Incredible Videos of JLTV: Shows Its Fantastic Ability
The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) is a United States military (specifically U.S. Army, USSOCOM, and U.S. Marine Corps) program to part-replace the Humvee with a family of more survivable vehicles with greater payload. The JLTV program was approved in 2006 to begin early studies.
The JLTV program incorporates lessons learned from the earlier and now halted Future Tactical Truck Systems (FTTS) program and other associated efforts. JLTV has evolved throughout various development phases and milestones but variants are capable of performing armament carrier, utility, command and control (shelter), ambulance, reconnaissance and a variety of other tactical and logistic support roles. JLTV complies with the US Army's Long Term Armor Strategy (LTAS). The JLTV program (including numbers required and pricing) evolved considerably as the program developed.
Oshkosh's L-ATV was selected as the winner of the JLTV program in August 2015 and awarded an initial production contract for up to 16,901 JLTVs. The U.S. Army approved the JLTV for full-rate production in June 2019.
The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), which first entered service in 1985, was developed during the Cold War when improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and asymmetric warfare were not a major factor for military planners. The HMMWVs demonstrated vulnerability to IEDs and the difficulties and costs experienced in satisfactorily up-armoring HMMWVs led to the development of a family of more survivable vehicles with greater payload and mobility. JLTV was originally reported as a one-for-one HMMWV replacement; however, US DOD officials now emphasize that JLTVs are not intended to replace all HMMWVs.
Here's The Specification Of JLTV.:
Armor:Classified (A-kit/B-kit configuration).
Main armament: Various light and medium caliber weapons, plus AGLs or ATGWs if required.
Engine: Gale Banks Engineering 866T, 6.6-liter diesel (based on GM Duramax architecture).
Transmission: Allison 2500SP six-speed automatic.
Suspension: Oshkosh TAK-4i independent suspension.
Operational range: 300 miles.
Speed Forward: 70 mph (110 km/h).
Reverse: 8 mph (13 km/h).
Steering system: Power-assisted, front axle.

Very nice. The cold hard reality is that the lack of foresight from defence acquisition at the Pentagon during the 1980s and ‘90s in adopting the Hummer cost a LOT of American lives in Iraq and Afghanistan between 2001 and 2007. The JTLV program is very much over due and will save a lot of lives in to the future.

@@Dog.soldier1950 Now mind you I am coming from a Route Clearance back ground. This thing as a scout vehicle sure. However from a survivability stand point in Afghanistan these things a worthless but looking at it from a "Sherman" tank perspective like WWII I get it. If I were allowed to show the catastrophic losses of grunts killed in these things. No way this replaces the MRAP on certain missions. Where the survivability is huge. Now again from a fast moving scout perspective I get it. Visibility inside these things are poor and that's from the drivers seat. Yes, I have driven one, I also been on ground after one of these took a hit from underneath 2 KIA, 2 WIA (critically). MRAP takes hit and can be put back together and Soldiers live to fight another day after 72 hr blast protocol. So I am sorry but in my professional experience this thing may have its uses. But if trained insurgents can dust this thing with fertilizer buckets I hate to see what a Near Peer could do.

I would like to see how much of a beating it could take. The video looks like a 90 year old grandma is driving, pedal to the metal test drive it.

@@thomasnelson7300 I'm not the one complaining about having to pay my Bills like you. I paid my student loans, My house, cars, retirement, 401k. So you want to try to claim You think I want to a trade school because I have personal responsibility to pay my Bill's therefore alluding that your dlcollege dept came from some expensive elite school which would be ironic that you had a degree from such a place and still can't even pay a student loan without crying about it. And why exactly should I have to pay for your college.. I paid mine, paying my kids. Why do you feel entitled to have everyone but you pay for your college? I'm Sorry that you take zero responsibility for providing for yourself but you are not my kid and therefore it is not my, or anyone else's responsibility to pay your Bill's. Grow up and at least try to act like a man
