I have heard a lot about this river but never in my life thought of visiting this Irrawaddy River or, officially, Ayeyarwady River.
This river flows from north to south through Myanmar. It is the country's largest river and most important commercial waterway.
As early as the sixty century, the river was used for trade and transport. Having developed an extensive network of irrigation canals, the river became important to the British Empire after it had colonized Burma.
And about this famous Pagoda :
This is Chow Koungmulong Chow Kang Kham, a pagoda believed to house of the remains of Lord Buddha from an earlier incarnation as the Golden Deer called ( KANG-KHAM).
This Pagoda is believed to be 2320 years old. It has gone under 3 renovation till now.
Since 2017, an annual festival is organized to pay respect to the relics. This year in 2020, the festival starts from 5th to 8th of Feb.
In olden days the SAO KANG KHAM festival was celebrated in the month of November and in 2002 it was rescheduled to February month. Because, November was the peak season for paddy harvesting due to which only few people of PUTAO area attend this festival.
Now, people from Lower Myanmar, Shan State, Khampti awn and also people from abroad attends this Festival.
Well, there were many facts which I was pretty unaware of during my last visit to Myanmar..
One of them was to meet different Tai Races...
It was indeed my Privilege to come across so many races of the tai community together in one festival... I was truelly amazed. I never knew that there were so many different races of the tai race here in Myanmar.
I could recall only few of them. like... Tai-On, Tai-Long, Tai-Nuo, Tai-Neng, Tai-Khampti , Tai-Khampti-Long.
2020 of this month the money value was; One Rupees = 18.95 Kyats.
