In the Sweet Bye and Bye, 2020, Norfolk Island

On the 8th of June every year, the Norfolk Island people celebrate their arrival from Pitcairn Island in 1856. This very special event is known as Bounty Day or Anniversary Day. As a proud people with our own language and customs, we joyously march from Kingston Pier to the cemetery, singing, laughing, and paying respects to our ancestors. The day culminates in a large community picnic. This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Bounty Day will be a more quiet affair, and many islanders were unable to make it home for the celebration. Also, many islanders live abroad, and can only dream wistfully of meeting friends and family at Kingston Pier and being part of the festivities. This community rendition of 'In the Sweet Bye and Bye', one of our beloved hymns, aims to forge a sense of togetherness, despite the isolation from home and the happenings of the world. Enjoy!

Thank you so much the great God's children of Norfolk. This song of faith, hope and Reunion of Christians was written and composed by Sanford Bennet in 1868 and people around the world have been singing this song again and again. The song is based on scripture John 14.2 " In my Father's House there are many rooms, if it were not so, I would have told you, I am going there to prepare a place for you " God bless you. K. Listening to this song makes me nostalgic for a life I never had, as I turn back to face the cold, bleak winter, deep in the industrial Northern hemisphere, for me such a life will never be more than a passing dream.

These old gospel songs being very seldom sung in church these days in place of louder rock type music has been a great loss to the church of Jesus Christ!
