I chose my LHD over the standard version for a few reasons. I liked the slightly aged look of the lume plots and loved the roulette wheel date. I also preferred the 'Pelagos' text in red as to the eye reduced the number of lines of text on the dial. I loved the titanium brushed case and that incredible clasp and believe it or not I chose this model over the BB58 some years ago although a BB58 would join the collection later. My LHD is arguably one of my most comfortable, readable and daily pick up watches in my collection. It's like those comfortable pair of shoes that aren't the best but are the regular wear. I love it. Love love love the Pelly LHD. Tons of personality.

I have the LHD myself and I love it. The red accent and the Roulette date work for me. The lume is fantastic as well. While I love the bracelet (no problems with the clasp for me), on rubber it’s great too. It’s my choice for Summer wear (on rubber, that is). The rubber strap uses the end links from the bracelet. I got mine second-hand from Bucherer in NYC. It was never worn and the deal was too good to pass up!

It's simply a great watch. Period. ❤

Love my LHD. Wears so comfortably. Clasp, bezel, crown, lume, performance, reserve.. Crown guards and h valve break up the slabs perfectly. 500m? Yep, that's why it's a bit thick. No flashy, just handsome.

The wearing experience of the Pelagos is fantastic. The size/weight/balance ratio is perfect and the clasp is very functional. I like all the models but the blue is my favorite. I enjoy the contrast of the technically focused diver with the fun Smurf like blue.

Yes, only LHD. Because crown is not digging into hand. The "norm" (usual crown on right side wearing the watch on left hand) is quite stupid and may be a sign for sheep behavior.

I learned something new! I didn't realize they had a lefty Pelagos.

Ive the proper Pelagos RH crown, its a great watch and I prefer it to either submariner Ive owned. I like the dial text it doesn't distract from showing the time.

I lusted over the LHD but just before purchasing one the FXD came out and sidetracked me ! However recently picked up an LHD and I love every aspect of this piece from the roulette wheel date to the personalization of a number piece on the rear of the case the list goes on & on for me. Just a phenomenal piece!

I totally agree. I got the call for the 39 and found it too small and tried the LHD at the same time and was the one for me . I didn't buy either because I found it too thick.... Though it doesn't feel it

That should be your summer watch. It fits.

I always admired the brutality of the Pelagos design. The only thing I would change is the case thickness. Hopefully it gets slimmed down a bit in future iterations. It’s got some dings and scars but looks all the better for it imo.

Super watch, I'm thinking of buying this one someday. Also, I don't want to be negative towards a Submariner, but the Palagos only has 4 characters more than the sub in the paragraph of text.

Funny you mention it. I wear my watches on the right hand (I’m left handed) and I can’t imagine putting the crown into my left hand. They got it backwards. All watches should be crown on the left and the “lefty” watches should be crown on the right.

Still talking about the amount of text on the pelagos, Rolex deep sea gets away with it without getting slated for it. Tudors also always gets criticism for being too thick, but there are too many to mention that are as thick, even thicker, but never gets mentioned, poor Tudor.

Unfortunately Tudor lacks in the fanboys department so of course the Deep Sea gets a pass.

to me this is the best pelagos roulette date wheel red dial print aged lume stands out from the rest , and is a super diver not a lite version like its 39 ml brother ( ok i sofa surf with my lhd 😂) great review on to me tudors masterpeice of a deep dive watch

Concern with grit, fine sand, etc, getting into that spring and giant clasp? Also, the big slab sides look too plain in person? Like the arch but few concerns here

Bruce in you opinion do you think the LHD is better than the right hand drive models..? I wear my watches on my left hand and DO like the starkness and sterility of the RHD model but I am drawn to the LHD too although I’m Not a fan of faux patina as a rule, but in some If your images the lume Looks almost white outside and not creamy?

If Tudor only made a collaboration with Citizen, releasing a version with eco drive solar quartz movement, and the Citizen scratch resistant titanium, it would be the ultimate dive watch. Although I prefer the stark white hour markers.

just picked one up. I have the Pelagos 39 (which I love) but always keep my lazy eye on this one. Too cool of a piece. I believe they'll likely stop making it in the next few years.

I sold all but one of my Rolex after buying this watch,I find it is worth twice or more what they ask for it. That’s why I bought the blue and the marine nationale also and still have monies left over. I looked at all three under macro must be that copy mine are clean , my Rolex however has some QC problems under macro but just as you mentioned that really is nitpicking!

Think its a shame that the lume indices can come off the bezel. Seen so many complaints about this online. I would have probably got one if it wasnt for this. I went for a bb s and g instead in 41mm and quite like the fact its quite chunky. I also have a tudor aeronaut GMT and thats also a 41mm but only 10.5mm thick. The aeronaut is class, and tudor should re release them .

Wish they would do what Sinn and Damasko has done. Using hardened Submarine steel for that extra durability. It fits the profile of the watch. A straight forward tool. The only reason im experimenting with those 2 brands right now, or else i would have gotten a Pelagos allready.

Agree, the U50 competes with this perfectly and what about the new T50, maybe even more so. My grail has been the Pelagos for years, but the U50 and Pelagoss 39 have almost certainly usurped this.

Just cruious, what's the benefit of extra durability?

I wish they made a LHD in the original eta model. That little bit thinner of a case really makes a difference. And I really love the LHD aesthetic. I also think the rubber strap that comes with it is very underrated.

@JC tudor cases tend to be slab sided also. The thinner case helps with that visual along with wearability

love this watch.. I ended up with the mn21 fxd just because it is different and much thinner but I would love to own the lhd as well. Best bracelet/clasp in the business…strong contender for your summer watch?

LHD is so cool. I don't understand the Pel 39, looks like Tudor got scared of releasing another BB58 variant and just changed it up a lil to use the Pelagos name.

The day they put a matte ceramic bezel on the black bay 39 is the day I'll buy a tudor. One can dream.

If I hadn’t gotten the call for the 39 I was going to pull the trigger on this one. The dial and markers have such presence. I don’t get the hate over the lines of text - they’re at the bottom. If there were more than 2 at the top, that would be offensive.

I have never had a problew with the amount of text, only that it is too close to the 6 o' clock marker and needs to be moved up just 1-2mm

i was so interested in the original pelagos, but after I tried it on, the way the chapter ring integrates with the dial looks cheap or an afterthought, IMHO

Always loved this watch and wanted one for quite a while. Difficult to get here in the UK. Went to my AD to collect my Tudor Panda Chrono and amazingly they had the LHD in stock. However, I was shocked on seeing how dark the indices were. Always looked a pale cream or off white on video. On this watch they were much darker like a pale coffee colour, which I didn't like at all. Wondered if Tudor have changed this shade of lume just recently!

Very interesting. #16955, I just saw one here in Tokyo at Tudor boutique that was around 15900-ish. Maybe this particular boutique was holding this one back for a while, and decided to let it be sold????? hmmmmmm......

This watch is an amazing value. You’d have a hard time justifying buying a Rolex sub over this one. Is this going to be your summer Watch, Bruce?

Sold my Pelagos 42 a year ago and I regret it! Going to rebuy it at the end of the year.

I like the features of the LHD in particular the roulette date wheel and red lettering. Would love to see the red text on the standard Pelagos

I owned one of them the blue one did not like the too much thickness and also the text and being looked at the cheaper Rolex option, also picks up numerous scratches being grade 2 titanium

The Pelagos is the class leading diver IMO. My only complaint (I've tried on all, including the LHD) the lack of any accent color and clasp is too fat. The LHD drive does have a splash of red, which i love, but the clasp is very thick, too think I think. The new BB41 with the 5-link bracelelt and T-Fit clasp address all my issues and I am #4 on the list with Horologio here in Vegas. Karan says Hi,

I just don’t get the clasp. It’s never a comfortable thing to have so much squeezing tension such that the spring is under flexing tension. And, furthermore, to have a visual calibration gauge engraved on the clasp, showing just how much extra squeezing you are being subjected to, is just preposterous. And having such primitive springs exposed is just going to collect dust, grime, and grit. In the end “the world’s best clasp” is a definite dealbreaker for me.

If you adjust the links properly this is Not a problem. You will not even realize the spring is there unless your wrist expands on a hot day, even then it's barely perceptible. Unless you've even tried one on, it is hard to appreciate how comfortable this band is.

Again, if you wear your watches loosey-goosey you would never experience wrist swell factor. I like to wear my watches with no play. Sometimes, on hot days, or while flying, I experience wrist swell. This can make the watch tight on the wrist. My wrist are not large nor small just under 8 inches. So I like steel or ti bands that offer micro adjust which I can do on the fly. However with the Pelagos, all that is moot. That's the point I was making, and again if you've never actually worn or even tried one on, then... Don't take my word though, practically everyone that's reviewed the Pelagos one of their big takeaways is inevitably bracelet comfort. BTW, nice review @Bruce Williams, as always your micro/macro camerawork is a sight to behold.

The first 3 adjustment points are traditional and result in no spring tension. Only when you’ve gone well beyond that would you feel any pressure. A well sized watch wouldn’t necessitate use of the spring, but if you did run out of traditional adjustments a little spring pressure would be be preferable to flesh pressing against an immovable bracelet.
