Anoles are often overlooked, and especially the common green and brown anoles, both of which are amazing diurnal lizards with great personalities.

I use to see them so much in Florida. The green n brown ones. Then I got a community of them when I got back home. I think if more anoles like the ones in this video were seen n available more often in pet shops n other places then they would definitely be on more ppls radars!!! Bcuz this is the first time I've seen or heard of any of these!!!!

My first reptile was a green anole I named Larry 😂 They have a reputation for not being handleable, but I was determined to earn Larry's trust! It took time....I went slow, waited for Larry to "taste" that it was me, and he'd climb on my finger and chill. I was about 8 at the time, so this really fostered my patience with amimals. Larry (and anoles in general!) helped grow my love of reptiles and will always hold a special place in my heart!

Definitely one of the groups I'd look into if I ever have the space/finances to consider lizards again...that Dominican anole for some reason reminds me of leachie patterns. Haven't seen them in collections anywhere, but one of the best anoles I've ever seen in person were wild Antigua Bank anoles (leachii). They get BIG, and so many colors on adult males...the smaller blue species they live near is cool too (wattsi).

Six years ago I saw no anoles on Hawai’i (Big Island), now at our property (20 miles from Kailua Kona) we have hundreds of them. Adults 6-8” , green with red dewlap. See brown as well, but I believe they are same species. Amazing rate of spread! We also have several different geckos, some kind of skink, and Jacksons Chameleon. I don’t keep any as pets but at least two types of geckos like to come inside. The anoles prefer the water tank (sides and under edge of cover), the skinks are ground dwellers, and the Jackson’s prefer the trees. It’s like they’ve divided up the territories.

Oh Dāvey, I laughed at your “box of anoles” joke! SOME people just lack a sense of humor, that’s all. Amazing collection though! *Addendum;* I heard from a Florida Herpetologist that the invasive Brown Anoles from Cuba are indeed more aggressive than the native Green Anoles. According to him they’ve forced the Greens higher into the canopy to forage making them more susceptible to predation. They fear their population may be suffering as a result. I also saw a Brown and Green Anole mating in one video taken in FL by Jerry Wolfe, Kenan’s buddy... so there’s that.

I got one of my knight anoles, a female, to drink from a bowl by putting a bubbler in it. She came down to investigate, figured it out, and continued to use the bowl even after I took the bubbler out. Of course I continued to spray her, but it was very cute to watch her lap up the water and then tilt her head back so the water would go down her throat. The other anole, a male, was too dumb to notice the bubbler.

I agree with the home depot theory on how fast anoles can adapt to a certain extent, After all there are anoles that can breathe underwater (anolis aquaticus) and it was shown on a national geographic study of how even a 3rd generation can adapt and change if dropped off on a different island, i mean adapt in a matter of a generation or 2!! So is it possible to take for example a brown or green anole and put them into a massive paladarium chamber that would be mostly water and how fast they would learn to dive after small minnows and scuds etc,,, would it maybe a few generations before they would learn to breathe underwather? I dont think they will ever adapt to Minnesota winters!!!! There are some anoles the vermillian or correct me if Im wrong from madagascar that could swim!!! It was some yrs back but met a guy online selling them for 600 each on that reptile trader site!!!! forgot the name!!!

Not so much for some of the ones he's breeding, but I understand the reaction at the $600 price tag. Most of these aren't wild caught green or brown anoles. Most of those are species from other countries that almost no one else is working with and the price tag reflects the rarity and them being captive bred. You can't treat a new species of anole being introduced into the hobby like a $5 throw away lizard because of a different species that is native or invasive. With that said though the more people get into those species the more the price will drop as the population establishes into the hobby.

The terrarium "system" looks really cool, but the "decoration" is so poor... I would be completely ashamed of a terrarium looking like these... as well: anoles do really climb and jump a lot, these terrariums a really too small! you should visit their natural habitat... if you don't have the time to care for your reptiles in proper terrariums you shouldn't get so many of them.. =/
