The attention to detail is outstanding, what a wonderful layout

Seen a lot of videos with nice layouts but this is really on another level. The detail and execution are absolutely incredible.

great to recognize the place, not just the bridge. The pub, the castle grounds. The reenactment looks great.

Absolutely first class, you must be very proud.

I am taking inspiration to the detail in such amazing layouts. I just finished the planning for my new layout, its been delayed for quite a while, due to family matters. At least I done the track diagrams etc on a small Mac application, got the baseboards ready for construction which my son will be helping with. Just need to go on holiday first. I hope to document it visually.

Back when this layout is set you didn't get litter all over the place. Look at old photos of this era and everywhere looks pristine compared with today.

By gum but that's bloody grand. The first time I arrived at Knaresborough was 1953 on a Sunday School outing from Farsley by steam train from Cookerage station. Whoever built this should be congratulated on a fine piece of, both engineering and art. Well Done. dave from Canada

What an absolutely gorgeous layout. I remember seeing it at Alexadra Palace some years ago. The town model is interesting, as are the sounds from the trains and locomotives.

I have been fortunate enough to see this bridge in real life, and it is a very impressive structure. While I was there I began to appreciate the bridge a lot more, In fact, I gained a broader understanding of the layout and I have enjoyed it a lot lot more because of it

You might be interested to know about the origins of the layou'ts title - "The World's End" - and why it is not known simply as "Knaresborough": "The World's End" obviously takes its name from the pub, which itself takes its name from one of the prophecies of a local seer - Mother Shipton - who lives in a cave nearby, and prophecied the end of the world, amongst other things. Whilst her prophecies of the defeat of the Spanish Armada; the Great Fire of London; iron ships; cars and aircraft did come true, her prophecy of the world ending in 1881 thankfully did not.

Fabulous craftsmanship. One nit to pick, though: why are the signals the wrong way round? Or does the line in reality 'drive on the right' for some reason but the trains shown were on the wrong side?

The track is Peco code 75 concrete sleeper track, but Peter Goss apparently increased the spacing between the sleepers (the US word is ties) to be accurate for British OO scale, i.e. 4mm to the foot. Peco manufacture it with the sleeper/tie spacing correct for HO, 3.5mm to the foot.

A stunning layout but did I detect a couple of trains driving on the right rather than on the left?

The real Knaresborough station has two passenger services - York to Burleigh Park and Leeds, and Knaresborough to Leeds - the latter trains reverse out onto the viaduct to get on to the correct line before returning to Leeds. This model is amazingly accurate - I visit Knaresborough for work occasionally and recognise the ally and the shops near the station.

why are trains running too slow

Nice scenery, but incorrect signalling and poor operational potential. Probably uses DCC which was designed by an Electrical Engineer who knew nothing about real railways. As a result DCC is fine for a home "Toy Train Set", but totally useless if you want to replicate real life train operations realistically. Why? Because DCC makes no provision for the real life interface between moving trains and the signalling system, which by default requires track circuits. DCC is also roughly 400% more in cost than any of the numerous types of "analogue" systems, and of course DCC locks you into its inflexible, rigid and unrealistic methods. The track circuits on my exhibition layouts cost from 1 - 5p each, because when you understand 12v DC layout electrical's, you only need a piece of wire for the track circuit ! The problem for model railways is the signalling, as it is impossible for any commercial company to provide more than one or two of the most basic types of signals. As a result for over 40 years I've had to scratchbuild nearly all the signalling on all my mainline exhibition layouts, which have included German, Japanese & British prototypes. Too many exhibition layouts in recent years, increasingly reveal a lack of research and understanding of the prototype, especially signalling, interlocking methods, the "Block" systems in use, and the basic laws of Physics relating too the metal wheel on the metal rail. Trains do not have differentials in their axles like cars !!! Which means that with every degree of curvature in the track the power available in the locomotive MUST be increased by the square root. In other words a Hornby Flying Scotsman for example, when forced to negotiate a radius 2 curve will only haul around 6 coaches before wheel slip begins, which also reduces the life expectantcy of the mechanism. But if run around 5ft radius curves happily hauls 12-13 coaches without stress, and the models mechanism will last years longer !!!! Large real life locos like Flying Scotsman or even Co-Co Diesels & Electrics won't normally negotiate less than 4.5 chains radius. That's 297ft. Or in OO scale 1180mm, around 5ft radius on the layout. So clip together track systems are out, unless you want to start destroying your large and expensive model locos from Day 1. The laws of Physics apply equally to the real train & the model !!!!

"Nice scenery" underrates this incredible layout, it's an absolute work of modelling art. Criticizing the use of DCC ignores that analogue is increasingly unsupported and manufacturers are increasingly pushing DCC for all but kids first train sets. That's not something within the control of enthusiasts they have to use what's available for purchase. Rightly or wrongly (and @JamesSmith-mv9fp clearly believes wrongly) analogue is dying out.
