Really good video, Ive been taking commissions for the past like 6 years. Im a creature artist, so I got the furries on my side and with improving my skill level I went from 40-50€ for a full illustration to now up to 550€, which is quite frankly a great side income next to school. In my opinion the most difficult thing is to communicate effectively with the commissioner, especially when it comes to complex settings or characters. But its definitely worth is and since, nearly all of my commissioners at least, are private people. One does not have strict deadlines, pretty much all the work you do is very appreciated and you get to set your own terms of service. There is also sub categories of private commission work/freelancing next to your typical design work and illustrations! There are: -Adopts: selling predesigned characters -Ych: (your character here) people pay for you to put their character into a scenery you drew beforehand -Bases: You can make lines that other people can use/edit to fit their characters, especially customizable bases (where one can change out traits) can be sold for quite the price The thing that takes the longest here is gaining an audience that would realistically buy art in your price range. For me Instagram (~34k) brings in about 10% of my bigger commissions, but 80% of sketch commissions, while Furaffinity (a furry marketplace, I fot roughly 1200 followers there) bring in the rest. So one not only has to upload consistently and provide good content, but also find the right Plattform to publish! Here are some I have experiences in as a creature artist: -Instagram: people are interested in your art, but rarely buy anything for an amount past 60€ -Furaffinity: furry art only, but people spend a LOT of money there XD -Art station: unless you're really really good and got a premium account, there's no way to get buyers notice you -Deviant art: kinda dead, but there are still some people buying for small amounts -Toyhouse: (site to buy/sell/trade characters) Great, especially since you can repurpose old practice designs (mainly small amounts though) -Discord: depending on the groups you're in there can be dedicated commission advertisement or marketplace channels :D -Amino: mainly children, so nope (was great in my beginner days though! nowadays also really dead) -Twitter: no personal experience, but people say its great Hope this helped some of you and I wish you all good luck!

I didn't know there were so many options to make an income as an artist. I especially like the gumroad one. Amazing video by the way

Well good to see you opened my eyes to new fields. I’ve got a redbubble account, but I need to work on getting known first. As for the discord channel, I’m glad you finally went with it. Funny enough I pushed for it, but didn’t get on it as I had other issues to deal with in my life, but you’ll probably be seeing me more. Thanks again!

personally I've started illustrating children's books as a freelance side job. I've been extremely lucky, I got it without even looking for it and my client is really happy with my art and I have had no problem with payments. Sounds like a good idea to put those books on a portfolio or something like Fiverr to get more gigs like that. thanks for the tip!!

Love your content bro. I have some experience with crypto and NFTs and appreciate you talking about it at the end. I have to say though , the opportunities that Web3 is offering artists is next to none right now. I've barely drawn until a few months ago, have brought an Ipad and have released a few drawings ive done and sold over $1000 worth already. It is tricky being a crypto artist because it depends on how deep you immerse yourself into the culture.

Hi Austin! Thank you very much for the info.😊 It is similar to some of the things you have said even though is a different world altogether and you have to know how to make what developers need but, what about 2D art for video games? Video game assets seem to be a good product to sell. What do you think?🤔
