Lyrics:
Pardon me while I burst
Pardon me while I burst
A decade ago, I never thought I would be.
A twenty three on the verge of spontaneous combustion. Woe-is-me
But I guess that it comes with the territory.
An ominous landscape of never-ending calamity.
I need you to hear. I need you to see.
That I have had all I can take
And exploding seems like a definite possibility
To me
So Pardon me while I burst into flames.
I've had enough of the world, and its people's mindless games
So Pardon me while I burn, and rise above the flame
Pardon me, pardon me. I'll never be the same.

This song got me through some of my darkest days, whether it be substance abuse, tackling attraction that wasn’t mutual, or the homelessness I went through, it strengthened my spirit. It made me feel that everything I was going through wasn’t for nothing, and that it’d lead to something better. Fast forward a few years, and I’ve got a good grasp on my emotions, I’ve become cleansed of substance abuse, and I’m no longer homeless. I pushed to survive, and I did just fine doing so. I feel that sometimes people just need a push in the right direction and that’s this was for me. Odd, because I never thought music could save people til it saved me. I hope that people out there struggling find your peace, your push to do better, and to never forget that there’s a light at the end of every tunnel.

2024 and still going strong. Thank you to all the Gen X Dads who showed their millennial daughters good music like mine did. I was born in 93 and I was raised on 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s rock, and 2000/10s emo music and I refuse to listen to anything else. Music now has no meaning music then had all the meaning. Rock music is the only genre that has stayed consistent and I appreciate that. If rock music didn't exist I don't think I would be here today.

That's a neat and interesting take I had only figured out so many years ago that I was actually a millennial I guess you could consider me an elder millennial so I do feel like I was raised closer to the generation of Gen x, back then when this music was out I thought it was annoying stuff to gen xers but as I've grown older I've learned just how quickly time flies and how much of an illusion it really is enter always appreciate what I have cuz it is fleeting. It's very touching what you said about your dad, I was fortunate and still am fortunate to have parents that raised me a little bit old school

A song about coming of age and the everlasting fear of death. A reflection of what we all know is inevitable, being a ripe age of 18 this song has a deeper meaning than most think. The idea of bursting among the flame is going beyond death. Whether you believe in god or not we all have our struggles and suffering. Times change and the world changes, whether you change with the times is up to you. The song is beautiful in every way possible.

Death comes to all of us. Worrying about a natural process is foolish. Accept that fact, but do know what you have done will affect the future. Were you a good parent? A good person? If God exists then this entity will sort us out for eternal life. If God doesn't exist then realize your choices, regardless of belief, in YOUR life affects future generations. We all matter while we live. Our actions or non-actions affect the future.

I’m 23 years old, born March 5, 2000, and the fact that I can now say the line “A decade ago, I never thought I would be at 23 on the verge of spontaneous combustion” is so satisfying. I’ve been listening to Make Yourself ever since I was 7 years old. Incubus have an incredible discography and Brandon Boyd is an incredible songwriter and artist. Make Yourself is and will always be my favorite record from them. Rock on🤘🏻 *Edit* 24 years old now and totally forgot I made this comment. Man time flys.

I've loved this song forever but somehow never saw the video until today. It feels like I went back in time to when you had to figure out which hours of the day MTV actually played music, then cross your fingers and hope they played something you wanted to see. By the time I started watching MTV2 (remember when they played music there too?) and Fuse, Incubus was more popular and they only played their newer videos. Pretty awesome that now you can hop on KZread and see any video, any time, as many times as you want. The kids nowadays have no idea how different it was just 15 years ago.

I believe this song is talking about evolving out of your physical body into your spirit light body by burning through your karmic residue. Its kinda like you have to go through darkness in order to appreciate the light. Like symbolism of a phoenix--The phoenix when it grows tired, it builds a nest of aromatic twigs, and then sets fire to itself to be consumed in the funeral pyre of its own making. After three days, the phoenix would arise from the ashes, reborn.

I was considered a freak at that time because I was way too advanced comparing with my fellow comrades. And they had an album... And that album was rolling all day long (here you have its main song: kzread.info/dash/bejne/X219w8eYkcq6ZMo.html&ab_channel=MusicListen )... Until in one Sunday, when we were laying in our beds and radio was pumping... I heard a song that crashed all my boundaries, that released my entire frustration and depression accumulated in few months... Yes, it was this song... Incubus - Pardon me... And I released my depression in 3 minutes... Long last Incubus!

Such a TRULY GREAT SONG. Because the world doesn't recognize or commiserate with your mental health breakdown... even though that breakdown is a direct result of recognizing that the world itself is sick, corrupt, heatless and unjust. And so we sing: So pardon me while I burst into flames I've had enough of the world and its people's mindless games So pardon me while I burn and rise above the flame Pardon me, pardon me... I'll never be the same It's the musical equivalent of "stop the world - I want to get off." Or... "I don't think I belong to this human race." And I'm pretty sure at least 50% of us have felt it these last few years... if not all along. Just know you're not alone. Hands in... fight for right, and make a new world. Never say die.

Pardon me while I burst Pardon me while I burst A decade ago, I never thought I would be. A twenty three on the verge of spontaneous combustion. Woe-is-me But I guess that it comes with the territory. An ominous landscape of never-ending calamity. I need you to hear. I need you to see. That I have had all I can take And exploding seems like a definite possibility To me So Pardon me while I burst into flames. I've had enough of the world, and its people's mindless games So Pardon me while I burn, and rise above the flame Pardon me, pardon me. I'll never be the same. Not, two days ago I was having a look in a book And I saw a picture of a guy fried up above his knees I said I can relate Cause lately I've been thinking of combustication as a welcomed vacation from. The burdens of the planet earth, like gravity, hypocrisy, and the perils of being in 3-D... And thinking so much differently. Pardon me while I burst into flames. I've had enough of the world, and it's people's mindless games Pardon me while I burn, and rise above the flame Pardon me, pardon me. I'll never be the same. Never be the same...yeah. Pardon me while I burst into flames. Pardon me, pardon me, pardon me. So pardon me while I burst into flames. I've had enough of the world, and it's people's mindless games So pardon me while I burn, and rise above the flame Pardon me, pardon me. I'll never be the same. Pardon me, never be the same. Yeah

Times are waaaayyy different. "I know everything" hits different when the kids of today, all they have to do is type in some quick searches. So to an extent, there is some truth to it... but trying to discipline my kid is like no more i.net. you want entertainment? Do what the older folks used to do. Listen to the radio, watch TV, go outside,,,, but also the radio: racial slur racial slur racial slur. Other things explicit. I know I heard curse words back then but was it always in ur face this much? Bc now I feel like I should go reminisce in those genres & maybe trigger something. I at least remember warning labels.🤷🏻‍♀️ I mean, at least its the weekend. I dont gotta do nada
