Most of Iranian slow moving drones were intercepted by the US, UK and Jordanian air forces even outside Isreal itself. But their cruise missiles did reach Isreal military bases and did some real damage. That's why the condemnation from the west, not laughing at Iranian retaliation.

Hmm. How did they pull off the rock concert massacre like to many questions and too much distraction.

After listening to many analysts I was struck that not one realized the significance of the layered attack i.e. the slow drones formed the first wave…which would be joined as they neared their targets by cruise missiles which in combination would strain the ability to the air defenses then be joined by extremely fast surface to surface missile at the last moment. What the Iranians didn’t realize goes to a layered defense in depth which had David’s Sling and Arrow interceptors engaging the fastest missiles far outside the territory of Israel.

This was a warning! Iran just wanted to respond and hit the military base from which their embassy was hit! They did it and announced they are standing down unless Israel attacks them again. In addition Iran and Iraq were at war and both sides suffered casualties. Iraqi’s used chemical warfare on Iran from which many Iranian soldiers and there immediate families were dying many years to come. Let’s not forget Iraq attacked Iran. In my mind the plan was for Iraq to attack Iran, occupy the oil rich region so in a future time the US would attack Iraq and get their hands on all of that oil. Axis of evil and all. I agree with Ware. I see the Consulate strike as a target of opportunity to remove two major terrorists, that Iran saw as a justification for escalation. One point that has not been made if that the attack has diverted international attention from Gaza where reportedly an assault on Rafah has begun. Another point, and I will take some issue with him, that the attack was somewhat restrained, concerns timing. Three waves were launched, drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles. Given the different speeds and flight times, I suggest that the waves were launched in such a way that all missiles arrived over Israel at the same time, hopefully overwhelming the defences. They certainly did not consider the involvement of Jordan and the other states. So, where to now? Israel has stated that no retaliation is intended at this time, but there's no doubt some form of action either directly at Tehran or increased action against the proxies will occur. However, despite the announcement, Iran will remain on high alert, causing fear and concern among the people. But, the cooler heads are right. Israel has come under major condemnation for the situation in Gaza; Iran has at least temporarily negated much of that as is evidenced by the international condemnation and statements of support. To strike back now may negate much of that, further weaken Netanyahu's position and further endanger any hostages still alive as Israel could be further condemned to further endangering peace across the Middle East as it would probably result in tit-for-tat actions that could get out of control. So for now? Festina lente and softly softly. Let diplomacy and talk do its part in the G7, UN and face to face. The concept of a 'NATO' style bloc there may be advantageous, especially if, along with enhanced sanctions, it further isolates Tehran; we could see a new Iraq scenario here. For 'down the track'? To borrow from War of the Worlds, "slowly and surely, we drew our plans against them".

Israel helped Hamas take over Gaza so they could split Gaza from the West Bank (Hamas then assassinated all the opposition). That is Netanyahu (who ordered the operation) is guilty in helping Hamas as much as anyone in Iran. Iran had no idea that Oct. 7th was happening on top of it all!
