India China Tensions Cause $15 Billion Loss to Electronics Manufacturers | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Amid growing border tensions between India and China, Indian electronic manufacturers are raising concerns. They claim the border tensions is hurting business, causing losses to the tune of $15 billion. Recent reports claim, India has been reviewing its visa policies. The easing of curbs may lead to more visas being issued to skilled Chinese workers. But India's import dependence on China is seen as a security risk. Experts believe Beijing could use this trade dependence as leverage against New Delhi. Palki Sharma tells you more about the potential risks.

I am a electronics product development engineer by profession. The fact is India does not manufacture basic electronics components and even if it tries the components cost is higher than the Chinese manufactured component prices even after importing them and paying 100 % customs duty. The reason is India has to import raw materials from China to manufacture the components. We claim we manufacture iPhone's in India but the truth is we just assemble the parts which are imported from China. India does not manufacture the lcd displays of any mobile phones we just import them. In any electronic product manufactured in India 60 to 90% components are Imported from China. In other words we are 15 to 20 years behind china and we cannot compete with them because India does not have mineral resources like china, when PM talks about make in India the Chinese will be laughing at us because it's a joke.

Coz Chinese dialy wages are cheap. Will your state kerala allows such wages to be paid to their people! We can't compete with a military regime where people have low wages n less benefits compared to other parts of the world. India started late coz our Khan Gress governments were busy looting our public money. We will get there m it will take time.

US and EU are already decoupling from China. One of the many reasons the economy of China is starting to experience a huge slowdown. US is going further and banning sales of high tech goods to China with China rapidly trying to fill the gaps. Then there's the massive overcapacity of real estate building in China which is another bubble getting ready to blow... The next few years will be interesting. My prediction is India will be buying a select few of these Chinese companies for a song.

India still lacks economic wisdom and foresight. They should separate trade and border skirmishes. These two should not be mixed together. China is too smart to engage in a full scale war with India as they know their 2049 ambition will go down the drain if they do so. Just admit it that India needs Chinese products to grow India's own economy. Blind patriotism will only hurt India more. The west expects India and China to go into full scale war to prevent both countries from taking over the western countries economically. China knows this only too well but I don't know if India does.

modis bharath has done extremely good compared to last 70 years rule , foundation for development has been laid,, now what is needed to develop india further is manufacturing and less dependence on enemy countries, 1. reduce tax on import of raw materials 2. give attractive tax benefits for manufacturers and foriegn investors ( excluding c) 3. train youth in manufacturing there are so many small things which can manufactured easily imported from china, that needs to stop

Poverty in India has two meanings. Before the invasion and occupation by the foreign countries: by the Portuguese from the 16th century to mid 20th century, by muslim from 12th century till the British took over India in the beginning of 17th century till India became independent in 1947, poverty of India was mainly spiritual. Material poverty started after invasion and occupation. It is true that present-day poverty is very stark. But the good news is that India's development is positive despite various himalayan problems. India is still together despite many languages and dilects and customs & traditions. India has shown proficiency in modern science & technology. The general public is smart and intelligent. It is a very complicated chess game in the matter of governing India domestically and internationally. Some questions arise why India is a member of BRICS CLUB, where some members have very bad human rights issues, among other problems that would not be allowed in democratic India. It is true that India had problems with the West since the beginning of her independence. Russia was a great friend. But time has changed. I am certain India has to play a very tactful diplomacy in cases of Ukrain war and China. Moreover, from the Ukrain war, it is now evident that the Russian ammunition is not up to the mark. India must invest in highly technical and electronically operated armaments, space technology, and AI in defence against her adversaries. The positive point is that India is developing and, at the same time, tackling the poverty problem. Best of luck to India/Bharat.

To 'completely pivot away from the world biggest manufacturing hub (China)' is a naive statement and bad economics, unless India and China is in a direct military war, which i don't see it happening as both are nuclear powers. And there's only one outcome from a nuclear conflicts - we both sink together and dissipate while the west watch on happily cheering from the side... the downfall of two potential future superpowers in one frame 😍. You see, diplomacy and economics cannot be dictated by emotions and weak sentiments (like Palki) even if there are differences between countries. If it does, it'll be a disaster for the country in the world stage. Instead, it follows the principles of pragmatism and practicality to maneuver the complex world situation... which I'm sure India is doing exactly that. That's why China is still our largest trading partner despite the border issue. Just because of one difficult situation with a country, we cannot wrapped up all our other relations with that country in anger and call it 'quit' like a loser immature child. That's not how geopolitics and diplomacy work. Diplomacy is all about - being in the game, playing the game, finding middle grounds, give some - take some, make compromises whenever necessary etc... that's how diplomacy works, not emotional outburst like we often see here 😉

Incidentally his research was on advanced electronics. Now in India, it's the opposite. Every Indians dream is to make a beeline for the US. Intellectual hypocrites like Sumit pir, Sanjay Dixit, Anand Ranganathan, J Sai Deepak , Sudhansu whatevervedi will tell you why! BTW, their "toppers" all want to be babus and live in luxury at the expense of the tax payers. Maulana Modi, being from a guju dookanwala mindset, has a lot on his plate, poor guy!

@@RoRZoro it not true. the reality is India has high tarriff, the tarriff for Indian product is higher than tarriff for Chinese product. that's is why this video exist, those that tried to invest in India is LOSING MONEY. you can't do that for long term. 15% of all the semiconductor are made in china, if India don't have access to cheap chinese semiconductor and can't produce those semiconductor, you have to buy expensive semiconductor, how do you make product and still make money with high material cost? that's the problem. both US and China spend about 100 billion on semiconductor investment to gain 15% of the market each. India simply does not have the money to throw, especially when the more money you throw, the less money you make. India must decide if it want to be a manufacturer to which it must allow access to chinese suppliers or do everything itself and stall the industry until India can produce it own chip.

No, the alternative is for India to be strategic and not impulsive and too emotional. For India to be independent of China supply chain, India needs to move most of the supply chain from China. Supply chain consists of: 1. knowledge: knowledge is kept in people’s head. If you don’t allow knowledgeable people to come in, you cannot receive the knowledge 2- Firms: Chinese firms the best suitable firms to move supply chain out of China. So you need them in India. India risk losing out as more supply chain diversify into ASEAN and South America and not India.
