Incredible Process: The Art of Knife Restoration - A 101-Year-Old Heirloom
Restoration and restore of a 100 year old rusty cleaver knifer. The knife was very badly rusted. It had many dents and scratches. My goal with this restoration project was not to overwork the surface of the knife. It was not an easy restoration project.

First thing I did was remove the old handle. Since the cleaver was very badly rusted, it was completely sandblasted. There was still rust in the pores of the surface that could not be removed with sandblasting. That's why I treated the cleaver with electrolysis. The scabbard had a lot of dents and quirks. That's why I sanded the entire sheath. The surface was finished with a steel brush. This made the surface shiny again. All edges of the knife were ground with an arrow and sandpaper. All surfaces have been polished to a high gloss. Finally, the cutting edge was ground. The first part of the project was finished. I used oak board for the wooden handle. I cut the oak board into small slices. I always put a small aluminum plate between the individual discs. It was all glued together afterwards. The knife handle was then ground and adjusted. Finally there was the wedding. The knife handle and the knife were glued together. The result is unique. The knife is very sharp. It's a lot of fun to cut with it. Rust is my blood 😅. The more rust an item has, the better it is for me. The knife had a lot of rust
Works well for being over 100! Good job!

The editing is as sharp as the blade! 😲👏👏👏
Your work on this restoration was a cut above the other channels (see what I did there?). That ending was especially appetizing, too. Now I'm hungry for a salad. 😁

@@MWRestoration I kind of like the look of the pitting. However if it's actually going back into service instead of just a display piece, I would be concerned about the ability to keep it sanitized and rust free with all those pits.
OMG thats so a good editing! :o

@MW Restoration you're using the Kärcher to power the sand blaster.. do you happen to know the blower's PSI rating? It's weird, I've done a web search including their site and I just can't seem to find it. I know the blaster needs something like 60-100 PSI.. Thanks! And great job!

Those cracks R worrisome, but if it's not compromised, cool.
What about the large cracks in the blade?? Should’ve welded them.
Using fillers on the pits on the rest of the blade and sanding will make it look brand new. Also the handle should be secured with rivets. I recommend watching the video on the my mechanics channel shows how he fixed the same kind of cleaver.

I made the knife look old. The pores of the knife are still visible. Just like the logo. It's quite normal that I have to clean the surface so that the knife can be used. Just as an info, the cutting edge has to be sharpened to get the knife sharp. Not every handle has to be attached with rivets. In addition, the original handle was not attached with rivets. So everything done right. my mechanics channel also once restored a knife, but he completely finished it. You couldn't tell at all that it was an old knife. Of course that's a matter of taste, but I think you should fix things and keep the old charm.

You've been watching too many episodes of Forged In Fire 😄 That particular epoxy will do just fine for this application; he's not going to be hacking boars apart with it or doing any antler tests. It's a beautiful piece that will last another 100 years.
Ranged Flava all the way
That was outstanding..a joy to watch with a great result 👍🏻
Great video dude 👍 and I like you trying new things on editing it was enjoyable and keep me more time in the video. Keep it up . Also I m wondering what's your camera set up ? I feel its one of Sony a6k series .

I am very pleased that you liked the video. Yes, I use a Sony alpha 6600. The lens I have is a TAMRON 11-20mm F/2.8. Otherwise, most of the settings are set to standard. In order to get an even nicer video look, I edit the video in Final Cut pro x.
