, Odisha and bengal.....I bet you will love the diversity India had from ages.

India's former hockey Captain , Kunwar Digvijay Singh " Babu was a great hero for us. While in school , Punjab Public School , Nabha for our Hindi subject we were prescribed " Bal Bharti " textbooks ( published by NCERT ) . One chapter was an on India hockey written by KD Singh " Babu ". In this extremely patriotic autobiographical essay K.D.Singh wrote about the glorious days of Indian hockey when India was invincible .We , as school students , reading this chapter ,were very emotionally charged and for us KD Singh became a hero . More so because in those early 1970 s years Indian hockey was on a downhill ride with a mediocre show in international fixtures.

Seriously feeling proud for our chief minister.. A proud ODIA ❤️❤️❤️

Every sports should be give priority, cricket has a good system of producing quality players..now time for all other sports for a good action plan and system to produce world class players

I wish to see more publicity in football as well...I wish one day we would all cheer for our country in world cup...

I grew up in a city in Odisha which always had supported hockey and players like Dilip Tirkey, Ignace Tirkey made it to the international spotlight. Our CM used to play hockey in his school days. Don't get the wrong idea that we blindly support all political work and opinions. But he has been supportting hockey since a very long time. He needs some credit.

असली कारण अलग है, लोग ज्यादा क्रिकेट देखते है क्योंकि बचपन मे वो क्रिकेट ज्यादा खेलते है, इसके कारण सिम्पल है, जैसे कि, 1. इसकी रिक्वायरमेंट्स बहुत कम है, 1 बैट, 1 बॉल और छोटा या फिर बडा ग्राउंड, कभी कभी तो सपाट जमीन की भी जरूरत नही, लोग कही भी खेल लेते है, 2. कितने भी प्लेयर्स खेल सकते है, 4 से लेकर 24 लोग तक खेल सकते है, जो कि अक्सर बाकी जगह नही देखने को मिलता, 3. आउटडोर गेम होने के बाद भी बहुत ज्यादा फिटनेस की जरूरत नही होती जैसी कबड्डी, फुटबॉल जैसे गेम्स में होती है, इसलिए लगभग 8 से लेकर 40-50 साल उम्र वाले लोग भी खेलते है.

My favorite sport is hockey. I am 2 times bronze medalist at state level in Uttrakhand. I played for champawat district. But after 9 th class i was evolved in studies too much. Right now I am preparing for NEET. Hope after getting a government medical college I will start playing hockey again

I am living in Rourkela at the birsa munda chalk where the stadium is building by our cm. I go to my school from that way every day.

Hockey is very much played in Coorg district of Karnataka . Many players from here have played for India but this year we did not have any. Never the less , we need to support hockey and give encouragement. hope Karnataka govt also provides good infrastructure facilities to improve the Hockey sport.

It's insane , can't imagine the amt of hardwork HC Quan would have done for Olympic at the age of 14 for gold .

The thing is cricket just increased its formats and started alternating the host nations in bilateral series. India goes to SA and lose like dogs, they bring SA and beat them like dogs. That is how India dominates the game. India is not a total dominant in Cricket. It doesn't win any 50 Over World Cup which is the official/default World Cup for cricket. 2 World Cups in almost 40 years.

Pakistan also won 4 hockey World Cups & it's a record. in Past Pakistani & indian hockey teams were champions, but now they are losers. The world's largest hockey stadium is also in Lahore, Pakistan.

The fact that india has won a total of 9 olympic gold medals in its entire olympic history out of which 8 are from hockey and the 9th one is from abhinav bindra in shooting .

Our team visited Odisha last year. We are happy to see Hockey is a popular game in Odisha and Jharkhand. Children like to play hockey rather than Cricket. Also noticed public have enthusiastic to watch their favorite players on the field.

Simple reason is Almost all the kids (especially boys) would had played Cricket in their child hood till adult hood and Cricket can be played easily anywhere and everywhere where At young age all round objects (things) would makes us think about ball and all same with respect to bat(book stick pad ).... Even while simply walking we tend to do blowing action and try shadow batting ✌🏽 Cricket it's just not a spot to Indians it's an emotion We don't hate other sport .... It's just we are introduced to cricket and it's easy sports to understand

See hockey puck is not suitable for catching...meanwhile cricket has many balls like u could play with tennis ball and rubber ball or cork ball..fielding is a part of cricket s many kids play catches and u can't play catch catch with a hockey puck..

Hitler didn’t stay at the stadium till the end of the match (final) and it was probably Goering who gave away the prizes. I say this with some conviction because Joe Gallibardy, then the last surviving member of the 1936 Olympic hockey team, said so at a press conference in Kolkata in 2007. I had attended that hurriedly organised press conference. "I think he (Hitler) left after our fourth goal" is what Gallibardy had said. Gallibardy was on his way to Kurseong to join the centenary celebrations of his alma mater, Goethals Memorial School.
