LOL!!!!!! That was hilarious!!!

Being Canadian I don't do anything for Independence Day, but a bunch of years back I went to a Warped Tour on July 4 in Vancouver...punk and metal bands are often not exactly fans of the USA, so that was quite a subversive experience and an absolute BLAST. If you ever have a chance to see Andrew WK live, do it! I didn't really love his music but he is one of the most captivating, exciting live performers I've ever seen, and I've seen literally thousands of bands.

"Not dying like most black characters do..." In an interview years ago, Alfonso Ribeiro once pointed out that Steve Hiller might have been the first black character in film to save the planet. As far as I can tell, he might be right. I haven't been able to think of any previous character, unless you count Lando Calrissian in Return of the Jedi, but the planets he saved were made up.

Billy Dee Williams as Landon Calrissian blows up the Death Star in ‘Return of the Jedi’ saving potentially countless planets.

I remember being in a theater when this movie came out, and people cheering and clapping with the "Welcome to Eart!". Happy 4th. to you guys.

"And then America sent a virus, destroyed the aliens and saved the day." While this movie was silly, it did have cool action scenes. Fun fact : The little girl who plays Whitmore daughter is Mae Whitman, a voice actress best known for voicing Katara in Avatar The Last Airbender.

Fun fact: They released a book to the movie - which I bought back then since I was a big fan (it was the first big movie I had ever watched in cinema, so it was a really, really big thing for me^^). The book is almost exclusively a 1:1 copy of the movie, but it actually handles the "fire in the tunnel" scene much better - so that it at least makes some kind of sence. The small side room was supposed to be open to the sewers. So as the fire burns away the air, it succs in tons of new (cold) air from the sewers - allowing the trio to breathe and not be burnt to death. However, the suction also means the wind in the small room is so strong, Will Smith's wife (too lazy to look up her name^^) needs to cling to a grid with all of her strength shielding her son and the dog with her body so that none of them get succed into the fire. Which then however makes the way the movie handled the dog's last minute jump / eccape even more ridiculous somehow :D Also yeah 2nd movie was trash. The way it sets up a third one believing it'll get one is especially laughable..

I love this film, I really do. Yeah it's kinda dumb, but who cares. For 2.5 hours, even a Brit like me turns into a proper American patriot!

OMG, I love this!!! Living in DC, I remember how awesome it was to see buildings blown up during the movie. Now, it's different, but still, Independence Day is a movie I can still enjoy even with the dated material. It holds up. And Will Smith's performance was excellent. Thank you for this video!! 🤗👍🏽😁

Hey Hey!!! I agree! It's one of my favorite movies from the 90s for sure!!

I saw the movie on the biggest screen the theater had at the time on July 4th. It was awesome. Pitch Meeting has a rare serious misstep trying to poke holes in the logic of the film with Steven “randomly” finding her. She drove to El Toro base, where she was supposed to meet him. It is entirely logical that is the first place he would check, where they last agreed to meet. I’ve also seen the alternate cut of Independence Day, I don’t know if you have. It baffles me that they didn’t include a line from that in the theatrical cut that takes like 10-15 secs and makes their whole plan more plausible. The line says that nearly all the technological advancements of the past 30 years are a result of reverse engineering tech from the alien ship in Area 51. This is why it is so easy for the computer to interface with the alien ship.

I remember when this came out!! Memories...

“And the fact they show up on a decades old missing ship doesn’t raise any red flags?” - It doesn’t, no. Do they have a code clearance? - It’s an older code, sir, but it checks out.

They are special times!!! There are times when I like to watch movies at home, but it will never compare to watching in the theater. At least for most films.

_Independence Day_ was co-written and directed by German director Roland Emmerich who made it big in Hollywood by knowing exactly what US-American audiences want to see in summer Blockbuster action movies. In the 1990s Emmerich was the king of cheesy over-the-top Action/Disaster B-movies with big special effects budgets... lots of destruction but they always ends on a a happy end (for the protagonists). Here in Germany, we keep joking that the US-Americans who cheered for the movie didn't notice how it's subtly subversive in its tropes and protagonists: Earth isn't saved from the invasion by the typical square-jawed blond white action dude with guns or the US military, but by 1. an African-American fighter pilot punching a space alien, 2. a drunk white hillbilly, 3. a Jewish computer tech nerd and his old dad, 4. a nerdy scientist (who in part 2 turns out to be gay). And it acknowledges that _other nations and countries outside the USA exist on Earth!_ But Emmerich mixed in enough tropes from American disaster movies/alien invasion movies to keep audiences happy: 1. the US military looking heroic, 2. Jeff Goldblum playing Jeff Goldblum, 3. the heartwarming "family values" trope (brave lone mother/dad saving their kid and the family dog), 4. an American president personally fighting the good fight, 5. New York, the White House and other American landmarks, 6. NUKES!

Yooooo this is the video we all wanted to see! Good stuff Mike! Yeah, I have seen this movie literally hundreds of times, and not only do I not get tired of it, I enjoy it MORE each time haha. Honest Trailers was hilarious, but Pitch Meeting absolutely crushed this one, it's just undeniably one of the funniest Pitch Meetings overall. The dog-fighting part, and the part where he's like "Oh he's got just a ton of jokes... but his friend just died? Yeah, just a ton of jokes" lmao best line! Yeah, Independence Day is like the epitome of 90s nostalgia for me. It's definitely one of my favorites of that era despite its campiness haha. I saw this movie when someone brought it to a small holiday gathering, I really enjoyed it. Sure it has a lot implausible happenings, but so much fun they're easy to ignore. Honest Trailer's point about everything being so dark lately, actually it's too dark at times and getting to an overload point because that's next to all they're making. As I type this people are shooting off many fireworks all around with the smell of barbecues in the air gives much needed moments of joy and celebration after the hard year and few months we've all lived through. For once it's about more than sky sparkles and good tasting food, it's about people being up instead of down. We need movies that bring life and real joy too. Pitch Meeting for me, but Honest Trailers was very good. Ryan was on his game with this one, "What were the dogs fighting about?" among many others was so good. Oh dear Writer Guy gets character development points for a guy who had weird stuff done to his butt? No, Producer Guy no; rethink that one.

This film was a blast in theater's, I remember in the theater version there was this scene where the father of Jeff Goldblum's character had an argument with someone on air force over the plane not having any tuna on board and it was cut from the home video release.

I don't care what anyone says I absolutely Love this movie!!!!!! Watch it and still cry!! I'm so glad you did this!! Happy 4th everyone!! Being white or maybe just how I was raised I never thought about how Will Smith was black I just absolutely adored his character!! And all his music and movies!

I'm guessing you've never seen the national lampoon films for the Cousin Eddie joke or have simply forgotten Randy's character , highly recommend them if this is the case. Have to agree with HT tho Bill Pullman certainly did channel Shatner for this role

I gotta say despite its flaws, I love this movie. It’s one of those rare ones I can watch over and over again. Part of the fun is every time I see it, I find something else that doesn’t make sense. I still remember who I brought on a date to see it as well. I think what made it work was the movie never took itself too seriously nor did the actors. Both of the videos were great. Feels like a tie to me. I’m watching it again when I get home. Thanks Mike! I really enjoyed your video today.

I can’t believe it took 20 years for the awesome second one to come out

okay, check-in - Friday one of my kabooms was crap, blew up a few feet out of the tube, left ear still ringing like hell. Saturday was way better, but ran out of kabooms early and also decided to shoot Vodka when it got dusky, after drinking Miller all day in 103 heat. Today was super great, grilled burgs, dogs, burgs again, and all my kabooms did what they were supposed to do - the crowd was quite happy. I can still hear booms right now, as I'm typing this. HAPPY FOURTH!

I love this movie, it's maybe the first sci-fi action movie that I saw as a kid, I loved the visual effects, it was pretty entertaining, but for me the best part is that president's speech. Dude, if that doesn't make you feel patriotic, nothing will, and I am Peruvian. Such an inspiration for bravery, global unity and freedom. It's not my holiday but I lived for a year in the U.S., but happy 4th of July to you! In a way I am also grateful that you claimed your independence because if you had not done that, our Latin American countries wouldn't have followed your lead either.

I wish one of these would have addressed how Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum fly to the mothership, escape in a hectic chase but manage to put down their heavily damaged ship (it's burning in the background) about 100 yards from where they began. Out of all the unbelievable things in this movie, and there are A LOT of them, this was a biggie for me.

Happy Independence Day, Mr. Vaughn. Regarding the movie: Let's be honest; the movie would have been much, much less fun if they'd made any attempt at realism or originality. Regarding HT vs. PM: So, so very close, but I'm giving it to HT for being the first ones to officially recognize "...THE BEST EXTRA EVER!!!..." which he probably was. Regarding Will Smith: Was this movie his breakthrough, or was it Bad Boys? In both, he basically commanded every scene he was in, even in the scenes where he didn't seem to be doing much. Oh, on a side note, he should have gotten an Academy Award (or, at the very, very least a nomination) for Concussion (2015).

@@OnMyMindEntertainment It was really good. It hit pretty hard - especially, for me, the parts featuring Dave Duerson - and Will Smith did an excellent job; he completely immersed himself in the role.

Oh, and don't forget the ID4 Resurgence Pitch!!!!

The alien saucers were miles across. And one crashed right over Area 51. Where everyone was hiding in the bug bunker. They're all going to starve.

This film nuked Houston to test if nukes work against aliens...they don't. As a Houstonian I was slightly disturbed to see that but I still love this movie! Whoever wrote the president's speech needs to work for Biden .

@@OnMyMindEntertainment welp, a lot happened in these three days. First of all, how come the exit to the simpsons ride is a five story tall ramp, like wtf? And on top of that it was raining like crazy down in Florida, so it was sooooooooo slippery. Due to the slippery-ness, I fell and broke my feet(question mark? because 3 days later I’m completely fine) and had to get wheel-chaired out of the park back to the hotel

I watch this movie every july 4th. I have never seen the second one though, I guess I just felt it wouldnt come close to the first

2:19 I just love how this high tech military complex which has real time tracking of friendly and alien vehicles, command and control features and who knows what else would naturally have multiple telegraph devices set up just waiting to use to contact foreign air forces around the world at a moments notice Why do aliens automatically go after landmarks? Not Jaden? No it would be another 11 years before he starts trying to turn his godawful acting kids into his movie. Willow was in I am legend and could've been replaced by a five pound bag of potatoes and no one would have cared and Jaden was in The Pursuit Of Happyness, Karate Kid reboot ( which was actually kung fu but who cares I guess) and After Earth. Three of the worst movies possible The aliens had impenetrable shields, fighters and telepathic aliens but destroyed city killer weapons if the shields go down for 90 seconds Jasmine was his girlfriend, not his fiance, not wife In a deleted scene, Russell didn't become a pilot for the battle so he straps a missile to his crop duster biplane and uses it to crash into the ship Will Smith died before the events of the second movie so... the black guy dies in the movie, in a way

The sequel was set up as a "part one of two" 😒, spoiler alert there wasn't a third part made. It was so cheap how "Will Smith" was killed off screen in the sequel. Like they couldn't have kept the guy alive and show up in the third part like hey this weird thing that happened was the reason I wasn't in the second part...minus the fourth wall breaking bit.

BTW, does anyone but me think Young Jeff Goldblum would've made a pretty good Johnathon Crane/Scarecrow in a Batman movie? Just me? Okay! LOL

20+ years later, and this is still one of my most favorite films of all time. I saw it as a teenager and was a big fan of fighter jets - having built several models including the F/A 18. Seeing all of my favorite jets in huge dogfights with alien fighters turned me into a, well… giddy child. It's amazing that the film still holds up well to this day.

If anyone has not seen the sequel, AVOID it, or just watch it to see how ridiculous it is. It's nothing but a CGI-filled mess that turns into a video game boss battle by the end - complete with hit points and weak spots. For me, the original is the only ID4, and they should have kept it that way.

Gotta give it to honest trailer. Ryan forgot that Will Smith knew where to bring the helicopter cuz he told his wife the base he was going to and even though it was destroyed, he would go there first to find clues if his wife tried visiting the base 🤣
