Super helpful!! Some concrete workers let themselves into our garage guest room without permission and misused our Incinolet, leaving a big mess on that burn pan’s cover tray just below the clamshell. Now we’re facing a digusting cleaning job. Fortunately we happen to have Sprayway glass cleaner on hand! Thanks for THAT tip!! Didn’t know about removing the push button, nor about the details of the inner workings. Have you seen the humorous “instructional video” on the Incinolet? The film, “Director’s Cut,” was shot by an art film producer, Tom Sachs, who has no relationship with Incinolet, and is a real stitch. Who knows why he chose Incinolet as a subject, but I’m glad he did. For some reason the whole concept of the Incinolet toilet ignites an ardent flame in my funny bone. When we set ours up in the garage guest room (because it has a solid concrete floor and no plumbing), I decorated the little guest “bathroom” with burn relief supplies-udder balm, aloe Vera burn-relief spray, gauze bandages, adhesive tape, etc., artfully arranged in a cute little basket (“in case you forget to stand up before ignition”)- and we keep the room lit with a nightlight made of a simulated-flame chandelier bulb that I mounted to the top of a fire extinguisher. We call it our “Incinolight.” Every guest gets a thorough orientation on to how to use the Incinolet. The simple instructions, which of course come printed on the paper liner holder, are illuminated with a motion-sensitive LED light facing them from a Scrabble tray. Despite all this, people can STILL tend to get things wrong, especially if they miss my “Incinolet orientation” spiel. So far I’ve resisted the temptation to set up a motion-sensitive recording of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire.” Thanks for a very helpful video on cleaning the Incinolet! Much appreciate it!

THIS is the video I was looking for! Inside view of the mechanism and operation. It's remarkably clean for 5 years of use. It's a shame the venting design couldn't use positive pressure before the incinerator rather than negative pressure after it, so that the motor and squirrel cage fan would never be directly exposed to the humidity, ash, and tars of the exhaust gasses. Someone else said it only uses the full 2 kW for the first 10 minutes or so and then cycles on and off to stay at high temperature for the rest of the 1.5 hours. So that's less than I imagined it might use but still probably around 2 kWh for every use. Really fascinating.

​@@TinyIndustrialJust my two cents I'm interested in getting one of these but the liner part kind of gets to me it's like an extra step before I do my business however I was thinking what would happen if someone were to use it without the liner and REPLACE the liner part with a non-stick anti flammable material (teflon) CAN YOU TRY IT?

That won't work... If you saw one of these in person, you would understand why.

I've never had a regular toilet that lasted 5 years without something like overflowing and stoppage from too much paper, grandchild toy, flush mechanism going bad, so 5 years is great. Thanks for this video. I see you can buy a template to make your liners.

I believe they have a 220V model and a 110V model. That is the main decision you need to make. I have the 110. The downside of that is that it runs a bit longer per 'flush'. The 220 would need a dedicated circuit/outlet to use, so it's a bit more complicated in the planning/setup phase.

Super helpful! I’m not mechanically inclined but you’ve Inspired me to do the deep clean. We bought ours used in our floating cabin on the lake. It’s probably eight or nine years old. If I’m bold I might video my experience doing this deep clean - being an active and adventurous 65-year-old grandma 🏄‍♂️🤣 Oh one question - you said your toilet seat did not survive. I want to make sure mine does survive - any tips on that?

Thanks! Glad you liked it and that it was helpful. In regard to the toilet seat, I think that it was just the aging of the plastic and the extreme cold temps in the winter (when I wasn't present in the house) that dried and deteriorated the plastic on the original toilet seat faster.

This guy must use his toilet about once a month. We have to clean our Incinolet at least every six months and it’s filthy.

I don't use it that often. It's not in a full time living situation. I get that if you were using it several times daily that the deep cleaning would be needed more often.

I had great success using an oven cleaner on the metal. Let it sit on the crud and then wipe it off. May need several applications, but it works great.

This is an excellent video. Thank you. I wonder if we can buy them in Australia? One thing i would have liked you to mention is the noise factor. Is there much? Thanks again and keep on doing videos.

Noise is noticeable, but not super annoying. No worse than a box fan or window unit air conditioner. Not sure if there is a dealer for these in AUS. Let me know if you find one. I'll let people know if I get more AUS requests. Thanks for the comment.

Hi, for me the noise is a factor. When we set up a garage guest room with an Incinolet, I hadn’t considered noise. I’m a light sleeper and it did bother me. I found myself choosing to use the great outdoors instead of the Incinolet for relief in the middle of the night. Guests have told me it doesn’t bother them a bit. It’s a whooshing noise, a soft roar from the blower. Some might consider it helpful “white noise” for sleeping. Now I wear noise canceling earbuds to bed anyway, I’m sure it wouldn’t bother me. Astute of you to ask.

The heating element is the top portion of the burn chamber, creating a kind of broiler thing in the burn chamber. That's pretty much maintenance free since it's self cleaning (the element...not the burn chamber...ash still needs to be removed occasionally.) Glad you enjoyed the tour of the insides of the Incinolet. Are you thinking of getting one?

Hello, I put an Incinolet together that was in pieces. When I had it restored, I noticed a gap at the bottom of the rear vent panel from the base plate. The gap was about 1". Is this normal? Or did I do something wrong? BTW, I used EZ-Off oven cleaner for cleanup and it works great. Let it soak on the crud for a while and then it will wipe off. Might need more than one application. Works great.

Wow even the inside stays so clean and maintenance-free after 5 years! One concern I have is the paper liner. It looks so thin and flimsy, would there be situations where the duty is so heavy or pee so wet that the liner just "crumbled" and made a mess on the steel trap door?

Since the paper liner is touching the stainless steel chute in all places, that doesn't really happen. It is a really clean solution overall. I was impressed how clean it was in the toilet itself as well.

I find that when a liner is heavy with liquid - putting some TP or used Kleenex on top before dropping it into the burn chamber helps with any potential splash as it drops.

I'm having issues with the foot pedal- it made it so that the toilet is stuck open- any recommendation? The toilet is in my grandpa's boat house on the ocean in WA so Im thinking I need to take it apart to see what ha corroded. ughhh if you have any recs I would appreciate it SO much!

If you take the toilet apart as I do in this video, your be able to see where all the hinge points are and where all the movement from the foot pedal translates into the 'flushing' action. With it apart, you'll see what needs to be cleaned and where some application of lubricant could/would make the toilet work better without getting stuck as you say. Wear gloves...I know it's not going to be that much fun. :)

My septic system failed and will cost 25,000 for new system, sand mound etc...I'm debating this one you have or Cinderella - (which is way more expensive)...do you recommend this one for 2 adults everyday use...do you use yours everyday I watched a video you done inside a large home so I am just asking lol...n do I need an electrician to hook it up? Thank you so much!

Yes, septic is so insanely expensive. This Incinolet solution, although potentially imperfect, still seem like a good alternative. You could use this for two adults for everyday use. If one of the adults is a male, something like a urinal to supplement the Incinolet would be great since it would greatly reduce overall usage. Hey, if it doesn't meet your needs you can always write a big check for a new septic system. Seems like it's worth a try to me to see if this alternative option works for you.

I have a 110V 15 yr old unit that receives daily use and regular maintenance and is installed in a rental unit. That it has survived renter that long is amazing. It really is a well designed machine that should last forever as long as they make the parts. I have had good luck with this smaller unit with 1 renter w/occasional guests. 2 full time renters gives this unit a pretty hard workout. I would step up to an upgraded model if possible.

I have an incinolet and I e had it for a year and yesterday I pressed the burn button and it ran for almost 3 hours .. I unplugged it to see if it would reset itself and plugged it back in after 5 min ..it was still running.. do you have any suggestions?? I guess I should start by taking it apart and seeing where the timer is. It’s been so low maintenance but idk what I’m gonna do or who I should call to fix this issue .beyond just unplugging it and plugging it in when I need to use it ..but that won’t work forever !! HELP!!! Any suggestions??

Hi there. Hmm. Not sure why that would happen. It could be that the timer has somehow failed and is now no longer shutting down the fan at the end of the cycle? I would reach out to the Incinolet folks in TX and see what they have to say. They may have run into this before. That would be the course of action that I would take.

I’ve been looking for a troubleshooting video on this product, but have found nothing. Nor sure if you’ve ever had any issues in the past with the heater not burning (I replaced my heater coil few months ago due to a broken coil).

I'd be happy to do a troubleshooting video, except the unit has never given me any problems. I know that Incinolet sells all the various spare parts you might need but short of fixing it yourself, there aren't a lot of options and sending the unit down to TX (if that's even an option) isn't super convenient. Maybe put the question of out to the broader group here on the comments? I see people chiming in randomly on various comments with thoughts and advice.

Yes, I have heard about the heater coils going bad at some point. DIdn't happen with mine.

No. I personally take my wizzes outside. People of the female gender tend to use it more often. You and use it and not flush...then use it again later and then flush. That works fine for wizzes. :)

Not sure, but there is a timer, and a thermostat control unit in this toilet and invariably as with any mechanical device something can fail, leading to it no longer running a proper burn cycle. I guess that's what I was getting at in the video.

What about the pellets?

Um. Liner covers 95%. It can/will likely be ok. You might want to go see a doctor if that condition persists.

It does cover most of it. Eventually any toilet needs to be cleaned, no? How's it any different than if you ass-grenade a regular flush toilet?

@@TinyIndustrial It's different in that a regular toilet has water and this does not. So flushing will clean off ass-grenade particals rather than the flaming toilet will need to be hand wiped.
